Just the odd problem:
1. Money got stolen from us at the hotel
2. Everything including the toilet in our bathroom was broken.
3. Shower/bath flooded at every use. When we mopped up with towels and the cleaning lady came, she didn't want to replace the towels until we'd had a fight about it.
4. The food was disgusting. I don't know where you people ate or where you normally eat but even when we asked the waiters at the hotel, even they said they wouldn't eat what they were serving!
5. The tables in the room were sticky (before we arrived) and despite cleaning by day 2 covered in ants and cockroaches.
6. The air conditioning pumped a mouldy, I say mouldy when I really mean dead rotting cat, smell into the room.
7. The front desk refused to move us as the hotel was apparently full.
8. My partner became ill due to the air conditioning (the Cuban doctor and nurse told us this). It took the doctor 9 hours to come and see her and when he did he told us she had probably contracted legionnaire's disease. For those of you unfamiliar with it, symptoms include: Patients usually have fever, chills, and a cough, which may be dry or may produce sputum. Some patients also have muscle aches, headache, tiredness, loss of appetite, loss of coordination (ataxia), and occasionally diarrhea and vomiting. It can lead to death. She has since spent two weeks off work and has repeatedly needed to see a doctor and have continuous tests and even six weeks later is still not back to full health.
I'm not saying don't go to Cuba. The country is magnificent and the people, when they can be bothered, are friendly. Cuba has a rich heritage and should certainly be experienced. I would however make sure that you prepare and protect yourself. Most importantly however it is probably unwise to stay at the Brisas Del Caribe.
