“Excellent time with friends, OK stay at Majestic”

I want to give you the most objective review I can possibly give.

My wife and I went to the Majestic for a 5 day 4 night stay with best friends from college. I will give you a short review of the highlights for the Majestic.

1. Airport ride - first of all, just let the guys take your bags, if you dont they will pester you to death. The ride if you do a voucher will take longer than 30 minutes. It took us an hour, they stopped off at other resorts to drop off people from other resorts.

2. Check in - very smooth and fast. arrived at 4:30 so maybe it was a down time. The guy got us a room RIGHT next to our friends room. We were laughing cause he said it was the best he could do.

3. Food - sorry, but i will need to agree with other reviews...NOT good. The chinese/japanese place was OK - meat was good but the rice was gross. Buffet gets redundant for b-fast and lunch. Dinner we got sick from the salad at the seafood place. DONT eat the salad, they wash it with water. Dont drink tap water, heed to what everyone tells you.

4. Drinks - can NEVER get the coke or diet coke right. Always had too much syrup. EVERY resteraunt for the exception of maybe two places, you had to fight for bottled water...we didnt trust the stuff out of the pitcher. they say its bottled water poured in there, but even if it is, its still mixed with ice. Had a buddy who went to Excellence Punta Cana and he got a tape worm from the ice!!!!!

5. Pool - AWSOME! Loved this pool.

6. Room - Clean, had a must smell...just be smart like our friends and bring a renuzit or febreeze and you will be fine!

7. Beach - GORGEOUS

8. Excursions - Lady at the Marinia(sp?) who hands out snorkeling gear, etc... RUDE as can be. She has a gap in her teeth, you will know who she is. Lazy and runs the place on her own agenda. We wanted to snorkel for 10 minutes knowing it closed at 4, we showed up at 3:45. she said they were closed and then argued with us, etc... WHO does that?

9. Deep Sea Fishing - great time, lots of time on a boat though in the ocean that can make you very sick. My buddy caught a HUGE mahi mahi....dont believe them if they say you can keep it though.

10. Spa - Wife and friend got a facial, good price. I got a 30 minute massage on the beach...AWSOME. However, when i went to pay the bill, it said 85 bucks should have been 30. I reasoned with the guy at the front desk who had to bring in the lady from the spa. I signed for the 85, my signature was there, BUT i signed up for 50 and they say on the sheet 85 rsd not USD. they confuse you on purpose, trust me. THey have their tactics of trying to sneak one by you. The guys name at the front desk was Roberto, he said he trusted me what i was saying but still made me pay the full price when i said i CLEARLY had a 30 minute massage, not and 85 dollar one. The spa lady argued with me to at the front desk. I told them it was VERY simple. I have the money to pay you, you can charge me 50 or 85 its your choice....BUT you will either end someones trip on a good note or a bad one, your choice. They made me pay in full so i left pissed. I think anyone would when they say they trust you but had to bring the spa lady and couldnt make a MANAGERIAL decision to make a guest happy. Honestly, i am only one amongst many guests they deal with. But the internet is a great thing and can be their worst enemy if they keep on pissing off people like myself. It will bite you.

11. ALSO, the entertainment is good. We knew it would be low budget stuff, so dont expect broadway. If you do, then its your own loss. The MC was hilarious. Micheal Jackson show was the best. We also watched ideal couple last night. That was hilarious!!!!

I think that is it and should cover it all.

This is a bit late but better than never. I know that there have been glowing reviews lately so I hate to be a downer but I wasn't that impressed.

Grounds: I will agree without a doubt that the grounds of this resort are beautiful. The beach is great and I never had a problem finding chairs. No one will harass you unless you are bothered by the occasional topless women and children. The pools were great, again with ample chairs and no need to go out at the crack of dawn. Staff worked really hard to keep everyone entertained and were always very friendly and accommodating. If I could stay at the pool or beach and not have to eat or sleep then I would have no complaints.

Room: The beds had to be the most uncomfortable that I have every slept on. The room stayed humid so it always felt like everything was damp. We could never get the temperature right so we stayed cold and wet if that even makes sense. I think it's been mentioned before but be sure to bring your own wash cloth because you won't be able to get any without a fight. Not sure what the problem is but it took us a few days to get anything other than a hand or bath towel.

Food: I've been to countless all inclusive resorts and the food here had to be the worse. First it was totally ridiculous that for a few hours between lunch and dinner there was no where to eat. Each buffet served the exact same food day after day after day. The restaurants weren't much better and the service was often extremely slow.

