“Great location and great value”

Stayed at La Siesta las week - and loved it.
Admittedly it is not 5 star - and could do with a refit - but for $200 for a 2bed apartment with fantastic views it was well worth the money.

The first night we were on the 5th floor - and the noise was a shock as we arrived at 10pm on a Sat night. But the bedrooms are at the back where it is much quieter - and we didnt notice it when our heads hit the pillows! The thing that actually woke us up were the cockerels crowing at sunrise - but what a great alarm to see the bay at that time of the morning (about 0730)!

For the rest of the week we were on the 2nd floor. I was worried that the view would be limited - but my fears were unfounded. They were fantastic.

We like a firm mattress - but these are definately on the hard side of firm - so be warned if you dont like firm.....

Its actually 92 steps up to the hotel (we counted them!) - and literally at the bottom of them are 2 fantastic restaurants - Si Senor and Cafe des Artistes. Somehow it wasnt a problem climbing the steps after dinner there - might have had something to do with the margaritas......

The pool is small but nice - but it doesnt get the sun til after midday - which would be a disappointment if you were a sunworshipper. However we found that mornings would be spend wandering etc, then lunch, then a book by the pool was just perfect. The hotel has a policy of no glass at the pool area which was a surprise - so plastic cooler mugs would have been a good idea if we had thought about it.

Didnt try to eat at the restaurant - so many other fantastic one's to try within walking distance - but did meet people leaving the restaurant who raved about it (and who were jealous that we were staying there). They do offer room service to the apartments but the room menu was not inspiring so we were put off (ie std room service fare not mexican).

The maids were great - rooms very clean, new towels everyday - and good pool towels provided as well. The showers are very powerful - and the bath is unique!!

What more can I say? The huge bottle of water is a great touch - and the fridge freezer is great for keeping the drinks cold and making ice. There is an Oxxo mini mart almost on every street corner which was perfect for what we wanted - ie drinks, beers, nibbles etc.

I think the hotel has wifi - but does not have pc's that you can use - but there are internet cafe's just down the steps.

“Nice, But Dated”

Hotel Suites la Siesta

Inland Empire

We stayed at the La Siesta for one night, and that was enough for us.

La Siesta is on a steep hillside overlooking the Old Town district of Puerto Vallarta . The views are great, but getting there is something else. Taking a taxi is a test of faith as they navigate the impossibly steep and narrow streets. Walking involves a strenous climb up a series of steps. It's not bad if you're in decent shape, but it reinforces the fact that Mexico is not ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant.

We chose La Siesta since we were traveling with our step-daughter and her friend, both 18. La Siesta's two bedroom suite was much cheaper than renting two rooms in any decent hotel.

The rooms are nice, but dated. Everything was clean and worked - even the refrigerator, which looked 30 years old. At first we couldn't get hot water in the showers, so I turned a valve on the wall in the kitchen and let it run for a while. Eventually we had hot water and no problem. No idea if the valve was the issue or not.

The temperature was just right and cooled down after dark. The hotel gets a great breeze off of the bay that keeps things nice. The noise, however, is constant and all night. We didn't hear any discos blaring like some other reviewers noted, but we heard cars, alley cats, roosters, and loud voices at all hours. We're country folk, so city dwellers used to noise might fare better.

The hotel advises locking up when you leave, so it was curious to find that the large sliding glass doors overlooking the pool didn't lock. We were immediately above the pool, and it wouldn't have taken much for someone to hop up and come through these (unlocked) doors. I always travel with a length of high strength nylon cord which I used to secure the doors.

The biggest disappointment was the restaurant, the Panorama. One disclaimer for all that follows - we dined there on Valentine's Day so it was packed, especially with Americans. Eating at the Panorama is like taking a trip back to 1975; the decor is that dated and I'll bet the menu hasn't been changed since then, either. Service was sllloooowwww (they were swamped for Valentine's Day, I'll give them that) and the food was not worth the wait. Our shrimp appetizers were rubbery, the drinks were forgettable, and our Sonoran Beef filet mignons were basically flavorless. For this unique - and I guarantee one time - experience I parted with over $200 for four and got to listen to an arrogant, jack [--] American dress down the manager for his party's lengthy wait. I silently thanked my parents for teaching me discretion and chalked it up to a lesson learned - don't eat at the Panorama. Walking down to the Malecon after dinner we passed a restaurant called Si Senor which looked 100 times better. It's just down the stairs from La Siesta. Another option would be to take a taxi to Daquiri Dick's in the Zona Romantica. The prices were the same as the Panorama and the food and drinks were twice as good.

Recommendation - stay there for the price, but don't stay long and definitely don't eat at the restaurant!

“Loved the hotel - hated the noise”

Hotel Suites la Siesta

2 of 5 stars
Langley BC
Feb 21, 2008

The hotel was great, pool was good, room was super and clean. Unfortunately the noise from the nightclubs was unbelievable - until 4am. We were on the fourth floor and that may be why the sound was so bad. The first night there was also a party on a rooftop near the hotel and the bass was amazingly loud! If you are a light sleeper even with a room between you and the bedroom you may find this not worth the price.

“View is nice - but”

Hotel Suites la Siesta

Austin, Texas
Feb 18, 2008

My sisters and I stayed in a 2 br suite, which was really nice with a fantastic view. La Siesta is on a hillside overlooking the bay. Walking up and down the hillside was pretty tough. The restaurant - well when the maitre de sat us at a table and found out that I was the main one eating, he rolled his eyes in disgust. None of us girls felt welcomed in the restaurant - maybe it was because we werent escorted by men. I order oysters rockfeller, however, they were out- so I order shrimp cocktail and a steak. My sister ordered calamari. All-in-all, the bill came to about $80. They demanded that I pay cash because it was easier on them. I paid and left a good tip - not sure why, other than to show that women do leave good tips. The staff nor the management did anything to make us want to come back to their hotel. I would not recommend staying at this hotel nor eating at the restaurant.

“Authentic Experience”

Hotel Suites la Siesta

Great location in central PVR overlooking the entire city.
The Jr. Suite was very large, with 2 bedrooms at an exceptional price. The staff was friendly and helpful, the manager was more than accommodating.

There is a rooftop restaurant with high quality cuisine.

The 10 story hotel is aged but very clean and comfortable.
They deliver bottled water once you check in. The kitchenette
is well equipped with everything necessary.

Since the hotel is perched on a hillside in the heart of downtown, there are many steps if walking from the Malecon to the hotel.
However for about 10 pesos you can take a taxi up the hill right to the front entrance; from there you can take the elevator up to your room.

We walked the hill several times and I admit it was a bit tiring, but I felt better for it.

All in all, I greatly recommended this hotel!

What a bargain.
