“My Favorite Hotel in Tokyo”

Park Hotel Tokyo

5 of 5 stars
Tokyo, Japan

My current favorite hotel in Tokyo. I've had the pleasure of three visits so far. There is no better balance of value for cost out there. If the location suits your needs, then you must stay here. Having said that, I can't comment on the restaurants or bar, as I rarely use those facilities in the hotels that I stay in. The plus side is that there is plenty of choice within a minutes walk. Truly one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in, in a hotel. Great selection of linens and attention to such seemingly minor, but important details are found throughout.

“Close to Perfect Hotel”

We stayed for 2 nights in Mid-May 2008. From the Narita airport, we took the Airport Express (about 40 minutes) and then changed to the metro which took us to Shimbashi station. It was only a few minutes walk (completely underground) to our hotel. The hotel staff was indescribably professional. The entire hotel, including our room, was spotless. The decor was very modern. The room was on the small side, but it was what I expected in Tokyo! The bathroom had all new appliances and was very clean. The toilet even had a bidet. We were able to access the subway that was just below the building, so we were able to go everywhere in Japan for just a few bucks on the metro. In the evening, we had drinks in the lobby in cushy modern seats while listening to a live jazz band. My only complaint was the breakfast in the hotel. Our stay did not include breakfast, so we paid for it out of pocket at $25USD per person, and it wasn't very good at all. Not much of a selection at too high of a price. However, we discovered that at the building across from the Shiodome Media Tower (which is where the hotel is), there is another building that has tons of affordable restaurantes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Finally, on our last day, the hotel arranged an Airport Limo to take us to Narita. It costs $30USD per person, but it was worth the convenience. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel, and I plan to stay there again on my next trip to Tokyo.

“Outstanding”

Park Hotel Tokyo

Booked via Designs Hotel site for the best rate at the time. Agree with most other reviewers...great hotel and fantastic value for money in a city where hotels are expensive.

Very minor points: They could use another computer or two for internet access as the supply frequently outstripped the demand.

Initially, the hotel can be a bit tricky to find. If you have a couple of large bags you may wish to consider either the airport express bus direct to the hotel, or take a cab from Tokyo station.

Loved the Park and would definately recommend to friends and would come back again.

“Enjoyed our seven night stay”

Park Hotel Tokyo

We booked the Park Hotel, Tokyo from the reviews we read on Trip Advisor and we made our booking through Agoda.com as they had very competitive rates and we were able to speak to a representative on-line with any questions. We had booked a Premium Twin room (33 sq) for seven nights and it was a fantastic room with very firm comfortable beds. The bathroom was amazing with a heated toilet, wonderful shower and toiletries that were replaced every day.

The staff were a credit to the hotel, every staff member, and there were plenty, were helpful and spoke English. They were able to direct us to the correct train line and advise us of areas around us that were worth traveling to. We have read previous reviews that mentioned the staff were a bit offhand to casually dressed guests but we did not find any staff that were like that. We were wished good morning and good night every time we passed reception.

There is a business centre right beside reception with two computers that are free for hotel guests to use. You cannot book a time on them but there was not often that you had to wait long. Most guests were accommodating and when they saw you were waiting they finished using the computer in a couple of minutes. Of course the time when you really needed it to book your seats on your flight that was when the rudest guests would not let you use them even when you had explained why you needed them – nothing to do with the hotel mind you but just a hint - if you need it at a certain time I would head down there about half an hour earlier.

We found the map on the hotel website was fairly easy to follow but you must make sure that you turn right directly after the ampm convenience store and then follow the large signs that have Park Hotel marked on them. We used the train station every day and we purchased a Suica card from the machines at Shimbashi Station. I have attached a picture of the screen to my review). Make sure you touch the English picture and then touch the green Suica Card picture on the bottom right of the screen (the left My Suica white picture requires you to fill in your name and other details that are not necessary). We decided not to purchase a JR Rail Pass here in Australia before we left as we were not traveling down to Kyoto, Kobe or anywhere out of Tokyo so we couldn’t see the value of paying 28,000yen $280AU that we would use anything like that on local trains. Our Suica card cost us 2,000 yen ($20AU) and covered us for the eight days.

There are so many eateries around the area and especially in the large buildings around the Shiodome Media Tower. We found a wonderful Japanese restaurant in the Tokyo Shiodome Building. Come out of the Shiodome Media Tower on the 3rd level and walk right past the Subway café. (Just as you enter the building there is also a nice breakfast café there). You then come to Level 2F of the Tokyo Shiodome Building (Pedi Shiodome it appears to be called). Stay on that level and walk right to the end of the level. The restaurant is called Ootoya and it is frequented by business people and locals before they head home. It was ALWAYS busy which shows just how good it is. We were able to have a main meal with rice (two of us) for a total of 1,700 yen. The first night we went to a pasta restaurant and spent 1,700 each on a main course. It is not just that the price is good at Ootoya it was the food that was excellent, there was always locals eating and some of the staff did understand a little English.

On our walks to the Shimbashi station we would sometimes stop in for a French cake from Vie de France, a wonderful bakery. Something that we thought was strange, we called into three Banks to change large notes into smaller notes but none were ‘banks’ as such. Apparently you have to go to the Post Office form something like that.

We would recommend the Park Hotel, Tokyo as we really enjoyed our stay.

Staff is excellent and no problem conversing in English. The room is smaller than most U.S. hotel but very nice. Very clean room & bathroom. Includes slippers & robes and green tea.
