My friend and I planned a girls' trip to the Golden Crown arriving May 17 and leaving May 24. It was one of the best trips I have ever been on. Thanks to this website we knew to keep away from the taxi drivers trying to convince us to ride with them as we were leaving the airport. We met a couple of guys who ended up paying $35 for a cab ride from the airport to the Golden Crown, when a shuttle is free and included in your stay.

The front desk staff were fabulous. We especially took a liking to Zeus who helped us out whenever we needed anything, and Manuel was great and very helpful too. There was no wait when we arrived at the hotel, and check in was very quick. We were immediately helped up to our room so that we could get settled.

The restaurants were wonderful. We never made it to Los Gallos, the authentic Mexican restaurant, however we visited all the others at least once. The Japanese restaurant was our only disappointment. Although the appetizers were great, the main course was dry and tough. We also ordered room service almost every night, usually quite late, and they were always quick and pleasant in bringing us whatever we had ordered.

The pool is heated and is great to float around in. We found that we met many other travellers when we were lying around the pool, and it seemed that everyone was exceptionally friendly. The beach was strewn with vendors, but this is to be expected in Puerto Vallarta and if you can ignore them it shouldn't really dampen your experience. The ocean was warm and inviting, although not clear and blue as one might expect. There are always activities going on. Every evening a man brings his horses to the beach so that you can rent them and go for a ride along the sand, and during the afternoons there is parasailing and banana boating (all at extra costs of course). The hotels offer alot of activities as well, ranging from tennis to aquasize to sea kayaking. If you're up early enough you can enjoy all of these...we weren't. But in the afternoons they usually have a game of water volleyball organized which is alot of fun.

The nightlife in Puerto Vallarta is great! My friend and I are both 26 and we had a great time! Christine is an upscale club located only two blocks from the Golden Crown. We walked there but looking back we would take a cab next time. It's not the safest area for two girls to be walking on their own. The best night for Christine is Thursday. Collage is toward the airport and has a foam party every Tuesday. It was our first time being at one and it was FUN, if not a little interesting at times. Downtown Puerto Vallarta is only a $5 cab ride, although the drivers will try to take you for more than that. It always seems to be busy, regardless of the day, but there are several good hotspots along the boardwalk, especially Hilo if you can get a table right in the window. It's perfect.

The Golden Crown is versatile, we met older couples there who loved it, and then younger people like ourselves who also thought it was fantastic. It has something for everyone. If you a book a stay here, you won't be disappointed.

“A golden time in paradise”