Overall I would say if you can eat anything and sleep anywhere then this resort will be just fine. For some the shortcomings with the food and room will be justified by the beauty of the grounds- unfortunately I wasn't one of those people. I also didn't like that you couldn't really go anywhere outside the property on your own. We did a few excursions that were fun but there weren't very many options. I was there for 7 nights and after the 3rd night I was feeling a little too confined.

“Fantastic Staff”

I came here for a destination wedding. The trip started out a bit bumpy with the hotel being overbooked and 17 of us having to transfer to a neighboring resort. That was not a fun time as we wasted basically two days between the transfer. That being said, upon our arrival the next day back to the resort, we were greated with premium upgrades and a kind and very helpful staff including upper management. We were given 30 minute massages, horseback riding, internet and room service, all things not included in our original packages due to the unfortunate circumstances.

Although I came with a group, I did spend most of my time alone and I found the staff to be absolutely wonderful, particularly the animation staff. Whether they were truly happy or not, I'm not 100% sure, but they ALWAYS had a smile on their faces, and were friendly, engaging, and quite interactive. I made friends with them quickly during their morning beach activities as they are very quick to encourage participation, and while persistent, they are also understanding if you'd just like to be left to your reading or lying on the beach. Talk to any of them more than once and they will recognize you walking down the hallways and reach out a friendly handshake or hug. Speak a little spanish and you have a friend for the duration of your stay. Bartenders were the same way...a small tip goes a long way and they remember who you are. I had plenty of the staff saying "hola amiga" by the end of my stay.

I enjoyed the entertainment at night and the animation team being at the discoteque to practice all of the dance steps you may have learned by the pool earlier that day.

There is only one swim up bar, but to compensate there are a large number of staff waiting poolside to take your order need be.

I would go back to this resort for the animation team staff alone.

“Loved the Majestic!”

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

5 of 5 stars

I have to say that the Majestic Colonial is a fantastic resort to stay at! It was almost impossible for me to leave after 12 wonderful days there. The weather was beautiful, it did rain almost everyday that we were there but, it didn't spoil our vacation. For months prior to my trip I was reading the reviews of other people who had stayed there and for the life of me, I don't understand how you could give a bad review. My husband and I have stayed at other resorts in Punta Cana as well as Jamaica and this is definitely one of the top three favorites. The other two are Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica and Sunscape in Punta Cana. We arrived at the Majestic on April 23, 2008 around 5 pm. Check in went very smoothly and Janet was kind enough to walk us to our room. The room was beautiful! I couldn't have asked for a better room. It was located exactly where my husband and I wanted to be, close the beach and the pool bar. We stayed in room 2240 and if you can, stay in that room! The view was of the pool bar, ocean and the spa. We could watch the water aerobics and the pool volleyball from our balcony. There were only a few things that I will mention that the hotel needs to do: (1) If the pool could stay open till 8:00 p.m. that would be nice, 6 is kind of early especially on the day that we arrived because once we got unpacked, we put on our suits and headed for the pool only to be asked to get out because it was closed. Now, I did speak with Victor about this and for guest safety reasons, they prefer closing the pool early. While I do agree and understand, I think perhaps 7:00 p.m. would be a happy medium, (2) we didn’t have any face cloths (wash cloths) in our room. Not a huge deal because I had brought one and once I mentioned it to housekeeping, I had one everyday for the remainder of my stay.

The staff at the Majestic were very accommodating. Whatever we needed, we had. Of course I did leave little gifts bags for the cleaning service everyday as well as small tips for the staff replenishing the mini bar/fridge which went a long way and I believe that did help with things. They would leave us fruit and cheese plates as well as champagne and all the Pepsi and bottled water we wanted.

Another couple from back home joined us on the vacation/stay at the Majestic on the 25th of April. They were on their honeymoon and they also received a royal treatment. I’m sure that they have posted a review as well.

What can I say about the food………..FANTASTIC! I wish I could have packed the omelet makers into my suitcase when I left because I had the best omelets for breakfast every day! The main buffet was great. We ate breakfast there every morning pretty much every day for lunch. 2 or 3 times we ate at the buffet which was closer to the beach but it just didn’t have the variety that the other had. The food was all very good, just not the same as the main buffet which I think I was spoiled on. We ate the Mexican restaurant one night and that was alright. My husband isn’t a fan of Mexican but he agreed to try it. The Steakhouse was DELICIOUS! The first time there I had the chateaubriand and my husband had a sirloin. His was ok but mine was delicious. The 2nd, 3rd & 4th times we ate there, we had the Churrusco and it was great! Perfectly cooked! We also ate at the seafood restaurant one night even though my husband hates seafood and the manager was kind enough to give him a churrusco steak instead for dinner. It was great! It was always tough to decide each night whether to go to the main buffet or the steak house.

