I stayed at this hotel with my 18 year old daughter and we had a blast. Only downfall is that air conditioning didn't work in our room. Although I told them at the front desk it never got fixed during our 1 week stay. But that is minor. Oh and my daughter did have $100 peso bill go missing ($10) that is the first time I have ever had a problem we didn't report it though. Our room was older but very clean. We had an ocean front, one single and one queen bed. Our vacation pkg came with breakfast which of course wasn't the best selection. Not that the food was bad it was great, but although they have a menu to order other things if you are paying the free breakfast menu has 4 things on it. Cornflakes, fresh fruit and toast, eggs/toast (the don't tell you on the menu but it comes with bacon or ham) or refried beans and cheese with chips. Of course juice, tea or coffee. So yes this could get boring but it tasted fine and it was free. We managed just fine. They have a turtle pond which we just loved and were there several times a day, sometimes rescuing the ones that get away and after we found out they could eat ham, we ordered ham and eggs almost everyday and saved the ham for the turtles which would swim right to you so we could feed them. The hotel staff was very pleasant and socialable, served us our drinks on the beach. Everyday just to the left of where the palapas are on the beach for this hotel was a group of Mexicans that set up grills and sold mahi mahi and grilled shrimp on a stick for $2.50 (The Mahi Mahi was so good, but get it while it's hot)plus fresh fruit cleaned and cut up in cups for another $2. The hotel only charges $60 pesos($6) for a bucket of 5 Corona. So we could have a free breakfast, pick out spot under a palapa have a cheap lunch of fish and fruit, drink beer and then we would go out for a nice supper. Try the Tropicana Special while there (a alcholic beverage, very yummy) They also have 1/2 price happy hour I think it was from 6 to 7pm. Everything I had was great. While in Mexico have Mexican food you can't go wrong. Don't order Caesar salad and expect it to be like it is at home. Unlike the person that wrote in the review that she felt sorry for the turtles that their pond was filthy, not true, the water is kinda green but we saw them drain and scrub the rocks twice while we were there. I would definitely stay here again. I loved the location I have been to PV 4 times and I have always stayed in the bigger resorts in the hotel zone, but never again. I loved being in old town it was walking distance to everything. There is so many restaurants to chose from. Andeles was awesome, Burger Paradise on the Malecon(my daughter picked that restaurant on her birthday I am more into the Mexican style restaurants) but it was one of the best burgers I had every ate. Bubba Gumps nice, but pricey. Las Palmeros was good too. I would definitley recommend the tour to Las Caletas day or night trip. I have been there for the evening show before and twice during the day, which I perfer it is so beautiful and they have a bird and monkey sanctuary. Oh yeah and go to Cafe Roma by the flea market(go to the flea market too). Food is good, cheap, Margarita's were awesome. Owned by a former Canadian guy names "Fox" had a nice conversation with him about Mexico and the servers there are very charming! The bar on the Malecon called The Zoo was fun too, drinks are reasonable. Went to the HiLo too, but you pay just like you would at home for a drink. Yes there is lots of vendors which drive some people crazy, but if you aren't interested just say no. But alot will stop and chat with you and you get to know quite a bit of info on them, Mexico. . . Oh yeah and I can't forget Estevan, he was a real sweetie pie. My daughter went parasailing and he was one of the guys on the beach that was helping with that. But she did that on the 2nd day and he always came over to talk or wave hello after that. Also they remember faces like you wouldn't believe. If you buy something from one of them they will remember your name and what you bought. One time when I was there with my 2 sisters and my Mom, myself and one sister were looking for the other sister and Mom and they took us right to them although we didn't know them, they remembered us and knew exactly who we were looking for. Mexico is a great place to holiday, it's a cheap tropical vacation, the people are so wonderful. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and I would also recommend it to anyone, unless you are the type that loves huge fancy resorts with no plans to leave it and don't plan on walking or experiencing Mexico (how boring) than this may not be the one for you. Oh yeah the pool was smaller than most hotels I have been too, but perfectly fine!

Booked the room on Bestday.com. Tropicana was a standard Mexican Place, bed on top of cement. However, the rooms were clean, the pool clean, the grounds clean and the staff not overly enthusiastic, but helpful. Left my I-pod charging when maid cleaned and was found right where I left it. Very relaxing with view of ocean and ocean is so much cleaner here then Acapulco. Totally enjoyed my stay for inexpensive r&r.

“Location, location.......”

Tropicana Hotel

We decided on the Tropicana Hotel because of its location in the old town right on Los Muertos Beach. We booked the package through Sunwing Vacations. The flight down was the best we've been on in sometime. We had a free glass of champagne, two choices of entree, wine with our meal and free headset and movie.

Upon arrival at the Tropicana we were met by the bellman who whisked us and our luggage down to the front desk. Our check-in was so fast. We got the room key and we were in our room in probably less than 5 minutes. The bellman gave us a chance to inspect the room, filled up our pitcher with water from down the hall and that was it!

Our room was on the second floor with a beautiful view of the ocean. The hotel area was very quiet. The room was simply furnished but comfortable. The room did have a few issues. The bathroom had a toilet which required multiple pulls of the handle to properly flush. There was a dropped ceiling in the entrance area of our room which seemed out of place, possibly to cover up some old reno. The ceiling fan was rusted and a Sears floor model stood beside the bed with no receptacle nearby to plug into. There was only one lamp in the room.

Our package included breakfast which was nothing to write home about and we went to our favorite Fredy's Tucan restaurant a couple of times to break the monotony.

Unfortunately the wait staff at the hotel were not overly enthusiastic even with generous tipping, although one day our maid did leave us extra fluffy towels and the super soft toilet paper!

We liked the friendly place right across the street called Lola's Nook where we exchanged money as needed. There is a great little convenience store beside it for cold beer, chips, sandwiches etc.

We would also highly recommend taking the International Friendship Club Home and Garden tour. On Thursdays the tour takes you to three southside homes and the Botanical Gardens. The homes were fabulous and the tour guides were very informative. The money goes to local charities. The Botanical Gardens really deserve a longer visit and they have the best pizza in town!

“Horrible!!!”

Tropicana Hotel

The pool was filthy. Our room was filthy. And if you think they change the spreads between customers. Think again. I won't tell you what we found in our bed. Disgusting!
When they did clean the rooms it wasn't done well. They would take our old towells and not replace them with new ones. We would have to go to the front desk and ask for new ones.
Oh yeah the front desk. Do you think they could smile? Really nasty dispositions.
The pool was disgusting. It was not clorinated once while we were there. It has a dolphin at the bottom of it that you could hardly make out most days. The water was always murky. Yuck!
And the poor turtle pond. Most people used it as an ashtray. It was never cleaned. The place is falling apart. Everything is cracked or in need of paint.
If you're gay, they don't want your business. They put you on the old side of the building. We were told that on the beach by the locals. Kids run up and down the halls at all times of the night. It was a nightmare. Would never go back there again!!!