Golden Crown Paradise Resort Puerto Vallarta

Barb has been after me to get our review in so here goes and sorry for being late. We spent 2 glorious weeks at the GCP from April 19 to May 3. It was our 11th time there since 2003 and the 20th time to PV with the first being about 20 years ago.
When we arrived we were greeted by Manual with a welcome home as we exited the cab. This was repeated by the front desk and then Ricardo came out and said "Robert and Barbara, it is good to have you home again". After a welcome drink, a cool towel and a quick check in, it was off to our room. After a quick unpacking, it was down for lunch and then off to the pool. Soon it was 4:30 and i was playing tequilla volleyball and after only being on the property for 3 hours, it was like we never left.
Room: we had our usual ocean front junior suite on the 6th flloor with a indoor jacuzzi which we used almost every day in the late afternoon before showering and dressing for dinner. The weather was fantastic and we slept each night with the patio door open listening to the waves. Our room was always cleaned promptly and many nights had turn down service where we got extra towels and water.
Food: we rotated breakfast with about 1/2 at Bella Vista (eggs, pancakes, french toas, eggs benedict, bagel or Zucaritas (frosted flakes). The other times were Breeze for waffles (excellent) or the buffet next door for an omelete or chilaquilies. We even tried the buffet at the Japanese were the service was quick and the kids were few. No matter were we ate, Barb usually started with a yogurt as did I several times and I always had a fruit plate.
Lunch was usually at Bella Vista and would start with gaucamole and botana (chips and salsa and beans). Salads (especially the Caesers) were very good. I generally had some fish and Barb varied her taste. At the Breeze we had grilled mahi mahi and I would wlk over to the Crown snack bar and bring back fries and onion rings. Los Gallos was a more formal lunch (don't wear a damp swim suit as the chairs inside has cloth cushions) and the tacos, pizza or burger at the snack bar for a quick bite. We also tried the buffet next door a couple times and had ice cream soft serve cones from their snack bar many times.
Dinner: we ate at Paradise (Thursday is sea food night) the most (because of Poly) and ate at Salavadors and all 3 restaurants next door. Although there was the rare "off item" (which was promptly taken care of) we never had a bad meal and most nights left feeling like we had eaten too much.
Pool: The longer we were there, the less crowded it became. There was never a problem with chairs. The quickest spots to go were the shaded cabanas and the shaded row next to the pool bar. We liked the sun across from the pool bar and we could be found there from morning til late afternoon. The activities were a little less than in the past but there was always water aerobics at noon, sun dance at 4 and tequilla volleyball at 4:30. Janet or Pablo were always there except for a rare day off when one of the staff next door would fill in for an hour. I usually would set up the net for volleyball each day. There was also beach or regular water volleyball most days with bingo a few times too. They never could get enough players for water polo or basketball. The morning we left, there were only 8 people and/or towels by the entire pool at 10 am.
Drinks: always ask for your liquor by brand name. Barb started each day with Absolute bloody marys and I had dirty monkeys. It was worth walking up to the Pub Bar as Margarito made the best dirty monkey. Miriam works very hard at the pool and our cups were never empty. She always had a smile and would often dance when a good song was played. Margaritas and Cazadores Polomas in the afternoon. Even Barb started to drink palomas and got to really like them. Sometimes we would have a different drink with people we met. Before going to dinner (we generally ate at 8:30) we had a drink at the Breeze to watch the sunset and I even had sushi a few times. Before going up to bed, I had a poloma(s) and Barb would order Bialeys on the rocks at the Breeze. It wasn't Baileys but Barb said it tasted the same.
We attended a few of the shows. For those repeaters, Dany is dancing in the shows but is not working there only doing to help out. We spent one evening with Janet after the show, talking about Noe an all having tears in our eyes.
We brought some gifts for several special friends. A tie for Poly and a cap "#1 party guy" for Pablo. We also gave a beach Barbie doll to Rachaels daughter Sofia.
We met many other repeaters and also made sevral new friends a few who recognized my name from TA. Service was excellent and tips were generously and gladly passed out.
We had an excellent time renewing old frienships and making new ones. We are now in the process of contacting people to start planning our return in October.

“Just as good as last time!!!”

Golden Crown Paradise Resort Puerto Vallarta

Jun 2, 2008
7/10 found this review helpful

My wife and I just returned from our second stay at the Golden Crown. It was just as good as our first time there, which was awesome! We went the same week last year and noticed several couples that were there last year. That's always a good sign. We were greeted by Francisco, who was our great and very informative bellman last time. Within a minute or two we had cool towels and fruity drinks for our quick check in. We had a great start with our plane landing 30 minutes early and then the quick check in. We had requested the same room we had last time, but they went a step further and gave us a Penthouse suite.
It was good to see most of the same staff, except Aldo went on vacation on our second day. We had great service everywhere we went. We find it crazy that most guests don't venture next door to the Crown Paradise. The French restuarant is still awesome. We tried the Japonese place, which was also great. Good sushi, not the fake stuff like at the Breeze bar. The Los Gallos restuarant was really good too, no reservations needed. Getting chairs was no problem. For my wife's birthday they bought chocolate strawberry's, cake, and a bottle of champagne.
We don't know how anyone could not like this place. Always something good to eat and Drink. We have no complaints.
We have been to at least 20 All-Inclusive resorts, and this is one of our favorites. We will be going back very soon!

“Excellent Vacation at the GCP Again!”

