“Awesome trip!”

Sirenis Tropical Suites

May 7, 2008
3/4 found this review helpful

A few friends and I stayed at the Sirenis Tropical Resorts from April 26 to May 4, 2008.. I must say we had an amazing time and zero complaints about this Resort, and would definitely go back. The weather was awesome, rained at night a couple times and one rainy day but other than that it was hot and sunny....

Resort:
The resort is worth the ratings it was given, I find that some people are just too picky and expect big things when they few big ratings and set their mind to high. It was kept really clean by the yard maintenance crew and the maids, the maids were very friendly and did an excellent job. The resort is split into two Resorts, The Tropical Resorts and the Cocotal Resorts. They are virtually the same resort just the Tropical had nice little Villas and the Cocotal had more 3 story Hotels. Nothing seperated them, you could wander on either side for the buffets or the daily events.

Rooms:
We stayed at the Tropical Resorts and got rooms in one of the villas; it was very neat and clean when we arrived. The bathroom had a big counter and mirror along with a shower and a cubby hole toilet. We also had a tv room with a couch and chair that led to a balcony, the same balcony had an entrance from the bedroom which had a big ceiling fan and huge closet. Everything worked great, had no problems at all with the rooms.

Pool:
The pool is huge, 2 swim up bars and lots of space to really swim or play around. It spread in twists and turns along with depths from the Tropical side to the Cocotal side. The water games were played on the Cocotal side in the bigger shallow end area, other than that both sides were the same. Sloped entrances, lounging pool area, little ledge with about 6 inches of water to sit and relax or even lay down. The even had a 2 foot deep kiddie pool for the little ones.

Beach:
The pool and Beach are practically beside each other, only seperation is a little 2 foot rock wall. The beach was very nice with lots of huts and loungers to choose from. There were usually a few huts available around 10am still but they were not the prime location huts; loungers were always available. The ocean was fantastic, very clean and calm with a few schools of fish swimming around.

Excursions:
Shhhhhhh... We didn't do any paid excursions with the resort, we went off resort to have some fun. When your looking at the ocean, look to your left and there is usually a parasailing chute and an ATV parked on the beach with signs. That is my friend Ramon's office; consisted of a patio table and pictures but thats all he needed. He is a really good guy and is always looking to make sure you have a great time which we did! Awesome time and would go back for sure. We went horseback riding twice, ATVing once and Parasailing once; he was generally half price or a little bit more under the resorts prices. Horseback riding was $25 for 2 hours, went through the palm trees and some side streets and on the beach; one thing you can't do with the resort horses is gallop, we did some galloping and it was a blast. They take pictures of you on the beach with your cameras and try to give you the best time possible. ATVing was a 3 hour tour through countryside, by the river, through a nearby city, farmlands and even on the beach to let it rip.. Parasailing was about 20 mins in the air along the coast. All of it was worth the cost and I urge everyone to go see this man and have some fun. He cares that you have fun and that everything is safe.

Things we did do on the resort were kayaking, scuba lessons and tennis along with some daily activities.

Tips:
Based on advise we were given we gave tips to the maids daily. The tips can consists of money, hygeine products, school supplies, etc... Also if you tip the bartenders you get great service. When you go make sure you meet Kelvim, great bartender and loves his job. By the end of the week I would be relaxing in the pool halfway done my drink and he would call me and point at another drink waiting for me, haha.. I didn't even tip him yet but we did talk and exchanged names ect; a little respect goes along way.

oh ya FOOD:

WAS EXCELLENT! Lots of variety and lots to choose from. The buffets always had a different selection of food and most of it was really good to everyone in our group. Like some things were the same but not at the same time; take potatoes for example, one day you get hashbrowns the next its mashed and then boiled with seasoning... Tons of variety and alot of good food. TRY THINGS and enjoy. Buffet breakfast was the best of all meals and the OMELET guy was great, amazing omelets.

For A La Cartes, we went to Italian, Mexican and Steakhouse, they were all good and very dress casual which was nice.

Hope I helped you out with your decision and enjoy your trip!

Don't forget to see Ramon! He's waiting

“Very Very Very nice Resort”

Sirenis Tropical Suites

4 of 5 stars

Price - Very good compared to other resorts.

Airport Transfer - Sure roads weren't the best, however our driver was excellent. Very enjoyable drive to the resort. Buddy will try to sell you a beer for $5.00, I suggest you wait until you get to the resort, where it is FREE...

Check In - very smooth and accomodating. Hint get your safe key upon check in. You will have to pay a $3.00 per day rental and a $50.00 deposit. totaling $71.00 per 7 days. Put it on a credit card to save your cash.

