Just got back froom an 8 night vacation here. I did like the place. The food was excellent, and the wait staff should serve as an example for US restaurant workers. Check in was easy, there is a $100 deposit for a safe, which is normal. My advice is to avoid the towers - especially if your room is in close proximity to the large lobby. Our first night there we had to listen to loud (wall shaking) music until 11 pm. Not a welcome intrusion to some one who has been traveling most of the day. And there is live music every night in the lobby. Its actually quite good if you choose to listen to it. I thought the food was great, kind of carribean home cooked in the buffet. It can become repeatative if you are there for a while. The beach isn't great but it is usable. Bring water shoes - there are rocks and shells. The drinks are passable, only cheap liquor is available. The water park feature is 98% finished and is really cool. There is constant construction all around however, and it probably won't be done any time soon. In the Jamaican tradition, several projects are started, but not totally finished so there are always fixtures and wires and what ever not completely installed. Several large construction projects are currently underway. I think that they are renovating the rooms one by one so you may experience a lot of hammering and sawing next to your room. If you get married here, skip the carriage ride up the street, its not exactly romantic with trucks and cars racing all around you. I didn't get married here, but saw some who did. There is almost no local shopping. If you venture out, you will be relentlessly harrassed by locals selling mostly crap. And bring plenty to read, a USA today is $6.00 if its available. There are few other magazines for sale. This place has plenty of potential if it ever gets finished.
