“Had a great experience in a traditional Japanese room”

This was our first hotel on a trip to Japan and it set a very high standard. We stayed in one of the traditional Japanese rooms with futons on tatami floors and it was beautifully appointed. This is a good way to accommodate a family of four. Probably the best service I ever had at any hotel, anywhere. After a late night of sightseeing the guy at the desk told us he'd like us to move to a larger room. The night staff''s English isn't as good as that of the daytime crew, so I couldn't figure out why they upgraded us. We found out later that housekeeping discovered a leaky faucet -- not acceptable to this outfit. We got a comp for a free drink in the lounge and when I went to use it, the woman at the bar dressed in a beautiful kimono presented it to me graciously, then slowly and respectfully bowed. Never had a gin and tonic like that before. It is a brief walk (they have a shuttle if you need it) to Shinegawa station, which gives you easy access to most of the top tourist areas on the Yamonote line (it is part of JR, so you can use the weekly pass on it as you would any other JR train). We also stayed at the Prince Hotel in Hiroshima and likewise had a great experience there, so this is probably a great hotel company. And the price was very reasonable. Highly recommended.

“Big basic hotel with a convenient location”

Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa

Price and location were our key considerations when booking a hotel in Tokyo. Grand Prince Takanawa (not to be confused with Grand Prince NEW Takanawa next door) definitely fit the bill. It is the second stop if you are coming in from the Narita airport shuttle bus (about a 90 minute ride).

Our room was upgraded at no cost from the standard room we had requested. The room was spotlessly clean, with one of those delightful shower toilets outfitted in the bathroom. We also had a mini-fridge and TV, although the only English channels were CNN and BBC. I'd describe the accommodations as a big, basic business hotel. The staff was helpful and plentiful, and most could speak at least some English. Free internet is available in the lobby, although with only three stations, the computers were often occupied.

Grand Prince Takanawa is located on a hill, part of a complex of Grand Prince hotels. The buildings are connected by a nice park with paths, koi pond, tea house and restaurant. There is also a pool but it seemed to be closed when we were there. It's about a ten minute walk uphill from the Shinagawa subway station, conveniently on one of the main lines. There's a handy 7-11 nearby as well. Grand Prince seems to be located in a business district, so there are restaurants and malls but it's not really a nightlife area.

Overall, Grand Prince Takanawa is a clean, convenient, and affordable hotel for tourists and business people visiting Tokyo!

“convenient hotel”

On a family trip to Tokyo we stayed at Takanawa Prince Hotel. I had stayed at the New Takanawa Prince Hotel 13 years ago. The location is great, a 5 minute walk to Shinagawa train station (JR line or Shinkansen) or a 5 min walk to Takanawadai TOEI subway station. I had to book two rooms for a family of four. The room was adequately sized for two people and was very clean and comfortable. We got a room on 14th floor with gorgeous views of Tokyo and Tokyo tower. There is a stunning garden on the hotel grounds with a koi pond, sakura trees and a Japanese maple tree. The staff speak English although repetition may be necessary to get the information required. The reservation desk helped us to make a tour reservation to Mt. Fuji and everything worked out well. The woman at the desk spoke English quite well and was ready with all of the information we needed. There is a business center on the lobby level with free internet access and printing at 105 yen per page. We also paid for internet access in our room at a standard 1000 yen per day fee. We ate at the Patio restaurant one evening. It is convenient, the food was acceptable. Prices are more than what you would pay outside the hotel, but then that is to be expected. The atmosphere is casual and it was a great place to go with kids after a long tour day. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel as a great place to stay.

We booked this hotel as a four day base to start out Japanese vacation....We wanted to go to the top of Mount Fuji and you leave from Tokyo so we booked here and were not disapointed...Left Tokyo to Kyoto useing the Shinkansen very simple .....

Very beautiful gardens as you will see in the picture ponds of koi and beautiful trees all over... Staff and service was very good here and this hotel was close to many small Japanese restarants near by....

Yahoo internet cafe nearby where if you buy a drink....coffee, pop ect...you can use the laptops for free.....

Rooms were very large and clean we had a minor earthquack the first hour that we arrived a welcome to Japan....

Toured the country useing the Shinkansen and loved Japan....
