“Wonderful April Getaway”

Playa Conchas Chinas

4 of 5 stars
Santa Cruz, California
Apr 23, 2008

We spent 5 nights in a "two room suite" (309, 310 -- two rooms with a door connecting their porches) which worked out to $155 USD/night. I consider this price a bargain since you are right on/above the ocean and can leave the doors open all the time to listen to the sea and birds. This same kind of thing on Maui would be $300-$500/night easy. Mid-April weather was very nice, not too hot or humid and no big crowds.

Most of the other reviews have hit the high points. This is a great little place to stay. Super friendly, helpful staff; excellent location and just a little bit of Mexican "funk" to set a relaxed tone. (If you want an American-style "cruise ship" kind of bubble, try one of the big hotels on the North end of the bay, or Dreams, just down the highway from Playa Conchas Chinas.)

The hotel IS on the beach, the third floor we stayed on is below road level. The hotel is built on the hillside and rambles down it. No elevators, but this wasn't a problem.

Yes, the beach is rocky, but that didn't stop my daughter from playing in the waves for hours while Dad (me) drank a few beers on the beach under the palapa. We did have loud music on Saturday night from the (above, expensive) El Set restaurant until about 11 PM. The beach club restaurant (below) is reasonable with good food, amazing view and very friendly staff.

Hot water seemed to take a while to get to the room at times, but once rolling everything worked well.

The pool was plenty warm for us, maybe 80 degrees. If it is unheated all I can figure is that it is heating up as Summer approaches. We liked it for a quick dip after being out all day. It is lightly used and not as much hassle as going down to the beach.

It is now 6 pesos to get to town (Romantic Zone) by bus and only takes a few minutes. A taxi runs 50 pesos. Airport to PCC is 200 pesos or less -- don't pay more.

I posted some pictures of the front of the hotel -- don't let the street view fool you. Once inside, it is a little bit of paradise, and the sadder front elevation keeps the riff-raff away! :-)

“Great resort! Great location!”

Playa Conchas Chinas

5 of 5 stars
Kansas City
Mar 21, 2008

We loved our 9 days at hotel playa conchas chinas. The location was great, out of the way yet a 5 min. 5 peso bus ride from the romantic zone. We booked online with vallarta.com which was about $30 cheaper per night then expedia and on arrival found that the suite with hot tub on the balcony that we had payed for was not available. The lesser suite they gave us was so great that we didn't care much and when Salvador, the very friendly and helpful manager, refunded the difference in price between the two suites in cash we were very pleased. We became even more pleased when other guests staying in the jacuzzi suites told us that they were useless. The balcony overlooking the ocean was great and we allways left the french doors open. All the suites have oceanview balconys. We also had a small kitchen setup which we used quite a bit. In fact there is a fisherman that keeps a small kayak on the beach fronting the hotel and sells his catch to guests of the hotel and timeshare nextdoor. One afternoon we bought part of his lobster catch that was so fresh that some were still alive. The place was clean, the staff attentive and we couldn't have asked for much more, a heated pool maybe. We would stay there again except that since coming home we decided we loved the place so much that we bought a timeshare online nextdoor at lindo mar which shares the beachfront restaurant with the hotel playa conchas chinas

“A Very Wonderful Experience”

My Wife and I stayed 4 nights in this hotel in March of 2007. We plan on returning this March for a longer stay.
The location is great, away from the crowded area of P. V., but only a 5 min. taxi ride ($2-$4) to the center of town. The airport is about 20 min. away.. A superior resturant just steps from our room, low prices, easy beach access. The rooms them self, could use some renovation, but the views from your balcony make up for the older furnishings, and any leaky faucets. The pool is small and seldom used, but the snorkling was good in the tide pools, and in the deeper water on the hotel's beach. Lots of great sights and adventures in town. Chico's Dive shop has several exciting boat trips.. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Salvadore is a real sweet heart. We have never stayed in such a relaxing and quiet place, and sure hope that it hasn't changed since our last visit..

Truly a gem of a place! From the friendly greetings and service to the setting and views, this was a wonderful spot to have a family reunion. Small beach yet very comfortable for kids of all ages. Two larger beaches just a short walk along water's edge. Two great restaurants right on sight! Easy to get downtown yet away from the hustle and noise. We will go back to Hotel Conchas Chinas again!

“Adorable and well-priced”

I was with a group of people in town for a wedding- the staff was very accomodating about switching the groom's room when the music from the bar got to be too much for him the night before the wedding. My room was very clean and full of cute details- it also had a larger than average balcony. The multi-level hotel is on the side of a cliff and there isn't an elevator, so if you can't handle stairs, then this is not the hotel for you.
