More than a little disappointed on my wedding day. My travel agent told me the hotel was by the airport. You should be VERY aware the hotel is right next to the airport (at the end of the runway). It is no exaggeration to say the planes were LOUD! Imagine your wedding day when the minister has to stop talking so the plane(s) can go over head. They have a custom to wave at outbound planes, so in the middle of my ceremony both the minister and the photographer were waving at the planes. Forget about buying the video...you'll hear the planes. The rep at Sandals in FL told me that I MUST book a photographer for my wedding day. Not true. They show up regardless. The staff was helpful in correcting the other issues/mess ups. I would rate the concierge staff a 4.5 on a 5 scale. Needless to say we won't be going back back to celebrate our 1st anniversary.

When we arrived to the Sandals Montego Bay Resort we were treated to cold towels and Champagne. We also received an upgrade on our hotel room it was overlooking the ocean. Our first evening dinner was at the Bayside is when we first met with Stevan. We highly recommend if you go for lunch or dinner at the Bayside ask for Stevan or Omar, they were both very good.
Upon arrival make sure that you reserve for all of the restaurants that require a reservation. We reserved at Tokoyo Joe's and was greeted by our waiter Travis who was overwhelmed by my stories of wild goats. He made our meal very enjoyable and we recommend you ask for Travis you won't be disappointed. All the staff are friendly and outgoing and always saying "HI" to you no matter where you are in the resort. A great bunch of staff.
Also we would like to mention that every morning when you are having breakfast you are greeted by the Horace the General Manger of the resort, we thought that was a nice touch for him to take time from his day to meet with all of the guests.
Know when you want to get a really good drink go to the beach bar and ask for Sedrick he makes a real mean "Rum Runner" but ask for light on the ice.
The water activities are katamaran boats, kayaks, pedal boats for one or for two people. The guides on these boats are very informative for the surrounding area.
The entertainment was always a treat after dinner, they would try to involve the guests in activities and then they were rewarded with Appleton Rum. There was even a beach Barbeque with fire dancing. During the day on the beach they would bring in craft vendors so you really didn't need to leave the property.
There is alot of tours that the resort has to offer and we went on the plantation tour with our guide JC. We then went on the Martha Brae Rafting which was very peaceful for a 3 mile ride. We highly recommend this resort as a fun loving upbeat friendly place to stay and play.

“Average but fun Sandals Montego Bay”

Sandals Montego Bay

We have returned from Sandals Montego Bay a week ago today. This was our first trip to Montego Bay. My husband has stayed at Ochos about 8 years ago. Overall our stay was great. We were upgraded to the Palms Building. Our view was fabulous and the room was newly renovated. Paint still seemed very fresh. Our bed was very comfortable and we had no problem with noise from restaurants, or planes or anything else for that matter. The resort is kept up very well for being as old as it is. The resort is a fun resort...very active and the "playmakers' are a blast. The keep things hopping on and off thru out the day. But always seemed to keep it quiet at just the right time. We visited the Royal and it is nice but---YAWN!!!. The have shows and activities that are, well - more slow.

Food---don't get too excited. We did not and were pleasantly surprised. Excellent service always though. BEST BETS: Royal Thai at the Royal resort and Cucina Romana. Fridays is the Buffet, get there early---some things like crab legs run out fast.
Food at lunch seems to be left over from the day before or night before...Also, yuck to the hamburgers---go for the sandwhiches instead. Coffee is strong. Jerk chicken is the best.

Drinks---Strong--whew. I had to tell them to lighten up but that is ok. Out of Redstripe the first day (What???) but had it after that every day. Bartenders in Atlanta could take some advice from the guys at Montego. Remember what you drink and how you like it.

The Resort---Old but cool. There was a bad smell in the certain area around the pool for a few days that bothered us. Smelled like someone had been sick. Towels can be hard to come by in the early a.m. Before 9:00 anyway. If in a pinch go to the work out area, there are some there. Pools seemed to never be real clean. Cloudy!!

