“Great Family Vacation Place!”

Beaches Boscobel Resort & Golf Club

Jul 2, 2008

Bottom-line: We had a great vacation with our 2 sons (ages 12 and 5).
The drive:
It is what it is. Sit back, enjoy the scenery and it does pass by quicker than you'd think. The ride there was 2 hours but the ride back was 20 minutes shorter for some reason.
The room:
We signed up for a delux family suite in the main building but we were pleasently surprised to be upgraded to an ocean front, conceirge room. We were called several weeks b4 our trip and offered the chance to upgrade for $600 but we turned it down. The room was vey nice and clean. No signs of wear and tear. The view was fantastic!
Kids Kamp:
A+++ Our 5 year old waas excited to go everyday and we had to drag him out every afternoon. The nannies are fun but firm with the kids. They go out of their way (including one who took it upon herself to fix our son's souvenier necklace that accidently broke during the last day of his camp). Our 12 year old bounced between XBOX lounge, the pools and the beach. We felt very safe letting him do his own thing and interacting with the other kids.
Food:
Elelanors and Ventitian are close to 5 stars. Arizona is a solid 4 star and the Bayside and the BBQ grill are 3 stars plus. There is something for everyone. Go to Appletons Bar. Nobody seems to find it and it has the best view with a steel drum band serenading you every night (the "singer" is a little strange but friendly none the less).
Actvities:
Slide pool is great. The big pool is relaxing with the swim-up bar (although the bartenders service at this bar was a little spotty) and keep an eye out for the pool volleyball games in the late afternoon. My 12 year old and I had a blast doing that. The beach is small and the ocean swim area is even smaller but it was still big enough for a refreshing dip and we never had an issue getting chairs down there (the pool, as stated by other reviewers, is another story.... reserve a few chairs by throwing your stuff down no later than 8am). We did countless banana boat rides and several HobieCat rides.
The only off-site trip we took was DunnRivers Falls. This is a must!! We debated on taking our 5 year old and we're glad we didn't. It is a challenging climb but a ton of fun.

I don't want to be too repetative with the other reviewers but I'll end by saying:
My take on the bad reviews: On any vacation to anywhere there is always the chance that something could go wrong. The bad reviewers either had bad luck or they are very picky. (Don't go expecting a 5 star resort).
Boscobel was a hit with us.
I'm fairly easy going and a realistic optimist by nature but even my picky (but lovely) wife (who had reservations and doubts going into it) was very happy and would gladly go back in a second.

“Wedding at Beaches Boscobel”

Beaches Boscobel Resort & Golf Club

Our daughter and new son in law were married on the beach and everyone at Beaches Boscobel were more than eager to make sure that their special day was nothing less than wonderful. Including the bride and broom, there was 32 of us that attended and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the resort. Our week could not have been better.
I, myself would like to thank all of the employees at Beaches Boscobel for their kindness and friendliness but I was especially impressed by the young men who served our dinner almost every night of our at stay at the restuarant, Eleanors. The food was delicious and I have never eaten anywhere where the service was any better. Hats off to these young men!!!!!!!
We definitely would love to return to Jamaica soon. We all absolutely loved the island and the people.

“Great Family Experience”

We chose Beaches because the website promised a wide range of activities for our wide range of children! With teenagers, a tween, and a toddler, it's hard for us to find a place where everyone has fun. It was a big plus for us to have some alone time, too! We loved the all-inclusive nature of our vacation, and that supervised kids activities were part of the package. Our older kids loved Roger and linked up with other teens throughout our stay. Our tween had a great time and is in touch via e-mail with two friends she met. She loved the waterslides the best, and will always remember her participation in the Friday night Talent Show. Our little one is still talking about Elm-e and Cookie. I was so impressed with the absolute love for the little ones displayed by Vanessa and Stacy. We took pictures with the toddler staff so our daughter will remember them for our next trip. The only downsides --- the resort is 2 1/2 hours from the airport and with no food all day, you need to plan for feeding your kids .... the room furnishing are a little dated and after a long trip your heart can sink a bit on the first day until you get some rest. We ended up thinking of our room like a cruise cabin, only much bigger, and not a place where we regularly stayed. Overall, the food was fine and the rooms were fine, but the reason we'll return had to do with the staff and the fun we had as a family every day. Oh yeah, we did one excursion - the canopy zip line tour. I'm scared of heights so my kids got a great kick out of us all doing this challenge together. What a memory!

“Nighttime music way too loud for little ones”

Beaches Boscobel Resort & Golf Club

2 of 5 stars
Arlington, VA

We just got back from a week at Beaches Boscobel with our 4 and 5-year old. Overall, this was an okay vacation for our family. The food was pretty good, the people were friendly and helpful. The waterpark was great for the kids. Because of a number of problems, however, we won't be going back.

