Do as much activities as possible Dunns River is a must as well as tthe tour of the plantation on horseback. Check out the shows at night lots of fun music and dancing!!

1 pleasant week

Not much to write about. On "cold" february days it was great to stay here. These guys really care about guests’ comfort. Everyone is always ready to help. If possible - plan a visit on February 14th - the hotel is all partying, rooms are cleaned 3 times a day on that day and they also left a cute St. Valentines bear on bed. I do really recommend this hotel if you want romantic getaway. Cheers.

Be sure to check tipping policy before going on any excursion. And do take money to waterfalls - put them in plastic bag.

wonderful time

Everyone working at the hotel went out of their way to make us comfortable. Our room was clean and spacious. It was on the fourth floor of the main hotel. The food was good, not five star, but very good.

Absolutely would go back

It was our first time there and we really enjoyed it. The staff was absolutely great, very friendly and accomodating. The food was excellent, from the buffets to the sit down dinners. The rooms were very spacious and clean.

Great Setting

We had a great stay at this location. While the hotel is older it is a great setting with very nice restaurants. The dining is great. Night life is a little slow after 10pm but the days are full. Tower Island was a blast with great bartenders. They are a little stingy with towels. We met a lot of nice people.

September trip

September may not be the best time of the year to go. The weather was great but the service was very much so on the lazy side; I don’t know if it was off season & so the employees weren’t into what they were doing or it wasn’t the best service because the employees couldn’t except tips. Expect a lot of walking because they do not believe in "luxury" or room service. The beach is wonderful & this is the perfect place to enjoy the water.

Fantastic!

This hotel is pretty old but they keep it nicely groomed. The staff in incredible! The food was amazing for an all inclusive. Most important...the drinks were awesome. They carry high end brands of alcohol and it is still all inclusive! We are in our 20’s and it is definitely catered to an older crowd- but it was still a blast. Go and have fun!

A terrific week at Couples Ochos Rios

I have stayed at Couples Ochos Rios Dec31 2007 to Jan6 2008. It was AMAZING ! A lot of stuff is included, good drinks, and VERY GOOD food. We enjoyed the Dunns River Falls, the Horseback riding, the beach, snorkling etc...There was always something to do. This hotel is the perfect place to relaxe and enjoy the beach, it is NOT a party hotel. There was not much evening intertainment, but that was ok, we knew before going that was what we wanted. Staff was very helpful, always nice and smiling. We had a very good vacation, and the hotel was a big part of it.

- The pick up is taken care of by the hotel, but know that the ride is more than 1 hour, but you are closed to many activities, including Dunn Tiver Falls. - Hotel for people who wants to relax at night, not a party hotel.

Less expensive, more fun than marriage counseling

When everyone says this place is showing its age, it’s true but not crucial. We had an oceanfront room that was very comfortable. All of the temps on the jacuzzis, including the private ones, are set a bit lower than we like, so we just skipped them. The beach is small, but never overcrowded even when the resort is full. Look for the tree above the cliffs east of the beach with snowy egrets. Food was wonderful, especially the Jamaican recipes. My husband is gluten-intolerant and the chef was most accomodating. We especially enjoyed the snorkeling and a horseback-riding trip at a nearby plantation. We missed making a reservation for one of the excursions but one of the resort staff booked us a taxi for the same itinerary at the same cost. This was much better than going with a group. We recommend skipping the craft areas (too aggressive) and going to Island Village, Wassi Art Pottery and Harmony Hall. There are wide-ranging ages of clientele, some who’ve been coming back year after year. You can make friends or stick to yourselves. There are lots of activities and excursions to choose from or do none of them at all. Overall, a very relaxing place to focus on you as a couple.

Our flight from Kingston to Montego Bay was cancelled, upsetting quite a few folks. The airline kindly provided a shuttle for us directly to Ocho Rios. Remember, you’re visiting a third world country. Be patient, remain flexible, and enjoy it all as adventure.

Class Act

Visited Dec. 24 - Dec. 30. Service was great. Food was good. Temps. reached low 80’s all week. Resort right on the beach. Appreciated the mini-bar and the grill right on the beach. Great for mid-afternoon snacks; especially the jerk chicken. Ocean view room provided us with a great view of the small bay the resort is on. Only downside was the room itself - specifically the bathroom. No fan or ventilation system in the bathroom thus humidity and/or steam from the shower would build up on the bathroom mirror and it’d take quite some time before you could use the mirror without having to wipe the mirror off. However, the staff provided great service and the entertainment was good. The French restaurant and the piano bar are tops. We will look to visit again.

If you’re comfortable speaking and negotiating with the locals, don’t take the resort "shopping" trip. It’s a tourist trap. Dunn’s River Falls can be fun if there are not to many tourist. Dolphin Cove was great; recommend one of the Dolphin experiences.

