Aquamarina Beach Hotel

We paid £750 each for 2 weeks all inclusive which wasnt bad, a winter sun deal - the weather was excellent for the full 2 weeks. 80+ degrees everyday.

Rooms were nice but basic, there is a door leading to nextdoor in the room which is rather thin, you can hear everything nextdoor!!!

Maids were good but a pain in the [--]. they always came late afternoon when you wanted a siesta! Our maid always came about 430pm which i thought were too late. Even if you put the do not disturb sign on the door, they still knock on and wake you up.
I complained to the rep about this, but only made things worse. Every single morning from then on after the maid woke us up by banging on the door at 830am, when i answered she kept saying reporté reporteé what ever that mean, and then walked off - but she still didnt clean the room till late. if you left them a tip they would fold the towels into different shapes, like a swan - which is nice.

the food is ok - could be better, always the same things and undercooked, however at night, you could pay a small fee and eat in the quieter poolside restaraunt and you could enjoy things like lobster and steak and it is much nicer.

the staff are excellent, the barmen Jorge, Asterio and co. Who got tto know what you drank and they would make sure you never had an empty glass. The entertainment team are excellent, chicken and maria inparticular who are wild!! they put on activities all day such as beach football, beach volleyball, water polo, mini golf, table tennis etc!

there are many nationalities that come to this hotel, in our hotel i spoke to canadians, americans, norweigans, polish, mexicans! so a good mix of people really, which makes it more interesting!

the hotel is situated right on the beach, which unfortunately has 2 jetties within very close proximity (about 10 metres), so is full of jet skis and an awful lot of seaweed!!! the hotel is situated quite far from the centre, although the buses are very regular and cost a mere 20p which solves that problem.

the front of the hotel is located on a duel carriageway, which is manic, although there are pedestrian crossings, it is not law for the cars to stop! so sometimes it is like playing chicken crossing the road!

they have a lot of themed nights where by they would put on traditional mexican shows, so that means mexican food for tea which is enjoyable!

they have a little flea market which comes to the hotel, but the sellers are too keen for a sale and you can haggle them down by about 75% of the price.

there is something on everyday and something to please all, i would not really recommend this hotel for children though!

There is so much to do in cancun, it is an excellent place. the hotel itself has excellent staff, but i would pay slightly more and go for a better hotel, even though we had the time of our lives there!!!

BEWARE THE MEXICANS ARE MAD FOR TIP! EVERYTHING YOU DO HAS TO HAVE TIP, IT GETS QUITE ANNOYING.

TIP HAGGLE THE PRICE ON EVERYTHING, YOU GET THINGS MUCH MUCH CHEAPER!

“Timeshare nightmare!”

Aquamarina Beach Hotel

1 of 5 stars
Seattle

Like a fool, we went through a time share presentation in
Seattle and were given a "free" hotel stay in Cancun, at the Aquamarina Hotel. When we got there, fairly late at night and very tired, we were immediately told that we had one hour and would then need to meet our "agent", Monica. Monica is nothing short of a crook, as far as we're concerned.
We were then told that in order to receive our $100.00 deposit back, we'd have to go to a timeshare presentation in Cancun. We explained to her, and showed her written proof , that we had already gone to one but her response was that we "left out the page" where it claimed we'd have to attend another presentation!
So, on our very first day in Cancun, we were off to a three hour presentation!
We then attempted to change hotels due to numerous problems- beach which was full of seaweed, bug bites all over, etc.- and ran into even more financial problems. By the time we were done dealing with Monica, we were out $600.00 and had wasted 1/2 of our trip.
Please, if this happens to you, give up the $100.00 deposit- it isn't worth the time or money! I'm hoping to find an attorney who will help us-

“Pay extra to get a better hotel!!!”

Aquamarina Beach Hotel

May 21, 2008

We just got back from the Aquamarina Beach Hotel on the 20th may after staying there for 2weeks with my wife and 11 year old son. At first sights the hotel is lovely. But never judge a book by its cover!!! The food was the same everyday (chicken, beef and fish) was bland and salty. There was always a selection of salad but very limited and again always the same. There is a place to get snacks by the pool and they serve pizza, hotdogs, burgers and nachos if thats what you want to eat everyday when in mexico. We ate out almost every night downtown in some of the more popular resteraunts ie Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood and its not that expensive either.

The Rooms are very basic and yyou can hear every single noise from the room next door as there is an ajoining door between the rooms which is paper thin and every tim the tv is on or someone sneezes you can hear EVERYTHING!! The maid came to clean the room everyday AFTER lunchtime so if you felt like an afternoon shower to cool down you have to call reception to get towels sent to the room which we had to do on several occasions over the two weeks.

There are 3 bars here, 1 swimup bar at the pool, 1 bar inside and 1 bar beside the beach all 3 are good and if you get to know the barmen you can get served quite quickly, look out for Jose Louis, he is by far the best barman there and is really funny. The bar situated inside closes around 10 - 11pm and after that there is no where else you can have a drink in the hotel.

The Entertainment team ar pretty good although the shows on a night time are pretty bad to be honest but all the daytime activities are fun even though they are the same EVERY DAY!! Look out for Maria, she is one of the girls on the entertainment team and is always full of beans!!

I wouldnt stay at this hotel again, they say its a 3 star but i think its more like a 1 and a half to 2 star. Its not great for children as the hotel is sponsored by all the local nightclubs and all they want you to do is to go out at nights clubbing, hence no good if you have kids. I would certainly return to Cancun for another holiday with my family but not to this hotel!!

“Loved it, very relaxing!”

Aquamarina Beach Hotel

I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, but it was beautiful. The room was fantastic, very nice size and very romantic. The food was good for the cost and the entertainment each night and afternoon was a lot of fun. The bartenders are very nice and it was a great vacation. We really enjoyed ourselves. It is very easy to get around and to get downtown and to the other sites in Cancun by the city bus, that you can catch right out front of the hotel.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — The room and the view from the room, very beautiful and romantic not to mention relaxing!
    • Disliked — The food, I am not really into spicy, exotic food and I don't like fish, onions and peppers, so it was not my favorite part, but there was always something that I could eat each meal.

“Hated the Aquamarina Beach”

Aquamarina Beach Hotel

My husband and I had booked the Aquamarina for 8 days to celebrate our 30th wedding Anniversary. Well, needless to say the celebration was not to happy. We had ants crawling all over the place, we were supposed to have a King size bed we had 2 double. We requested no smoking, we received smoking. The brochure states that it is a oceanfront resort. Well, if you call dirty water and boats parked on the sand, then I guess then that's your oceanfront.

I would not recommend this place to my worst enemies.