Room - Nice, nothing fancy , clean comfortable and a good size. We had ocean view. Building M 105 on the Tropical side. Beware of the shower head. Make sure it is pointed to the tub before you turn it on. If you have a small cheap clock radio bring it, there are none in the rooms. We passed ours on to a couple from England who were there for the next couple of weeks. Have a small ext cord if you need to charge cameras, phones, laptops etc.. the wall plugs are built in such a way that the large plug ins don't fit. Regular cords do.

Beach - Great. I've been to a few resorts and this was the best for finding a spot on the beach. A good number of huts , most are low to the ground. Tons of loungers... more than enough. I really can't see why some people complain. I suggest you make yourself happy, don't waste your time worrying about other people hoarding chairs etc.. make the most your 7 days... To the north (left) is the Excellence Resort 15 minutes walk. To the south (right) is the Dreams and Colony Bay Resorts 45 min walk.

Food - Everywhere... Not the best of the best but I can't see how you can lose weight after 7 days. We were pleased with the selections. For the A-la-cartes we did them all. Oriental Jade great for the entertainment value alone. I had a suprisingly great steak at the Steak house, Mexicn food was good, Seafood was good, Italian was very nice, I even enjoyed the Vegetarian. There are three areas to book your A-la-cartes, we never had to wait that long. Book the Jade first... you can book up to three days in advance. If you are with another couple, book one Rest for 4 people under one room then another Rest for 4 people under the other room...

Bars - All over the place. But I think the last free drinks are at 01:00 AM. If you are gambling in the casino the drinks are free, It may be open until 03:00, and the disco is open until 2:00 AM I think, but you pay for your drinks there. Hardly ever much of a line up if any to get a drink.

Resort - Nice and secluded away from the main cluster as they are down on the Bavaro beach. Sometimes you have to pay extra for excursions because of the extra travel time. NO TIME SHARE PEOPLE (Promoters) here ... Yahoo !!!!!! ... we spent two weeks at the Occidental Grand Flamenco Resort in Punta Cana in February of this year and they were a Pain in the BUTT.. Very relaxing walk to and from the main buffets without being hounded to attend presentations etc...

Entertainment - similar to other resorts. We went most nights.

Tips - at the airports or with the Hotel bellboy, as a rule $1 per suitcase. We tiped $1 for most breakfast and lunches. More at the A-la-cartes $3 to $6. The bar staff we would tip $1 every third trip to the bar or $1 to the girls waitressing. Don't forget the pool bar staff , hard for them to get tips as most people only have baithing suits on when drinking in the pool.

Overall - Lots of very friendly staff - A good number of english speaking staff. Avoid the shops out in front of the resort main entrance. Dicker with any vendor. We were able to make most purchases for approx 25% of the original price. The Twin brothers Raoul and Paul next to the resort have good ATV trip prices.
Not may sand fleas
Bring items for the gardners, they wear green shirts and pants. The maids are dragging bags of gifts they receive everyday, so I suggest you share with the gardners. I brought pliers, emergency candle packs, insulated mugs, etc.. any type of tool would be appreciated, they have families too. I was always bringing them a bottle of water. I suggest you print off some notes saying " This is a gift to you from Mr and Mrs Smith room Tropical M 105 " and date it. They need something to show security when leaving the resort. If not the probably won't be able to take it with them.
For Wake up calls - go to the front desk in person to have a wake up call written up in the "Wake Up Call Binder". Don't bother calling it in.

This is a Very good 4 Star , a 4 1/2 at times.

“Nothing to complain about! AMAZING!”

I stayed here from April 26-May 4th and this resort is absolutely amazing. I honestly can say I had nothing to complain about. Food: buffet was awesome, great variety, you have the choice to eat at any of the 3 buffets for lunch. The a la carte restaraunts were amazing, I went in a group of 6 (3 rooms) so we got to take advantage of 3 reservations instead of 2, we could have done 6 but decided not to. If you don't want to leave your room, room service is available from 12-10:30 everyday. Rooms: were great! clean, air conditioning ran steady all day long, very spacious, great washrooms, maid service was amazing. Pool and Beach: Both were amazing, we never had a problem getting a hut or loungers, even with 6 of us. Swim up bar is amazing, they kept the drinks coming all day long. Tips: As you may have already heard, tips can go a LONG way. I never stopped tipping and the service was GREAT. They kept the drinks flowing at the bar and we sat at the same table for all 3 meals and drinks were memorized and brought before even asking for them. You already spent a bunch of money to get there, so a few extra dollar bills won't kill you for some extra service. All in all a trip to remember and will probably be returning again next year.