We had fun. We met some great people from all over. We have had better at other all inclusives though. My advice to Sandals is check out the others; add some more perks. All people should have conceirege and room service.

Our dissappointment really came when we were checking out and leaving. The front desk were not as friendly as the rest of the staff---I know they were busy. And we all were un-impressed that none of them asked us how was our stay. And to come back...What happened to all the customer service.

Sandals is ok, but I think they need to be aware that there are alot of choices out there too. RIU seems gaining on the all inclusive resorts and getting better reviews.

“Sandals Montego Bay”

Sandals Montego Bay

This was my second stay in a Sandals property and was very different from my first. My husband and I stayed at the Sandals in Bahama the year before and had a great time. Therefore, we decided to try the Sandals in Jamaica. We were very disappointed. When we arrived we had a room right above the lobby it was so noisy, so we had to be moved and the staff was not impressed. The beach was horrible and not to mention very small - so if you want a nice beach this might not be the right location. The room was fine but it seem like the bed had bed-bugs..was not impressed for a sandals resort. To top it off the day we were leaving we were leaving they brought on juice and snacks onto the bus and the Sandals staff split the whole tray of juice on my husband and me...so we had to get our luggage off and they had to get us a room so we could change etc. and the nerve of one of the employees to tell us to calm down..i didn't pay $$$ that kind of money for that kind of service....Not to mention it is not save to leave the resort, we didn't even feel comfortable with a tour group. THIS IS NOT COMPARABLE to the Bahamas resort...an expensive holiday which was disappointing.....

there was some good things..the food was great and the Nurse on the resort was very helpful as i broke out with mosquito bites and some kind of rash all over my body!

“Sandals Montego Bay”

Sandals Montego Bay

My husband and I just returned from Sandals Montego Bay. Our trip was a Christmas gift to each other and couldn't have come at a better time! Before our trip, I read many mixed reviews about Montego Bay and even considered changing our reservations to another resort. We got married at Sandals, Negril, and were very impressed, so we decided to stick with Sandals.

The reason we chose the Montego Bay Sandals was proximity to the airport. Many of the other resorts require an 1 1/2 - 2 hr. (or more) ride from the airport. Since our trip was basically a long weekend, we decided to stick with Montego Bay. As mentioned in other reviews, MB is the oldest of the Sandals resorts. Yes, there are areas that need a bit of TLC or a coat of paint, but hey, so do things right here at home!

We had a Honeymoon Grande Luxe Beachfront Concierge Room for 3 nights. The room was clean, the concierge service was great, and thankfully everything in the room worked. The concierge service was wonderful in that they were constantly checking to see if they could book dinner, tours, or other activities on or off the resort. One of my favorite things about Sandals is that all employees from the grounds keepers to the management staff always greet you with a smile and are more than willing to go out of their way to make your stay pleasant.

As mentioned above, being close to the airport was an initial concern. Before you know it, you really don't even notice. I read one of the books in the room about the history of Sandals. When MBay was first built, the guests complained about the noise from the departing planes. The director at the time tried to make the best of the situation and suggested that every time a plane takes off, stop, wave and kiss the person next to you. The idea caught on. That explained why I kept seeing guests and employees waving every time a plane would leave. (Didn't see any kissing though! :) We met lots of great people from all over. This seems to be the best time of year to visit Jamaica. The fall months tend to be their "rainy season" and May is too hot to handle! The weather this time of year is PERFECT!

I would highly recommend booking flights and reservations through a travel agent. I saw several instances where people arrived and didn't have a room. In both cases, they made the reservations themselves. Our travel agent is wonderful in that travel and resort reservations are taken care of. All required documents arrived right at our door. All we had to do is show up! Overall, the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I've been told that once you visit Jamaica three times, you officially become a "Jamerican". :) Can't wait to go again!
