“Wonderful private & low key hotel with great service & beauty”

First of all - if you have ANY problems with disabilities or moving up and down steps this is not the place for you - simply because there are MANY steps to get to everything - to the lobby, to the rooms, to the pool ect. and there is not an elevator.
If you do not have any problems you will be amazed by this wonderful hotel. It's like staying in a castle. We traveled with 2 other couples, 3 rooms total - all were facing the street - but were still amazing!!! large rooms, small kitchens with a fridge & coffee maker, large bathrooms, large balconies.
The lobby is beautiful and has a pool table for public use. The pool is GREAT - beautiful landscaping, friendly staff. We were all inclusive and found it to be quite worthwhile with no problems getting drinks, food etc. We all visited the sister property 2 doors down - this is more modern and with that were crowds, loudness etc. An ok change for a few hours, but we found ourselves back at "our" hotel enjoying the serenity. The building is older - but well kept. Plenty of hot water for showers, plenty of towels, pillows etc. The staff was very accomodating. I would stay here again in a heart beat - am sad that we only had a one night stop before leaving in the morning - its a great property if you don't mind a few steps.

“"The Old Cancun"”

Avalon Baccara Cancun

4 of 5 stars
Madison, WI
Mar 11, 2008

I booked a night at the Avalon Baccara because we were finishing up a long tour around Yucatan and were flying out of Cancun the next day. After driving past a number of sprawling, new monster hotels from the south, I was pleasantly surprised to arrive at Avalon Baccara on km 11 of the Zona Hoteleria. It had a lot of character, and we were given a huge suite with a living room, kitchen, hot tub, bed and bath. The hotel is showing its age a little, but the room was clean, attractive, and the feel of place is pleasant, relaxed and fun. I usually shy away from "resort" type hotels, so this was perfect for me. THe pool was nice (swim-up bar) and the view of the sea was fantastic. Beach access isn't easy from this hotel, but I was coming off ten days of blowing sand at southern beaches -- the view without grit in the air was a refreshing and welcome change! Generally, the crowd was either pretty old or with kids, so if you're looking for a great singles scene I'd go someplace else. Unfortunately, I didn't try the restaurant. The menu looked good and the prices seemed reasonable.

“Baccara alright with us”

Avalon Baccara Cancun

3 of 5 stars
Denver, CO
Mar 1, 2008

We arrived at the crack of dawn and were able to check in immediately which was great. Rooms were just fine. Nothing fancy but we didn't expect them to be. The bathroom was almost like a separate room it was so huge! No romantic view either but we didn't go to Cancun to sit, staring out of our hotel window.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The greatest thing about Baccara is that it's only a few hotels down from their larger, fancier hotel in the chain, the Avalon Gran Cancun. The breakfast buffet was AWESOME, service was great and as long as you are wearing the wristband you get at Baccara when you check in, you are free to use all their facilities (pool, towels, charge food/drinks to your room).

Compared to some of the other hotels (monstrosities) we saw along the strip, we much preferred the smaller, more personal touch at the Avalon hotels.

“Great Romantic Getaway”

Avalon Baccara Cancun

Feb 24, 2008

We researched online many many resorts to stay at in cancun for our honeymoon and decided on the Avalon Baccara because it looked like it would be romantic. We were not disappointed. We loved the place. The first night we were there our room had problems with air conditioning and the staff was right on top of it and moved us the next morning to a room with an ocean view. We loved the hottub on the balcony and spent lots of time there. the pool was another favorite place to hang out. Any problem we had come up was fixed within minutes. We always had hot water and good water pressure and no plumbing problems. The beds arent the softest things but not uncomfortable. The rooms were spacious and clean and the staff were very friendly and accomadating. The food at breakfast was very good and the food we had at the resturant was excellent with excellent service. After a week there we felt as if the staff was part of our family with the way we were treated. Yes we had to go up a few flight of stairs but it wasnt bad you got used to it. If you love a taste of authentic mexican decor and want a quiet romantic place to stay I would definately stay here. We had the best honeymoon and plan to visit again sometime and book our stay at the baccara.

“Hated it - Don't go !!!”

Avalon Baccara Cancun

1 of 5 stars
Ottawa, Canada

This place isn't even a * !!! I spent 1 night at this hotel before leaving Mexico, and I don't remember ever paying for a hotel room and being treated like crap. I hated this hotel. It is old and tired and the staff were just downright rude. The room was small, cramped and icky -- the window curtains didn't even cover the window, letting light in at the crack of dawn. We were not allowed to sit at a dining room table in the evening for a drink - they had dreams of the place being full, I think. There was nobody in the dining room and we were told that we definitely could not have a table, so we turned around and walked out. Who needs that ??!! The mattress in the room was as hard as a rock. The only window that opened happen to overlook (overhear) another room's hottub. A drink at the poolside bar was a waste of money.
The waiter in the breakfast room was very helpful and pleasant.
Overall, I would prefer to sleep in my car than stay at this place. I pass through Cancun frequently and will NEVER go near this place again.
