I noticed on the Coconut Bay website that the resort is very close to the airport. Should I just take a taxi upon arrival? How much should I expect to pay for 2 people with luggage?

Your journey to Coconut Bay will take less than 5 minutes from the terminal to the lobby check-in counter. The going rate is $2.00 (US) per person and my best advice is to strike up a relationship with a local taxi driver (Joseph Sammy, aka, "Sammy" is one of the best) and arrange any tours you might take on the island through that driver and avoid the Tour Desk packages that are outrageously expensive (the jungle canopy zip-line adventure for example is listed at $95.00 US per person at the Desk but the Air Canada Vacations rep there confidentially advised us that we could probably arrange that excursion ourselves at a much cheaper rate. We did. As a result we arranged for our familly of 6 to go on that tour for a total of $430.00 US instead of the $570.00 price tag at the Desk).

On another occasion we took a full day tour with Sammy to Soufriere, saw the volcano, waterfalls, botanical garden (there is an extra $5 US admission fee per person for these), and were taken by him to the beach between the Pitons on the Jalousie Estate resort where we swam and snorkelled in the crystal clear aquamarine waters of the Caribbean. We probably spent 9 hours with Sammy as our tour guide (with frequent and obliging stops for photo opportunities), for a pre-negotiated price of $20.00 US per person (or $120.00 for our group) for the day.

I think those prices will rise on a per person basis if you are a smaller group, so be sure to strike your bargain before you board the taxi-van.

You didn't ask for this advice but I would exchange your dollars for Eastern Caribbean currency and pay with EC dollars where you can (the exchange rate is $2.70 EC to the US dollar). If you pay with US dollars you don't always get American change back and you may be left wondering what price you actually paid.

Coconut Bay is a great resort and St. Lucia is spectacular. We arrived home here in Western Canada from St. Lucia at 3:00 am today and our memories are still fresh (as are our sunburns!) from our 1 week stay at Coconut Bay...Have a great time!

You can do it now, via email...has nothing to do with

the hotel.

I went off the grid to find it.

We just chose a day that seemed a good one to go on.
