Well the Viva Wyndham got some bad reviews before we went on our vacation so we were a little scared but as soon as we got there we knew the bad reviews were wrong. The Viva was great we had a great time. The rooms like they said are a little run down but who spends their vacation in their room and Maureen was always there to clean are room when we wanted her to. I slept like a baby though the beds are comfortable The beach was beautiful. If you want any gifts and do not want to leave the beach Jackie and her son Jackson will help you out. (They are locals who sell things on the beach lines but not part of the Viva staff. )The staff was as nice as could be. The food was good like the buffet the Italian restraunt was ok. Suggestions for your vacation bring a insulated mug the staff will fill it for you and this keeps your drinks cold while on the beach. The shows some good some bad but bingo was fun. The reef at the resort is super. And go to the port and do the dolphin swim.

After reading plenty of reviews we decided to trade our timeshare and stay at the Viva Fortuna. Previous reviewers are correct with regards to the rooms needing updated. They are rather old and small. However, the staff cleaned our room daily, changed the sheets twice and stocked our refridgerator and exchanged our towels daily.
The staff are trully excellent. They go out of their way to accomodate your needs. They were friendly and provided great service with or without a tip. In short, be nice to them and they will be nice to you.
The food was excellent, there was a great deal of variety at the buffet. They change the menu everyday. There were a few birds in the dining area, they were not on our table, ever. It is not air conditioned, and on some days was hot. Sit on the bottom level. The Italian restaurant suffered fire damage, but the Chinese restaurant was nice for a little one night change. Make reservations when you arrive.
Diving is terrific, snorkeling is great, sailing is a blast (only one boat). The disco is also a little hot. Excursions are easy and moderately priced. The bikes are a bit old but fun to ride into Port Lucaya. The beach is awesome. There are plenty of activities and the nightly shows are excellent.
For the price my family of 5 had a great week.
Hints: Join Wyndam by request prior to arriving and get 1 hour of free internet access and a free welcome snack. You can also get a free upgrade to an oceanview room if available. I also found free wireless after the shops closed for the night. A taxi to and from the resort for a family of 5 was $29 and is easily available.

Alright here goes....we just returned from the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach resort with our two granddaughters ages 8 and 10. Yes the rooms are outdated and the food was basic but there was lots of it. I did hear some of the other guess complaining some but heck I think they complain just to hear themselves talk...so be it. And yes I did tip ....I do in the states and I do out of the states...if service is good. The beach was wonderful and the reef was very close to shore. My oldest granddaughter and me spent many hours exploring it. The pool was great and we did learn to dance alitte at the pool side. We met many great people and enjoyed our stay alot. The staff was very friendly and the maid even brought my granddaughter a seashell to take home. The negative side was it rained a few days and the flies bite and oh yea the italian restartant caught on fire which bummed us alittle for we had reservations there that night...ugg!! Only once did we have to wait for a table at the main dining area...so we went and played a quick game of ping pong! ..... We have stayed at over 30 different resorts so this wasn't a first time experience..and I have stayed at freeport before at other resorts...this isn't a 5 star resort but well worth the price. We plan on returning again next year.

I stayed at the Wyndham for three nights from June 25th to June 28th and had a great time. We arrived at the resort early on that Monday and were given wrist bands and was told we had to wait to 3p to check-in because our room was not ready. We just went to the beach and hung out until then. They offered dance lessons and diving lessons. The resort offered shows every night and we attended two. Which were Grease and the variety show they were cheesy yet funny and we went to the disco each night and had a ball. The oriental and italin resturant does fill up fast so make reservations as soon as you arrive. The night before our reservation at the italian resturant it caught fire and closed. so we were unable to experience it. The staff was really friendly and was very involved in every part of our vacation. I wouls take the advice of tothers and bring a big cup for drinks because they have little dixie cups probably about 6 to 8 ozs which sucked. When looking at the rooms do not expect the Hilton they were just ok but we were not planning to really be in the room. they had a tile floor, small fridge, nice oceanview there was a small leak from the balcony above ours on to our balcony so we did not go out there. Other then that the overall trip was great.
