“My favorite place to stay.......”

Whistling Bird Resort

May 12, 2008

Once again our stay at Whistling Bird was fabulous. Bavra, welcomes us like she has known us for 20 years or so. Miss G and Lilly are so sweet.
Ms Sonia and Annette can really cook, we had some of the best food ever on this stay. Homemade bread for sandwiches, yum.
This is such a relaxing place to stay, I never want to leave the property when I am there I am so relaxed.
The cottages are comfortable and the yard is unbelievable with plants and trees and birds.

“Really like no place else FABULOUS”

Whistling Bird Resort

I'm just so excited to try to get this review right. I've stayed there 3 times over several years, and just booked again. I've been alone, and I've been with others. Just as great either way. I don't know how many resort hotels I've stayed at in my life -- but it's a lot. I can't really pick them out, I dont recall them in conversations at a bar. But THIS place, man o man - it is really something, sitting there directly on the beach in its own little rain forest setting. I read once in a magazine that at Whistling Bird the trees and plants seem almost to have swallowed up the cottages - and that's true.

I can always quickly recall this gem of a place when talking to a friend, and if I were to make a list of places I just MUST return to --- it's really only Whistling BIrd. There is so much special about it. For one thing its private, the cottages are unique design. Saying the staff is great is sort of generic - what has happened here is these staff have been picked, trained, nurtured, and somehow the vibes of the place puts you in a contact not normally felt. Saying great staff just does not make it - this is a special place for guests. You just don't find such a place where the mix of staff and guest is so much in interplay with so much good food, good comfort, good drink, even the music is hand-picked. The painter and varnish man is just as elemental as the Chef or office lady or owner. This place sings harmony. Cottages are fantastic ad well thought out, cared for and upkeep very, very good. There are so many things (decorations) to notice both inside and out. It breathes Jamaica literally. I have met several past guests of all types, and they all say the same thing - "Best Vacation I ever had." The Bird has sort of a entreprenuerial sort of guest mix, and the people who go there have been around - they have PICKED the place, not sent there by some website or agent. If its food, they are among the best. If its cottages - no one has this sort of modern Jamaican style, everything modern, but everything a rustic design influence. If its the setting - it certainly captures the heart of Negril in a non-commercial way. The beach is so HUGE there, they built way back and planted trees heavily --- you cant even see into it from the beach. That's good cause it makes the view looking out to the sea so superb
AC, TV, WiFi DSL, VOIP, big cottages, small cottages, dining and bar - it's all there. Setting is large enough for you to hide in when you want solitude, don't think I've ever seen every part of the grounds ( I have seen a great large wedding take place there, and family reunion once, too). This place is well run, and always evolving in a neat , conscious way.
I can't exactly put my finger on what it is there at The Bird, but Im always wanting to go back. I just SEE myself there. It is one unique, laid back, relaxing, invigorating scene. It's central to everything, no waiting in line, and they can put as much or as little as you want into a custom package - even can make it all inclusive. It's my Place in The Sun - I'd advise you to make it yours.

“At home in a Tropical Paradise”

Whistling Bird Resort

I felt at home when i got out the van and saw the Front Office staff came to greet me with a hug. My room was ready, the key was in the door and i didnt have to go to the front office right away. By the time i got relaxed, i received a tour of the property and introduced to staff as i go along. I met the Manager the first day, hanging out with us, just like a another guest. I must say the staff is professional and at the same time, act as if I was a known family member for years (so comfortable). The beach is beautiful - one of my main reasons to visit Jamaica. Personally i tried the food other places and I must say Whistling Bird food is one of 2 places that I loved. My room was cleaned everyday, clean towels, bed linen - the rooms is refreshed everyday. It was spring break, and i wanted to party, one Thursday night as i was about to leave for a party with some new friends, a club nearby was rocking, disturbing guest, the manager notified the police who did achieve a goal of peace and quiet. I can't wait til next year to go back home to my beautiful paradise at Whistling Bird to see my Jamaican family - Jim, Julie, Lilly, Anthony, Miss G, Chefs, houskeepers, front office - Just everyone! My new friends that I met there is still my friends and we are planning to go back together next year! Yah mon......D'Moya

“Now wait just a minute.....”

Title: Now wait just a minute ....

I know this place. I go there - I have friends who go there from the tourist industry in Jamaica. I do not agree with some of these statements that have been posted recently, so here is my interpretation of the situation at the WB.
I was there for one or two days each of three times over a two month period this fall. Sheets look new to me and high quality, lots of quality towels - it's always clean there, and the maintainance is always in progress. Being from the tourism sector, I can tell you this is difficult to accomplish. The owner really stresses this. It's a well run ship from a behind the scenes guy. I personally find the food fantastic, one of the top five in Negril I¹d say. As to the noise - I also go to the club in question - I like it ( keep in mind it is only really functioning on Thursday nights). While the night club in question was a problem for the Bird some years ago, it has not been much of one for a long time. There's a new sherriff in town you might say. I can tell you the club is under control, and the police have stiff penalties for noise violations.
May I say this is a great place, really like almost no place else and I admire what they do. Great non-hotel experience, beautiful details everywhere you look. I love going to the WB, and can¹t wait to go back.

My stay was great at the Whistling Bird, the staff was the best-So Friendly and Helpful!
This was so much better than a Huge Resort, as the personalized attention was fantastic. We had no problems with noise, and found the individual cottages to be very peaceful-Loved to hear the rain on the roofs!
Will definatly be returning~