Golden Crown Paradise Resort Puerto Vallarta

4 of 5 stars
Dallas, Texas
May 31, 2008
8/10 found this review helpful

My husband and I returned to the GCP for the 4th time for a week of heaven. We enjoyed our vacation from check in at the front desk on May 23rd to check out on May 30th. The front desk staff are friendly and efficient. This is not always the case at other resorts in Mexico and we have been to quite a few. Once again the service was excellent and the food was good all over the resort. The property was very clean and well maintained which brings me to the only negative point. The Paradise Restaurant, our favorite, was under construction during our visit. The jack hammers and drilling were a constant during the week days. Sometimes I like to sleep a little later in the morning and that was impossible and so were the afternoon naps. I wish we had been informed prior to our trip and we would have changed our dates. Now back to the 98% positive.

Once again, the food was very good. We had many choices because every restaurant changes their menu every couple of days. We liked the new Los Gallos restaurant and not having to make a reservation. Salvador's food and service was excellent. I had the beef tenderloin one night and the rack of lamb another. They were both top of the line. The salmon was great.

We like the pork tacos and hamburgers by the pool. The Bellavista has a good menu and we like the guacamole and chips. Room service had many options and the service was always pleasant and timely. All three bars and the pool waiter service was friendly and timely. The bar tenders are always ready to help with a suggestion of a special drink. They were ready with our refills before we finished our drinks.

Our room was always cleaned shortly after we left in the morning and turned down every night after we went to dinner. Off course, not on the two nights we chose room service for dinner because we were too lazy to go down stairs. We always had plenty of cleans towels and water. They even brought us an extra blanket we requested. We had on small maintenance issue and they were in our room in less than four minutes and took care of the problem.

The staff was very friendly and gracious everywhere on the resort. Yes, we tip, but it did not seem to effect the level of service. We received excellent service whether we did or not. We tip because we appreciate how well we were treated by all staff members.

I try to speak a little Spanish when I am in Mexico and they always complemented my efforts instead of making fun of it. They always made time for conversation and making us feel special. I would name some of the excellent staff members but I'm afraid I would leave too many out. The list is very long. We were treated great by everyone.

I have to laugh when I read reviews from people complaining that it is not a five star resort. No where do they claim to be, and they are not priced anywhere near a five star property. The cost was one third of a 5 star for us. We think the staff, service, food and drinks are top notch for the price. We enjoy visiting with some of the guests and have made life long friends in the past. We enjoy not having kids around the resort. We can't wait to return for our 5th time next year.

Thank you GCP.

“great place no kids”

Golden Crown Paradise Resort Puerto Vallarta

4 of 5 stars

We loved our stay at the Golden Crown. Golden Crown caters to younger travelers who leave the kids at home. Definitely not the senior citizen crowd.

Rooms: nice sized rooms much like the one bedroom apartment I lived in college. All rooms have balconies with a view of the ocean and pool.

Food: All restaurants are a la carte, no buffet in sight. Pool side tacos, burgers and pizza for lunch. The food at Salvadors was great. We had no problem getting reservations for the evening. Make sure you get the "Sexy Coffee" after dinner. The presentation is impressive and the coffee delicious. Also, take advantage of the morning breakfast room service the Golden offers - very convenient and delivered on time. Also for Sushi eaters, the Breeze Bar has sushi after 6 p.m. that you can help yourself to.

Drinks: Its all inclusive, need I say more. The Golden serves Sol and Indio beer. Indio is only available in Mexico and can't be found at all the Mexican resorts.

Activities: pool volley ball, beach volley ball and pool aerobics are all part of the fun of staying at an all inclusive and enjoying your stay. Take advantage of the Spa. I got a great massage there.

Tipping: Its all inclusive so its really up to you. I always tip the pool and restaurant waiters. Its my way of saying thanks for taking care of me.

I have stayed at other all inclusive hotels which I felt came up a little short in the level of service. However, the Golden did not disappoint and I will definitely go back.
