“best vacation ever”

Hotel el Marinique

5 of 5 stars
New York, NY

It's a year later and we're still talking about this place. Every once in awhile I'll say to my girlfriend "I miss Jerry", and she smiles and knows that I'm talking about the old yellow hound who stood guard over the front drive and loved going for walks. And that I'm talking about the wonderful time we had on vacation at El Marinique. We loved everything about the place. Getting there may not be simple, but once you're there it is as relaxing and beautiful a place as you could want.

We started our days with Nicole's hearty breakfast and lots of coffee. Then headed off to any number of hiking spots or beaches. Andy knew everything there was to know about the area and how much we should pay for what, which was helpful. The easy access to Playa Rincon by boat was great. I've never been anywhere where there are 3 miles of completely undisturbed beach. We spent several days doing absolutely nothing, but lying on the beach and walking down to to outdoor "restaurants" at the far end of the beach for lunch.

At El Marinique we stayed in one of the apartments that had 2 floors with the bedroom upstairs and the kitchen, living room, dining room and bath downstairs. It was well furnished and had all the essentials. We enjoyed walkiing a few minutes to town for groceries and being able to make our own meals or coffee.

Just go. You won't be disappointed.

“Just beautiful”

We loved our stay at El Marinique and Las Galeras. Truly one of the most beautiful spots I've ever visited in the Caribbean. It was exactly what we were looking for. Our apartment (w/ fridge, stove and coffee maker) was quiet and clean. Nicole's breakfasts (included in our stay) were one of my favorite parts of the day. And Andy's Cuba Libre's too! The view from the patio is unobstructed and gorgeous, as was the view from our little balcony. I would recommend El Marinique to any couple (or family) looking for a peaceful, relaxed and quiet place to stay. Would love to come back one day!

“One of the best in the DR”

We would love to visit Andy and Nicole again. They provided the perfect setting for us to enjoy our first anniversary: Nicole's cooking, Andy's tales (and barbecue), the spacious cabin, the sunsets, the proximity to the beach, our hosts' warmth and sincerity - there is no end to the qualities I could list that made our stay, hands-down, the best vacation either of us have had.

I would return in a heartbeat. Be sure to go to Playa Rincon! It's just a short boat ride around the bend.

“nice small hotel”

just spent several nights at this great little hotel overlooking the beach. While some say it isn't "right" on the beach, this is far from a problem. It is exactly a 45 second walk down there. The 2 level apartment was very clean, comfortable and VERY quiet. We relaxed in their restaurant which has the best view as it's on it's own little bluff, overlooking the sea. Nicole gave us special treatment and cooked us whatever we requested. In fact, this is hardly like staying at a hotel at all. More like a B&B where you get the attention you deserve. Andy helped us with all our questions.
I would recommend el marinique to anyone staying in las galeras.
Why stay at an over priced hotel with hundreds of other turistas when you can stay at a small and delightful place with only a few other folks.
