“Second stay not as good”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

3 of 5 stars
olympia, wa
Apr 16, 2008

This was our second visit at Fiesta Americana. Last year we stayed on the top ninth floor-- more expensive, but nicer accomodations. This year we stayed on the seventh floor. We had no problem checking in, but when we asked for a hide-a-bed for our child, we were told FA don't stock rollaways. Funny, because last year they produced one in a flash.

Apparent convention or business guests pretty well took over the patio and beach area on Friday and Saturday night. We actually felt like intruders when we walked to the beach to watch the sun set. And then there were the service people pulling noisy carts loaded with empty food trays across patio tiles into the late hours.

We got an announcement shoved under the door at the begining of the week that there would be some construction work going on for three nights. From midnight until about 6AM we listened to front loaders hauling sand to the beach. Not a quality experience, but they got the work done before guests arrived for the weekend.

I will complement FA on one thing: lounge chairs are always available-- the towel birds can't cover them all. We never ate regular meals at the resort-- too many good places available in town. Walk across the street to the super mart to get your water and incidentals. The farmers were apparently burning the underbrush on the mountians, so there was a smoky haze late in the evening that cleared up by morning.

“Great value in Vallarta”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

Apr 13, 2008

My husband stayed at the Fiesta Americana for a week post-spring break. The hotel was lovely, quiet, had its own beach, a great pool, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The lobby is a show-stopper itself. The room was clean, the housekeeping was top-notch. Now the not-so-good: we were never able to connect to the internet. The beds were as hard as granite slabs. The food at the hotel was blech and overpriced. That being said, we'll come better prepared next time. I would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay again if the price was right. As part of our package, we paid approx $100 a night.

“Poor Club Level Experience”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

Apr 2, 2008

We just returned from our second stay at the hotel, both times booking a "Club" room. This room is on the 9th floor, and provides light BF, afternoon snacks and evening wine and light appetizers. This is obviously an added expense, not a courtesy the hotel provides. We were extremely disappointed in the level of service this stay. Every morning it ran like this: out of coffee, then cups, plates, bowls, spoons etc. It varied by morning and by time, but you could expect it was not going to be managed well. Why would you put 2 bowls out for cereal, with 30 rooms on the floor? One morning there was no cream at all for coffee! In the evening, the same, especially with wine. One evening, we never saw an attendant after 9:00 (even though it is supposed to be open until 10:00). This experience is decrease in the level of service we received from our last stay in November 2006. I did speak to a general manager, Antonio, who assured me he would be speaking to the food service manager about the situation, but it did nothing for my stay there. FA are usually great hotels, we have stayed at 2 others, and I would normally recommend them, but I would urge caution if you are considering this upgrade to your upcoming trip. However, on the positive side, the maid service was good, turn-down every night, and the service on the beach/pool area was friendly and attentive, however at times they were stretched thin (this was during high season). The location of the hotel is great, you can catch a cab or take the bus into town for about 50 cents per person. And there are many nice restaurants in PV.

“Looking Forward to Next Time”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

Stayed at this hotel from March 6-13. Had been to PV 4 previous times, but always stayed south of town at Camino Real (now it is Dreams, an all-inclusive and I won't do that in PV with so many great restaurants). Fiesta Americana is beautiful facility with great service. We had room on 4th floor. Suggest you try to get 4th floor or higher and ask for room on right side of hotel when you are facing the water. That way, you get shade on your balcony after about 3:30 and a nice view of the bay AND the town. They told me the hotel was full during our stay, but as late as noon there were many lounge chairs available at pool and beach. 40 peso cab ride to Malecon. Bus stops right in front of hotel and it is 5 peso ride to town, but we always used cabs. Nice beach area that was being enlarged while we were there, and a beautiful pool area-very large with a lot of room. We never felt crowded at beach or pool. Restaurant was good, but "over-priced". Suggest you can walk through the LosTules property next door and enjoy a reasonably priced breakfast at their restaurant overlooking the water and town. Hotel offers an all-inclusive option and many people seemed to be using it. But why pass up all of the great restaurant choices in PV. We will return to Fiesta Americana.

“Great hotel”

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta

We stayed at the Fiesta Americana for a week and had a wonderful stay. Our check in went very well and we received the exact room we wanted, which we had booked through a travel website and not through the hotel directly. We had to wait about 30 minutes for our room to be ready but managed to occupy ourselves with a margarita by the pool while we were waiting. The lobby is gorgeous. All of the staff were helpful and kind. Items in the gift shop, such as over the counter medicines, were not jacked up in price as is often the case in hotel gift shops.

The hotel is very clean and the housekeeping service is excellent. We stayed on the 9th floor, which is the club level, and had a spectacular view. We enjoyed the continental breakfasts provided on this level and appreciated the cold drinks each afternoon and evening. The room was sized well for two people with plenty of space for clothes. The shower was spectacular with superb water pressure and a lot of space-no tub though in our room, if that matters to you. One downside is that the towels, although thick and large, are rough, espsecially on sun burned skin.

There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel and it was very easy to take the bus to and from town, at a cost of 5.5 pesos per trip. We also took a cab a couple of nights back from town which was only $5.00.

The pool was great and the staff there were attentive without being overbearing. The guacamole and salsa poolside was a great lunch, with it being a huge portion. We did not eat at the hotel other than this but enjoyed numerous restaurants in town. We would surely stay here again if we returned to Puerto Vallarta
