“come to relax”

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so

I started my days here at 6am with a soak in the outdoor hot tub, which is made from stone and looks very natural with tree branches arching over it and a waterfall next to it, completeing the illusion that you are in the woods, not in the world's largest city.

There is also an indoor hottub with a floor to ceiling window that looks out onto the waterfall and tranquil japanese garden. The heated pool has a glass roof and a rounded bean shape.

The rooms are quiet and comfortable. You can have breakfast overlooking the gardens. I had fruit salad, meusli and various egg dishes, all were excellent.

The concierge was helpful beyond words. Printing out maps for shopping, booking restaurant reservations and helping to ship items back to the US. No one will accept tips, which makes the sevice all the more impressive.

Do know that this hotel is at least a 30 minute cab ride from most places in tokyo. I think the location was worth the commute but I also had an expense account to put the cab rides onto.

“Top notch service that exceeded expectations”

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so

We stayed four nights at this hotel while on vacation and what stood out most was the flawless service executed with genuine warmth and helpfulness. This hotel absolutely ranks very highly in terms of the FS experience.

Before detailing the great service, it is worth noting that the location of the hotel can be a bit out of the way if you are a business traveler. However, the hotel does provide complementary shuttle bus service to the near by train stations, and we did see many business men staying at the hotel. The hotel is also located next to the Chinzan-so garden which is an oasis of traditional Japanese garden in the middle of the city. We also found it interesting to walk through the residential areas from the train station back to the hotel. It gave us a glance into the local life.

The hotel room was of average size (large for Japan) and the bathroom was comparable to other FS hotels. I would highly recommend trying out the Japanese bath - Onsen - which is available free of charge in the hotel. My wife went to it almost daily during our stay. It is a uniquely Japanese experience that is not to be missed.

Now to the service. From the moment we stepped off the airport shuttle bus, we were greeted by the bell hop (a woman), doorman, and led through one of the smoothest and quickest check-in experiences we've ever had. The bags arrived in the room almost instantly and we were ready to explore the town within twenty minutes after getting off the bus. What struck me was not the speed, but the flawlessness with which it was executed.

Our appreciation of the service only deepened during our stay. We were warmly greeted by the staff every time (all spoke excellent English) and the Concierge desk was most helpful in explaining how to catch the trains and arranging for taxis and shuttles. At every interaction, we felt genuine warmth and attention to detail by the staff. The contrast was evident when compared to FS HK (see my review for that hotel) which we went to right after Tokyo.

I would most highly recommend this hotel as it provided a definite highpoint during our vacation and made our stay in Tokyo most pleasant.
