We stayed at Bar-B-Barn for 7 nights in April and were quite pleased! Although I had read recent reviews on TA that made me worry about what to expect, what we found was a nice property, pleasant staff, great food and affordable if modest accomodations. This is Negril and the people are absolutely wonderful, its a shame that some people can't adjust to the culture and slow thier pace down to enjoy life like the Jamaicans.

The location of the hotel is perfect, situated on a beautiful stretch of the 7 mile beach, you couldn't ask for a better setting. The staff including front desk, bartenders, serving staff, security, and housekeeping were always there with a pleasant smile, friendly words, and eager to help. The room was clean, and well maintined, we were quite satisfied and felt the room was well worth what we paid at $55/night (low season).

The only issue I would mention is that we were told there would be wireless internet available, but found that to be untrue, uless you have 'management approval'. The computer in the office was available for a nominal charge, but I found it easier to just tote my laptop next door to Mom's Place where I could access FREE wireless internet with the purchase of a Red Strip or a cup of coffee.

If you are looking for a snooty, elitist experience, stay at one of the walled compounds they call 'resorts'. If you are looking to truly experience Jamaica, what better way than to stay with a truly genuine and friendly people like those at Bar-B-Barn. I would recommend this hotel to anyone with a laid back attitude looking for an economical place to stay. We could have spend much more than a week here.

I went to the Bar-N-Barn for Spring Break. The rooms where clean but somewhat dilapidated. It was cheap though so you can't ask for much. The bartender made excellent drinks and the food was very good. I had the jerk pizza and Blue Marlin which where both excellent. The service was usually pretty slow but that's Negril. They also served free breakfast and I waited an hour for eggs. The security was also very good. So the service is extremely slow, rooms need work, but the experience was well worth the few problems.

“Disgusting”

Bar-B-Barn

The only word to describe this hotel is 'disgusting'. We hve just returned Jamaica and spent 2 days at the Bar B Barn hotel.

As it was Easter weekend and most of the accomodation in Negril was booked out. We checked into the hotel and the reception looked nice and fresh and very clean. When we were shown to our room I was horrified.

There was light bulbs missing, the bathroom door was all kicked in. The furniture was damaged and handles hanging off the hindges. The bathroom was the worse bathroom I have ever seen and I have travelled to all over the world. I have to say this was the worse hotel I have ever seen. The mould around the bath was unreal, even the the bed linnen was disgusting and grey in colour from being washed so many times.

This hotel should be totaly refurbished and painted. I would certainly not recommend this accomodation to anyone!!!

Shower didn't work, toilet ran constantly, loud music at night, started the very loud broken washer/dryer at 8 AM that shook the hotel, bugs in the bed and room, depleted restautrant menu (always out of somthing), extremely slow service (waited 2 hours for dinner one night), no fridge, tiny TV, sporadic maid service, 2 for 1 Pina Coladas where one cost you $8 ....what can I say this is Jamaica. All this said this is one of the better spots on the beach and it is a relaxed environment. In a depressed economy worldwide don't expect any deals or value. For all the bad stuff listed we would probably go back, crazy.

After coming from what we thought was a horrible stay on the cliffs the bar-b-barn was kind of a let down too. our room had only a teeny tiny fridge, and no dresser. the slippery tile floors would be covered in sand an salt every day and there were lots of ants. we were supposedly in a room that is typically more expensive than what we paid, it wasnt worth the $80. OUr window was directly outside the kitchen door and wee eould be woken up every morning by the loadmouth "head waitress type" yelling at everyone. The a/c in the room made me wake up every morning congested. the part of the beach where it is is directly next to the lane that goes by barry's. so there are hustlers out there morning noon and night. the bar closed early so at night you couldnt do anytihng but sit in your room. there were plenty of bars in the area but you can only listen to bob marley cover tunes so much. We enjoyed ryan, the day security who would have towels and chairs for us in the shade everyday. also having banana daquiris delivered to our beach chairs right after we finish our morning coffee. But it seemed like alot to deal with to be on the beach. we have some of the most gorgeous beaches right here at home, so there are plenty of good beaches where you dont have to be hassle all the time. its just that theres only so many you can go to in febuary and smoke pot.