My days comprised of mornings on the beach and afternoons in the pool. Hey baby, hey baby, mucho gasolina. Never a shortage on rum at the pool bar. We had lots of fun at the pool bar especially when the toys came out. Our friend, better known as “Pool Toys” brought all kinds of fun toys for the pool which made for a lot entertainment and made for a great way to meet new people.

Pablo – an awesome bartender who took care of us anytime that we were drinking in the upstairs lobby bar. The drinks were always great. I especially liked the way he made the Dirty Monkeys…………I have got to get the recipe for those!

The animation team was also really good. They definitely put in long hours to keep people entertained! We went to the Michael Jackson show and I really enjoyed it. The magic show was alright and we attended the Men vs. Women night and that was a really good time.

The resort was so beautiful and relaxing, we never really left it. We didn’t bother doing any of the excursions or trips. We did take a taxi to Steve’s corner bar where we had a drink or two and we did some shopping at the Bavaro Shopping Plaza. What an experience that was! We were looking at some of the artwork when the salesman picked up a large picture for us to see up close and there was a very large, tarantula looking spider (which was very much alive), hanging on the picture. My girlfriend and I were definitely spooked by that and the salesman was kind enough to dispose of the spider outside. Whew! It was big and ugly!

All in all, we had a great time at the Majestic and we are looking forward to going back again in a year or two. I’ve uploaded some photos to share, feel free to email me any questions or if you'd like to see more pictures, send me your email and I will share more them with you.

Stay at the Majestic, you won’t be sorry!

My thanks to Richard, Victor and the entire Majestic staff for making our stay a wonderful one!

“Great Vacation”

My husband and I stayed May 3rd -10th. I was nervous about the whole food situation and negative reviews but I am happy to say our stay was great. When we checked in we were put in room 1134 on the ground floor that overlooked the resort next door. I told them that I wanted building 2 or 3 and they said they could move us the next day. We ended up in room 3320 in building 3 which was on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool. It was a great location. Building 2 also overlooks the pool but it is almost on top of the pool area as where 3 was set back so you didnt get all the hustle and bustle but still had a great view. They only negative was that the bathroom area had really little black bugs running around. I just didnt leave my stuff out around the sink area that I like to do so I had to keep going in and out of my suitcase. The bathroom stall was kinda small and like everyone has said not a lot of privacy. Fine for a married couple. The shower was huge and could hold about 4 people.

They had left us a couple of bottles of wine in the room when we arrived off the beach on various days. They also left sushi and something else we arent sure what is was.

The beach and pool were amazing. Beautiful sand and water. The pool was huge and ran all thru the resort . Even thought they were booked to capacity it never felt crowed. Always chairs and loungers. Do go out early though if you like to get a shaded hut. Those go fast. The weather was sunny and hot everday. We had 1 hour of rain our first day and that was it. If you walk down the beach to the right about 45 minutes there are outdoor shops that sell T shirts, paintings, and other stuff. We didnt realize it would be that far but the walk goes by fast. They also had vendors that came to the hotel one night and set up their tables. Mostly jewlery. I got a nice necklace for $9.

The food: We were extra cautious about what we ate and we were fine. The Gormet restaurant was excellent as was the seafood (we had the shrimp, and red snapper) and steak place (we had the chatueabriond) . Never had to wait for a table and the service was pretty good. We never ate at the mexican because I dont like that type of food. The breakfast buffet had everything you could want. We ate at the main buffet for lunch because the outdoor one had flies and we liked getting into the aircondtioning off the beach. I ate mostly pasta and pizza. They had all kinds of dishes and I can see how people could easily get sick. Stick to what you know and what looks good and you should be fine. We also ate at the Japanese. It was just OK but a lot of food. You need to make reservations for the Gormet and Japanese as soon as you get to the hotel or you may not get one.

Entertainment was good. Eveynight at 10:00 they had shows. The Michael Jackson show was good as was the acrobat show. They also had audience participation games that were really funny. We didnt go to the casino or disco. After a full day at the beach and nightime entertainment we were ready for bed at 11:00.

We decided to splurge and go to the spa. We had what they call the Chocolate Dream. They wrap you in chocolate and then after thats done and you rinse off they give you a full body massage. It was great. Ask for Eileen. She was awsome at the massage. My husbad was in heaven.

All in all it was a great relaxing vacation. Dont worry about the negative reviews like I did. All the worrying was not worth it. You'll have a great time.