Great value vacation overall. Lots of extras included for free that you don’t get elsewhere (e.g. - Dunn’s River Falls / Scuba / Catamaran cruse). Staff are absolutely amazing! Food and nightly entertainment were above average but not outstanding. Hotel is showing it’s age a little. Request an recently renowated room on check in ... this makes a BIG difference.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Stay away from the cruise ship Shopping Center with the Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville (they are waiting to rip you off). Much better deals in the main town but perpare yourself to be approached on the streets to buy things you may not want.

Wish we didn’t have to leave!

The hotel was fantastic. The amenities were great, it included many activities that you would have to pay for at other resorts. The staff is extremely helpful and attentive. Anything you could possibly ask for is there. The spa was delightful and the bar had a good number of top shelf liquors. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a nice vacation in a couples only resort.

Already planning our return trip

We had a WONDERFUL time. The staff are friendly and very accomodating and the deal is awesome. I am amazed that people had bad things to say about the place. The food options were great, we ate at the jamaican restaurant pretty much every meal..quality was great and always new options at every meal. The french restaurant was excellent, the food was delicious! The hurricane and storms passed thru while we were there but we still had a great time even without the water activities. Definately sign up for the offsite activites like Dunns river falls, horseriding etc (they are included in your package deal & well worth it!) The only points to improve would be that the hotel is showing its age a little, but it’s still clean and tidy and I found the evening entertainments to be a little cheesy (would have liked more authentic reggae etc) but they do, after all, have to cater to a variety of ages so you cant please everyone. Overall I highly recommend it and we are already planning to return, hopefully within 6 months!!!!

Pay attention to the tips from tour guides about retailers (offsite) they will hassle you to no end. Definately sign up for activities like the falls, horseriding etc. With other tours (like Blue mountain biking )prepare yourself for a long haul. We preferred the shorter trips...3 hrs off site then back to chill, drink etc..perfect!

Can wait to go back

We enjoyed everything about the place (beach, food, ambiance). The only negative was that the bathroom door would not close. We cannot wait to go back.

Good Value

This is one of the oldest hotel in the Caribbean. So it has some old world charm but at the same time the rooms - esp. bathrooms - are not up to current standards. But the view from the ocean front rooms is spectacular. Overall, the facility is small with about 200 rooms, giving an intimate atmosphere. The hotel staff is very helpful and works the extra mile to make your stay comfortable. The service in restaurants is exceptionally good - considering that this is an all inclusive place and there are no tips. We especially enjoyed the food and ambiance of the Bayview Restaurant (Requires Reservations). The nightly entertainment varied in quality - we enjoyed the local steel drum band. Their is a lot to do with many activities included as part of the package, such as the Dunns River Falls, Horse Back Riding and Catamaran Cruise, apart from the normal water sports. There are a lot of deals for this place and it is really a good value.

The Hotel is about two hour ride from the airport and hotel provides the transportation. But try to take a direct flight to Montego Bay to reduce the stress of travel.

Can’t wait to go back when the weather is better!

We had a great time at Couples Ocho Rios! The people were so friendly! We were treated very well! The grounds are very beautiful. The only bad thing was the weather, it stormed for 2 & 1/2 days of our 5 day trip. I was a little disappointed that they did not have very many back-up activities to do during inclement weather. We did get to climb Dunn’s River Falls, that was incredible! I definitely recommend that trip!

Older hotel with great view

Great older hotel with a friendly staff, lots of good food, and plenty of things to do. Only problem was an extremely loud maintanence project on the floor under ours. Woke up every mornig to sounds of drills and saws.

The staff is wonderful!

Our stay was very nice. The part of the hotel we stayed in was not the renovated section-it showed a little age but was kept in excellent condition and very, very clean. The food was good and always available. The beach was smaller than expected but still very nice. The hot tubs were not in peak working condition and the pool’s filtration system could use a little work. But...the staff more than made up for the little imperfections.

When you check in make sure to get the activity sign up sheet and turn it in that day if possible. This way you don’t miss out on all the fun stuff. Also make sure to take the hotel tour-there is more to do than you think. The retailers are very nice and helpful but persistent so stand by your "No, thank you".

A One Of A Kind Place

This resort was definitely unique. If you are interested in a luxury room that is new and modern then this is not a place I would recommend. However, even with the room not exactly being what we expected it is a place that I would return to over and over again. The staff, food, activities, and overall atmosphere of the resort was amazing. You will not meet nicer people or have better service anywhere else. No fighting over lounge chairs or having a hard time getting reservations at any of the restaurants. Pure relaxation and fun in an older resort that is filled with character. At first sight of our room we thought we were going to be disappointed with our stay, but by weeks end we did not want to leave and are planning our return trip. For the price, I don’t know of any other all inclusive that is better. Choose Couples and you will not be disappointed!

Can’t wait to go back

The staff at the resort was amazing. Everyone there was more than happy to make sure we were satisfied. The building is old, but this never was a problem. The food was amazing and the entertainment was great. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Jamaica.

We went for our honeymoon and couldn’t have picked a better place to go. The staff is very friendly, the food and drinks are great, and there are so many fun activities and good entertainment. We were sad to leave and were discussing a return trip before we ever left.