The real reason I came to leave this review is to tell you about TWIN BROTHERS EXCURSIONS PAUL AND RAMON. If you go down to the beach and walk down to your left you will stumble upon a little table with a bright red Quad parked right beside it. I have read about him on here and went to look for him. Not like many of the other dominican excursion sellers or gift shop sellers he wasn't pushy at ALL. He tells you what he's got and if you want to choose him, it's up to you. He speaks perfect english and is very accomidating. He gives you the best prices, service and equipment. We went on 4 excursions. First we went horse back riding through the palm forest, through the city, back down to the beach and down to the peak of the island. This isn't like other trail rides, the horses don't just follow eachother and being an experienced rider, I was very impressed with their training and obedience, we got to walk, trot, canter and gallop, the whole 9 yards. It was so fun, I did it twice. Each ride was only suppose to be an hour but the tour guide took us for about an hour and a half every ride. The third excursion we did was parasailing. Ramon gave us the best deal and made sure we had the best time. Our original date was posponed because there wasn't enough wind and Ramone wanted to be sure we had a good time so he said it would be better to wait until the next morning. It was a good idea on his behalf becase it was the best experience of my life. The captain of the boat was great, I felt very safe and he had so much control. He brought us up then dipped us in the ocean then lifted us back up, it was great. The next day we had our Quad tripped booked for the afternoon. When we walked up his way, we saw all 6 shiny red quads lined up ready to go. We hopped on and started our 2 and a half (ended up being 3 hour) ride into the forrest, mountains, country side and city. When going through the city the kids try to catch you and ask for money pr candy but just wave, if you give candy or money to 1, you will get attacked by a swarm of them. Once again you had total freedom to go as fast as you want or as slow as you want to take photos. The tour guides on this excursion were also very good. All my trips were private so it was much more fun. So if your looking for a good time for a good price go see TWIN BROTHERS PAUL AND RAMONE they offer the best price, service and equipment. DO NOT buy excursions from the people on the resort and by the pool as they are over priced and often not safe. Tell Ramone David says hi (he often called me DAVEED)

“Excellent Value”

Sirenis Tropical Suites

May 2, 2008
2/2 found this review helpful

The High Points:

1) Beautiful grounds; lush, well tended gardens, very clean

2) Exquisite beach

3) Good food

4) Great drinks

5) Pleasant and attentive staff

The Not So High Points:

1) VERY hard beds

2) Mediocre (at best) air conditioning

3) Stiff competition for shade at both the pool and beach (Get before 6:00 am to reserve)

4) Long ride from airport on very poor road

The resort is large so be prepared to do a considerable amount of walking. This resort would not be suitable for those with mobility challenges. The a la carte reservation system is a bit wonky (line ups 2 x per day) but the restaurants were all good so its worth your time to line up. Our group liked the Japanese and Mexican best. but the Italian and Steakhouse were also good.

Service was very good irrespective of whether or not you tipped the staff. Little things could be improved - there are more restrooms needed at the beach on the Tropical side. The air conditioning could also be improved.

Overall, this resort offers excellent value.

“Sirenis is brilliant!!!”

Never been all inclusive nor to Dominican before, but Sirenis was brilliant.

Staff are very pleasant and can't do enough for you. They're all so happy!! Grounds were gorgeous, beach was like it was out of a picture postcard, food and drinks were amazing and the place was really spotless. Choice of mexican, italian, japanese, american, dominican etc food through a choice of different restaurants you could book into on site, or just two huge buffet restaurants serving continental food. All really, really great food.

Lots of nighttime entertainment too, plus a outdoor theatre and disco on site which was funny!! Did 3 trips....helicopter trip (astounding!!), swam with sharks and stingrays (amazing!!) and went over to Saona Island (DEFINITELY recommend it).

Would go back tomorrow if I could, definitely going back next year. Is the sort of place where you could feel really safe on your own as well.

ONE IMPORTANT THING: Book with Thomson or a proper tour operator....we booked through a smaller website and ended up with HOLA TOURS (Dominican based) who were bloody awful, didn't arrange any of our pre-paid airport transfers (stranded at the airport isn't nice!), and left it five days to even say hello and tell us to book all trips through them (hello? we'd already done 2!!). Absolutely rubbish.

Thomson took us under their wing, their Thomson Sirenis Rep CARLY deserves a gold medal and to win the lottery, she's totally fantastic. Don't know what we'd have done without her!
