perfect

The Nelligan was a great hotel in a perfect location. Free breakfast in the morning and gratis wine & cheese in the evening were whipped cream and a cherry on top of a sundae! We were able to walk to everything; Notre Dame basilica, museums, top resturants, Chinatown, Convention Center and metro. The Nelligan has three resturants, all excellent, Verses, Rooftop casual, and a steak house. We would love to return for another stay! 5 stars *****

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

3 day museum pass with 3 day metro for 50 bucks gets you into every museum, the botanical garden, and biodome.

Best Hotel Stay Ever!

My husband and I stayed here for a romantic week in Montreal. It exceeded all of our expectations. We’ve had other experiences with booking rooms online that have been very disappointing. This was not the case at Hotel Nelligan. Staff was warm, friendly and helpful. The bed so comfortable we didn’t want to leave. View was great as well. Location was also excellent.

Great Place in Old Montreal

Really liked the hotel. Great location, very cool rooftop bar and a spacious room with high celings. I wasn’t crazy about the decor of the lobby/bar area but that would be my only complaint. Montreal seems to have a number of great hotel options for reasonable prices but I would definitely recommend Hotel Nelligan.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Book a Loft Suite, very nice large rooms for not much more money...

A real find

Feel pampered for a reasonable price. Business travelers seem to have discovered this excellent value. But the hotel is more than that. It is still family and vacationer friendly.

Can’t wait to go back

Great location in Old Montreal allowing everything to be within walking distance. Pricey but Excellent hotel service all around. Worth every penny. Room was on the 4th floor facing open bar area down below. No problems with bar noise in the mornings or late evenings as other travelers mentioned. Slight annoyance with noises of high heels going into/out of elevators between 1:30-2:30AM. Next time will request for a room far from elevators. Room was dark even with all the lights on but otherwise very nice. Bed was extremely comfortable. Personally did not like the designer toiletries; they smelled awful (similar to Vicks Vaporub). Concierge has a selection of complimentary CDs if interested. Take advantage of the complimentary wine and cheese offered from 5-7pm.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Notre Dame Basilica is a must see. Carriage rides are offered across the street from the Basilica; pricey but you will see parts of Montreal you may otherwise not have seen. Old Port is close by and there are paddle boats for anyone who may be interested. Or just take a stroll along Old Port. It is beautiful and romantic in the evening with the sun setting. Montreal Tower, Botanical Gardens, & Insectarium are must sees if there’s time. It is about a 10 minute drive away.

Exceptional in every area!

Most delightful hotel in the heart of Montreal, near Notre Dame. On the oldest street in the city but a lovely modern hotel. Would love staying there again!!!!

Wonderful location

Though our primary destination was Quebec City we thought a few nights in Montreal would be a good way to begin. The Nelligan Hotel turned out to be a perfect choice because it was located in probably the most charming part of Montreal and was also a fairly easy walk (for us -- and we are in our 50s) from a metro station that gave full access to the city. We loved this hotel, except that like many places in Canada they keep buildings too warm in the winter. So don’t be surprised if during a winter visit you need to open a window once in a while to take the heat down a bit in your room.

wonderful stay

From check-in to check-out a very high quality experience. Rooms are large, comfortable and emaculate with entertainment centers, flat-screen TV and internet access. Bedding top knotch. The bathroom is incredible with jacuzzi and separate shower. Breakfast (included) was delicious, wine and cheese happy hour and restaurant (Verses) on site were both exceptional.

Great Hotel! Comfortable and Sophisticated

We really enjoyed the Hotel Nelligan - the service was excellent and the rooms have a very cozy yet sophisticated feel. The beds are very comfortable. Each morning a continental breakfast is included in your stay, and each evening you are offered a complimentary glass of wine and cheese. The "Mechant Boeuf" restaurant located on one side of the hotel has good food and very friendly service - on Saturday night it had much more of a nightlife feel. We did not eat at the more expensive restaurant on the other side of the hotel, but it receives good reviews. The hotel is very well located right in the heart of Old Montreal, but you can easily walk to the many other sites to see.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Be sure to visit the Notre Dame de Bon Secours on Rue St. Paul (not the Basilica Notre Dame, which should not be missed either). It is a beautiful church. The museum in the back features an archaelogical dig site and interesting displays on the history of Montreal. There is also a tower that you can climb up to which has a great view of the river and Old Montreal.

Wonderful stay

From the moment you walk in the door, the experience is wonderful. Our room was huge. The towels are luxurious, and the staff is professional and friendly. Great location. Old Montreal is quaint and lovely. The hotel is very close to a Metro stop. I’m recommending it to all of my family and friends.

Absolutely Outstanding was the Hotel Nigellian in Old Montreal!

I travel quite a bit so I can honestly say I know a decent hotel from an "not so much one." Having stayed in NYC numerous times as well in Cali. & Tuscany, Rome, Florence...Hawaii...well...our hotel was definetely 4+stars at a GREAT price point! It has wonderful bones...brick and stone walls amongst clean lines think euro meets nyc! The location is right in the thick of Old Montréal, a street over from the waterfront, (great for taking a morning walk along and a block or two from Notre Dame, the Basillica and all the major sites. You can walk to downtown no problem on a good day! The staff ridiculously kind, helpful...the rooms, bathrooms sparkling clean...the bedding oh my god...heaven!

Traveler's tip on dining

I know we were in Montreal should have eaten french but we love Italian so Buanonotte in downtown and De Emna in Old Montreal were where we dined. The staff at both restaurants so kind, attentive. The spaggetti at Bounenotte w/it’s smoked pancetta albeit with a kick of spice! mamma mia! INSANE! At De Emna you must make a point to meet Emna after your most wonderful meal! Though she speaks little english...she understand ones appreciation of your ridiculous italian fare!

Comfortable luxury in Old Montreal

We had a lovely stay recently at the Nelligan, which is well-located in Old Montreal. The hotel was cozy and intimate, but the rooms were spacious, with lots of exposed brick, large bathrooms, and comfortable beds with down duvets and pillows. A generous continental breakfast was provided, along with a daily wine and cheese reception. The concierge was very helpful, providing recommendations and helping us get the most of our stay in Montreal.

Doesn’t live up to they Hype

Stayed at this hotel for honeymoon. Made mention of this in my reservation but it was never once acknowledged during my stay. No recognition, no upgrade, nada. When we arrived they originally gave us the wrong room type- an interior facing, tiny room. They were quick to fix the problem but be warned, there was a HUGE difference between room types. This room was tiny, claustraphobic and overlooked the courtyard which is their bar (noisy late night) and breakfast (noisy early morning). We got switched to a king loft which was in the new building, very spacious, amazing bathroom. Only problem is that it was on the main street and while they have great noise blocking windows you definitely do still get noise, especially from street cleaner truck in the AM. Last, I just wasn’t impressed with the service- efficient, functional but definitely not warm or welcoming. Didn’t feel like I mattered much. Think I wouldn’t have cared as much if I hadn’t just come from a hotel with amazing service in Quebec (Hotel Dominion), if it wasn’t my honeymoon, and if I hadn’t spent a lot of money on the room. At that price and with the high ratings I read, I just expected more. I would not go back to this hotel.
