My husband and I vacationed at Young Island in July 2005. We arrived there after dark and were picked up at the pier by the little ferry service that goes back and forth from St. Vincent to Young Island. We were greeted with rum punch and made to feel very welcome. Our cottage, #9, was ready and it felt like we were on our own private island. The cottage had it's own little patio and private entrance with a gate and a hammock. We had an oceanfront view. The island was like a little paradise. There were not a lot of guests there and it was very peaceful and relaxing. We spent a lot of time just relaxing. There was an outdoor shower that was a lot of fun--and there was privacy. The food was plentiful and gourmet style. We took the day trip down to Union Island and rode the catamaran to Mayreau, Tobago Cays, and Palm Island. Another day we rode the ferry over to Bequia. Oh and I must mention the "dollar busses". Don't be afraid to go into town on them. It is quite an experience. The trip to Young Island is one that I'll never forget.

“Young Island Sailaway”

Just returned from a seven-day "sailaway" vacation at Young Island. Although I had visited as a guest on a bareboat before, this was my first as a guest staying on the island. The trip exceeded my expectations in many ways. We enjoyed a lot of activities other than just eating (and the food is wonderful!) or lying on the beach. Tennis is readily available to help work off your meals, and the small "Sunfish-style" sailboats are a lot of fun in the shifty breezes of Young Island Cut. The taxi tour to Montreal Gardens up in the Mesopotamia Valley of St. Vincent was one of the highlights of our trip. Stops in Mustique and Bequia aboard th "Lady Young" were also memorable--George and Danny kept us well-fed and comfortable, and managed to land fresh "catch-of-the-day" for supper one night. We came to know many of the resort staff by name during the week, and everyone--from security and housekeeping to the wait staff and bartenders and office staff--was as cheerfully helpful as they could possibly be. There is occasionally some late-night music from the bars on St. Vincent, but it was usually drowned out by the sound of the wind in the trees around our cottage. Our overall experience was very positive, and we will certainly return to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and/or Young Island if we get the chance.

We have just returned from our Honeymoon. We spent 14 wonderful days at Young Island and it exceeded all of our expectations! We wanted SCUBA, sun and relaxation and that is exactly what we got. This is not the place to go if you want to shop. The only time we left the island was to check out Kingstown. Getting to St. Vincent was a bit of a hassle due to the carrier LIAT. Warning - DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM! - the locals have a name for them - Leave Island Any Time. We spent 10 hrs in Barbados waiting for a flight to St. Vincent. We rebooked our flight back on Caribbean Star/Sun and had a great flight. Getting back to Young Island - this place was beautiful, clean and quiet! There are some cottages with air conditioning. Even if ours had it we would not have needed or wanted it. The breezes kept you quite comfortable. We were in Cottage #5 for the first week. After a 2 night sail away on the island yacht (in which we were the only couple along with the captain and cook, thank you George and Dan) we were in Cottage #17. This cottage is a Superior Cottage all the way at the top of the hill. It had a wonderful stone patio that was so secluded it was just you and the iguanas! It is a bit of a hike but what better way to burn off the great food than to climb a few stairs. Oh, I cannot forget the great employees. We were treated like one of the family by everyone, especially Fitz and King. Want a good game of backgammon? Just ask one of them. The employees could not have been more helpful and gracious. I find it hard to believe the previous vacationer stayed at the same resort! We could not have asked for a more perfect honeymoon and will definitely return!

I was looking foreward to our stay in st vincents at the young island hotel for quite a while, it should have been paradise. The hotel was run down and dirty with no air conditioning it was miserable. The beach was also dirty with lots of glass and had little or no bar service. There were so many jelly fish in the water you really couldn't swim in it besides the swim up bar was empty with no one there most of the time we were there. Some of the staff was very very rude when I had asked about a few things to do for the week. Overall I will never return to st vincent because of the terible time I had at this hotel. Oh yes and did mention that everything was very expensive. If that's how the rest of the caribbean is I'll stick with mexico where you always have a great time and the people are friendly.

We had read many of the previous reviews on Young Island and were somewhat concerned. However, those concerns were unwarranted. Yes, it's true that service isn't always speedy - but you are in the islands, and this is customary. You need to slow down and enjoy island time! The staff was pleasant, some more so than others...but tell me where that isn't the case. We were treated like royalty for our entire trip, with many little extras thrown in. The cottages were beautiful, private, and spacious. The beach is very nice, the water was clear and the snorkeling was pretty good right off the beach...coral, fish, and sand dollars. Yes, there was some debris in the water, but only after a very large rain storm with high winds blew through...but it cleared up by the next day. All of these things that other people complained about are quite normal circumstances for wherever you may travel and have inclement weather. The food was excellent and abundant. I strongly recommend the meal plan. We will definitely go back to Young Island, and to see some of our favorite staff...Fitz (who gave us a private guitar performance on my birthday), bartenders King and VanDyke who both make great bloody mary's! The many waitresses and waiters whose names I don't remember, and Dawn and Michele in the office. Experience Young Island with an open mind and you won't be disappointed.
