“Fine hotel, not blown away though”

Park Hotel Tokyo

Based on review from Trip Advisor, we booked 4 nights in the Park Hotel for April. The view from the room was great. Free internet was nice. The room was a bit smaller than I would have expected but it worked.

Unfortunately the metro station in the building isn't a very useful one. It's on the Oedo line which doesn't go to many touristy places and it's not a quick connection to get to a more useful line. 95% of the time we ended up walking to Shimbashi station which is on the Ginza line. It's about a 10 minute walk from the hotel but involves using highway overpasses and crosswalks that go across 6 lane roads which can take a while. If you're caught in the rain, it's not a fun walk. Plus getting into the hotel isn't always straight forward. The raised entrance from the highway overpass and JR station closes at night which can be annoying. Also you have to take two elevators to get to your hotel room. One to get to the lobby on the 25th floor, and another to your room. Not really something you look forward to after a really long day; and the elevators are really slow.

The restaurants in the hotel were grossly expensive, but this isn't a deficiency unique to this hotel.

If you take an elevator from the lobby to the basement level you can get right to the Shidome metro station on the Oedo line. In the basement there are also a bunch of smaller restaurants that are reasonably priced. You can walk past them and outside to get to a FamilyMart (ubiquitous convenience store in Japan).

All in all I'd say the hotel itself was fine. Really nothing special. Next time I'm in Tokyo I'll be looking for something with a better location; both for walking and for using the metro.

“Outrageous view; perfectly located”

Booked based on TA reviews and we weren't let down! We received an adorable room with an outrageous view of the Tokyo Tower. We slept with the windows open both nights to admire the view. The hotel described the walk to the hotel as 7 min. but it was a good 15 for us with large luggage in tow. Using the hotel's provided maps and directions the property was very easy to find from the JR Yamanote Shimbashi station. Check-in was a breeze. The room size was slightly small but perfectly sized for our needs. The room was very modern and the bathroom decked out with a fancy toilet with all the bells and whistles. A TON of nice toiletry/spa amenities available. For a 2 day stay in Tokyo the hotel couldn't be better located. We were within short walking distance to the Tsukiji Fish Market and Hama Rikyu Garden. Additionally the JR Yamanote line gave us great access to the Shibuya/Harajuku/Shinjuku areas. The hotel staff didn't have a great range of English, but they did go above the call of duty in one case. I bought an int'l/domestic calling card from the lobby and tried to make a call to a local cell using the card but upon help from the concierge I learned the card I bought couldn't call local cells in Japan. He was kind enough to let me use his cell phone to call my friend - a huge help. Just a note that most US cell phones don't work in Japan as apparently they are on a different network. We had a 9am flight to Beijing on our final morning and the concierge wasn't really able to help us arrange travel to the airport other than recommending the T-CAT since the airport limo bus did not run early enough for us to get to the airport by 7am - again, lost in translation. Upon recommendation from our friend we were able to take the JR Yamanote to the Keisei line at Akihabara and make it to the airport in under an hour. Thanks to all for the great feedback - this hotel was an awesome find!

“Lovely hotel but cold and unfriendly staff”

Park Hotel Tokyo

Apr 28, 2008

First - the good points...
The view from the rooms is STUNNING! on many occasions, we would get breakfast from a nearby cafe and bring it back to the room so we could sit by the window and just look out at the buildings and trains below.
It really isn't a huge problem to find this hotel - I took a taxi from Tokyo station the first time and it was only a short drive and a reasonable price - make sure you tell the taxi driver that it's the park hotel in shiodome media tower, as the royal park hotel in shiodome tower is opposite! confusing?! nah!
The location is fine... it is a bit of a walk to Shimbashi station which is the station we used the most but it wasn't too bad.
Bad points -
I totally agree with some of the reviews saying that the hotel staff are a little 'off' and cold. I have been living and working in Japan for the last 7 months and have been stunned every day with the kindness of the Japanese so I was so surprised to see such a change when I entered this hotel. I think they do probably give a bit more attention to people wearing suits rather than jeans and trainers which seems unfair as we're all paying a lot of money to stay there!
Also, I found the room a little bit tired... lots of marks on the wall and a few stains on the carpet. I know this is bound to happen but it just surprised me when the lobby area is so stunning and immaculate.
Overall, this is a good hotel to stay in - I would definitely recommend this for the view but if i were to go to Tokyo again, I would find a new hotel.
Enjoy the craziness of Tokyo - Gan batte!

“Loved Everything except getting to it.”

Stayed for 3 nights (april 21 till 24) at this property after reading about the greatness of it here on tripadvisor. the bed was impeccable and the view from my room is great too, although mine's not facing tokyo tower, but it does look out into tokyo bay!

The pillows are great and i had great sleep there. Toiletries are great too with nice aromothrapy from one of my favourote brand, Thann of Thailand.

The bad thing is travelling to the hotel if you are arriving into Shimbashi station. Although the walk is 10 min underground, so no sweat, but getting to hotel involve going down stairs. The escalators only go upwards; meaning checking out and getting to station is actually better than getting to hotel.

Staff is only ok. Lady at check in was sully and not very friendly, and since she's in black, I would think she's one of the higher ranking ones. On my last day, i went to the 1 starred michelin star reataurent and food and service was average. Generally I feel that staff in this hotel are polite only when you are dressed in suits and all formal. I was in jeans and tee and most of the time i did not get any hellos or greetings from lobby staff on my way out and into the hotel. Service is negligible; this place is only good for the beds and toiletries. period. the bath tub is small and i am 5"11 and i am already having bad time soaking my self.

“Excellent hotel”

Chose this hotel from TA reviews and it was excellent. Decor is modern and stylish and service impeccable. We were upgraded on arrival to a top floor room with views over Tokyo Tower, which on a clear morning gave us a view of Mount Fuji.
Very good location as part of the Shiodome Complex with its access to 3 stations, plenty of restaurants and coffee shops to suit all tastes and shops to cover essentials.
Good area to be in as it's close to Ginza & the Imperial Palace, and away from the frenetic areas like Shinjuku.
We'd been warned that it wasn't easy to find if you arrived by train so downloaded a map from the hotel website and the instructions couldn't have been clearer.
Very easy to get to from Narita airport. The JR line stops at Shimbashi which is part of the Shiodome complex, or there's several other easy options. Plus if you look puzzled Japanese people always ask if they can help.
