Traveling next Friday from Jacksonville. We were told to take I-75 through Atlanta and then get off on I-575 toward Canton, Ellijay, etc.

Could we use I-285 instead or would it be the same kind of conditions?

You were told the right directions. Try and go through Atlanta from 9-3:30 to avoid rush hour traffic.

yes, just leave your house at 6:00 in the morning, and you will be fine, you will miss the rush hour traffic in atlanta.

take i-75 there, but if you go back home on the weekend, take I-285 as they are doing road construction on 75-85 through downtown atlanta every weekend for the next several months, closing up to 4 lanes at a time.
