I came back from staying at the Sandcastles Hotel yesterday (11 April 2008).
Before I went I read the reviews on here and wasn't looking forward to the stay at all. A lot of my friends have stayed here there a few times and told me there was nothing to worry about.
On arrival and checking in I went to check my room out before I took my case and was pleasantly surprised. Was in room E22 and it was spacious, clean and had a nice kitchen and bathroom, a lovely bedroom and dining/living room.
There was a spacious fridge (for all my alcohol) and a freezer, a toaster and kettle and pots etc.
My friends stayed in D12 and this was also a clean and spacious room.
Neither of us saw any cockroaches/ants or encountered any mosquito's or bites.
Our apartments were cleaned everyday and clean towels left daily.
The gardens were kept immaculate and the pool.
We sunbathed round the pool and the entertainment around there was fantastic, especially for the children.
There was a shop just at the front that was small but handy and you can purchase good Jamaican food - cheap. Lots of locals visit so you know its good.
I was approached by a lot of the local men which was abit off putting at first but got used to them after abit and they were ok. It was a bonus that my friends knew a lot of people there as they are married to locals so it was fantastic as I got to know a lot of people around Ocho Rias.
My friend got married at the hotel within the grounds, and it was a fantastic day, the wedding planner Merner did a fantastic job and the food at the wedding (supplied by the hotel) was fantastic. It did rain at night so we moved to the function room.
This is a fantastic place to go to, and a fantastic place to stay.
If you need a taxi look out for Gareth, as he is a nice guy and will takeyou anywhere at a reasonable price.
No complaints from me, Oh apart from the noisy air conditioning units, but hey not everything is perfect, it did the job.