We reserved an Oceanfront, luxury suite and we got one--but unfortunately it turned out to be right behind the main music stage. Night after night the walls of our room shook from the loud music of the live stage show which did not end until 10:30 p.m. Earplugs and BOSE noise cancelling headphones did not work. Management was unsympathetic to pleas to lower the volume. We felt that this was unreasonable for a resort that caters to families with young children.

Don't go to this resort expecting a Caribbean beach paradise. Beaches Boscobel has a small, steep, artificial beach, often murky water (from the churned up sand) and at times is seaweed filled. No shells, just trucked-in sand and rocks. Any of the eastern U.S. seaboard beaches are better than this beach.

You can sign up to go somewhere else to snorkel and scubadive, but you have to get up early in the morning and wait in line to sign up for the next day. They tell you that there's not a limit-- that everyone gets to go (scubadiving), but that's not always true. There is a cut off, and if there are too many people you won't be able to sign up for the next day.

They ran out of apple juice on four of seven days. (tragedy with a 3 and 5 year old.)

The pools/waterpark are the place to be with young kids, but if you want poolside beach chairs you have to stake out your turf early in the morning. The first day we didn't know this and didn't get beach chairs, but on day 2 and subsequent days one of us went down by 8:00 a.m. to stake out chairs. This worked fine. At times there was competition for clean towels at the pools.

The resort has photo shop employees going around taking photos of your kids at play. They take a picture then pop a numbered wristband on your kid's wrist to help you id your photos at the photo shop a later time. You can purchase separate photos for $16US each or you can purchase one of their packages, (eg. 100 photos for $400US.) Seemed too pricey to us. Take your digital camera and save a bundle. Note: they have a photo shop on the premises, but they won't burn the photos from your digital camera onto a CD for you b/c it competes with their photo taking business.

The Kids Club didn't really work out well for us. We didn't expect it to be a problem since both the kids are used to preschool, but neither of them liked it. They spent about three hours total in the Kids Club and spent the rest of the time with us.

Having said all of this, I know that my two kids loved this vacation (mostly on account of the pools, waterslides, ice cream cones and pink slushies) and they would both have given it a five out of five star rating. But they felt the same way about cheap, nearby Rehoboth beach last year. For the bucks, I would stay closer to home next time.

“Enjoyed Beaches Boscobel”

Beaches Boscobel Resort & Golf Club

Mom and 3 adult daughters had a wonderful time at Beaches Boscobel! We go on a Mom and Daughter trip every year and decided to try somewhere new this year. Although this resort is to be a family place with children we decided to give it a try.
It started out a litttle rough as our flight out of Miami was delayed and we spent our first day at the airport but once we arrived in Jamaica we were shuttled to the resort. It was not a bad ride except it was dark before we made it there due to our flight being 5 hours late. Our driver did a great job!

The first day we spent by the pool and there were several children that were active in the pool but the lifeguard seem to have them in his sights. It was a little too crowed for us by the early afternoon.

The next two days were spent lying on the beach. We snorkled, sailed and went on the glass bottom boat tour. We must say our beach days were our favorite. Oneal was the best!!!! He was waiting for us in the morning and took care of our needs all day. He went the extra mile and started calling Mom....Mommy! We can't say enough about how special he made us feel. Also, Prince the snorkel guide was wonderful. One of the daughter's got a cramp in her foot while snorkeling and he was there right by her helping her. It was like he just appeared when she needed him. All of the beach staff were great!

Our meals were fabulous. The food and drinks were delicious!
The servers were all super nice and remembered us throughout our vacation. They would see us around the resort and would always say Hi. We did notice that the female servers at the Bayside were not as accomodating as the males. They did not seem to be as friendly. Orlando always was happy to see us and would come to our table even when we were not seated in his section. He was our server at Eleanor's along with Kirklon and they made that night a great dining experience. They are super!

We did have pedicures at the Red Lane Spa and enjoyed getting our tired feet pampered. The day we had our spa day they were doing free hand parafin treatments and that was a nice bonus.

As far as our room....We had the perfect room. We will request the same room next time. We were on the top floor above the Arizona. Mom sat on our balcony and watched all the weddings on Sunday. She now has a new nickname the "Wedding Crasher". Shantel was our housekeeper and did a wonderful job! She was so kind when she would come in, always smiling.
We did get spoiled with the bed turn back service!

Every evening we would receive a newsletter about the next days activities which was really nice so that you could plan your day accordingly. We stayed busy at the resort and never felt the need to leave for other excursions.

Thanks Beaches Boscobel for a wonderful vacation!
