“great value”

Playa Mazatlan Hotel

We stayed here July 11-18. Two adult couples. This is a great vaule hotel. Be advised that this property is not what Americans typically would rate as a better property. Our entire stay we heard maybe 4 other guests that spoke English. it was quite nice, actually! Apparently this place is more popular with the Nationals.

We opted for the all-inclusive plan that included meals and beverages. For not that much more per night it was a good deal. We ate breakfast there every morning and several dinners. They gave us a special menu, but in comparing it to the other menue, it was basically the same. Because it didnt cost much more we were able to eat out at some other restaurants.

The Mexican Fiesta was fun. No, not a Broadway show, but very entertaining and worth going to.

When taking care of any kind of business at the front desk, please remember, this is Mexico. They are not on the same time restraints that we Americans are. Be patient as this is their culture, not ours. Even though they spoke English, it is limited, but they can understand better than speaking it.

One downside is that at night you can hear the bass of the music at "Joes Crabshack next door to the south of the property. Request rooms towards the North. We were right in the middle and it was not too bad. i took a sound machine and when that was turned on it was no big deal.

Our bed was quite comfortable. It is worth the extra $10 or $12 per night for the larger ocean view room. Especially if you have children with you.

If you plan on spending any time at the palapas on the beach, a guy will come out to get you drinks or snacks. Be sure and tim them several dollars at the beginning and they will take care of you. This is the same for the restaurant. We were treated like royalty and noticed that not many other people even tipped at all.

    • Disliked — The air conditioner did not cool as much as we anticipated but it was truly no big deal.

“Great Location!”

Great location! Lots of locals on the beach, kind of busy at times. The food was okay. The show that is advertised wasn't all that (food was bland). Keep in mind accomodations aren't what we are used to here in the states. I would stay again. Super friendly staff and felt very safe.

“disappointed at Playa”

Playa Mazatlan Hotel

Jul 2, 2008

I have been loyal to this hotel for the last 10+ years, despite some problems in previous stays but this time I noticed
several areas of concern and disappointment.
The room are not as nitid as they used to be. Showers
are not well maintained, rusted in some areas and leak
under the shower doors (you have to keep on cleaning
the area. The first day the water flooded the main room
partially.
TV reception(advertised as cable)is bad in several channels.
The common areas are not well maintained anymore, they
feel dirty and wet all the time. littter is not removed from
the common areas sometimes the whole day.
Noisy binge underage drinking is tolerated at ANY time of day or night by the beach area of the hotel and common areas.
The nights are unbearable, since there is screaming, running
and profanity in the common areas(in the middle of the night) making it impossible to have a good night rest.
The morning shift arrives early and SINGING ALOUD! in the
hallways(they wake you up, of course).
We moved to a larger room but the hotel personel failed to warn us about the huge construction project next to our room
and you cannot hear the TV sometimes with all the noise(so,
forget about a nap ,watching TV or even reading in your room).
In general, the hotel is deteriorating in cleanliness, customer
service, decor.
I probably wont stay at this hotel anymore. Its a shame and a
pity for the hotel.
The administration has a lot of work to do if they want to keep
their loyal customers that enjoyed staying at Playa and miss
the superb service once delivered there.

Our family of 9 stayed at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan over Christmas 2007 and found the hotel to be excellent value. Great location, with lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Beautiful beach. Hotel very clean. Would definitely stay here again.

“Playa Mazatlan Sucks!”

The toll free number on their website does not work. Sent them 3 emails and got no response. Finally got an actual phone number for them and confirmed room twice to make sure I got deluxe ocean view which I did. Service is VERY BAD. If you are a gringo you get treated like dirt. I was ignored many times in order for the help to wait on non-gringos. View was great, but plastic patio furniture was size for little kids. Hotel safes are in lobby not your room. When I asked concierge about parsailing she said "go down to the beach". Food marginal. After 2 nites we moved to the heavenly Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan. One of the best hotel stays I have ever had!
