The review is bad and it is good. Actually the place is charming, but frankly speaking it has a lot of problems.
The staff mostly very nice but no little english if you need it and one guy with zero personality and a bit of attitude, which was the night watchman. Of course you do not have a key to get in the main door and must ring the bell every time to enter. This is a little questionable in itself, as you might be standing on the street at 2 AM waiting for someone to open the door, not exactly safe. The food was quite excellent, nice fresh fruit and eggs for breakfast, some tasty fish for dinner but the dinning area open to outside (nice ambiance/bad with flies). The room basic but generally OK, cable TV if you watch, internet (not free btw US $10/day) was very slow. Also the general expectation should be that of a 500 year old place, the water flow iffy, the tylical power thing of the D.R. sometimes on, sometimes off but if off the generator is quite noisy. One really irritating thing, they seem to have rented the common area out for some video production and a lot of noise, film crews, and comotion all weekend (supposedly a one time thing).
Otherwise, right in the Colonial Zone, very convenient for walking about, many good restaurants nearby, discos, and El Conde the pedestrian street.
I would stay again, but will demand a lower rate because at $75 it is over priced. Oh... bring a guest and that is another $40.
