HI Atlantians!!

My husband and I have been to Buckehead a few times. Having said that, we know there are TONS of things to do there. I have tickets for a show at Chastain in August. I've done my forum searches here and on the venue's web site. I can't seem to find out if we will be under a roof or if the the whole place is open air (should I bring an umbrella?). Our seats are in the Terrace section row T consecutively numbered. Are they good seats? We've never been to this place.

Also what is the parking situation? Is it hard to get a spot in one of the pay lots?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It used to be called Theatre Under the Stars so yes it all open.. if the weather calls for rain bring the umbrella otherwise forget it .. sounds like you'll be a distance from the stage... the tables are closer... and more fun... Chastain in August is going to be hot ... like the entire city of Atlanta... bring lots to drink.. the crowd at Chastain comes to see and be seen... there is a lot of talking during the performance ... people bring elaborate food and table decorations... some of the acts stink.. they are over the hill and just plain awful... that doesn't seem to get in the way of everyone having a good time... I have seen such awful performances at Chastain I now say I wouldn't go back to Chastain unless it was to see all of the Beatles together again :) but to be fair I have seen some great performances there too.. depends on who it is ... as for parking .. get there early park on the street and lug your stuff in unless you want to pay and park in the lots that the Galloway School or the other one the local public school runs.. it shouldn't be a problem..

Yes, it is open air. You can bring in any food and drink you want, so pick up a nice bottle of wine and a gourmet picnic from Whole Foods beforehand (or if you have some time go to a farmer's market). Some people are bothered that the noise an commotion from people eating and drinking are distracting from the act, and I agree it is harder to hear, which would be annoying if you really are just there for the music. But, I sort of like the din and festive atmosphere. I usually just get there early enough to park in the neighborhood I would bring an umbrella if forecasts so indicate.

Terrace level seats should be nice. I have sat there and at the tables, and both are very enjoyable.

Have fun!

There are a few seats on the extreme outside ends of the rows that have cover but I don't know anyway to tell if your seats are in that area. I always take along an umbrella or rain ponch just in case- the show will go on rain or shine. We get alot of afternoon thundershowers in the summer so there is always a chance. Also on parking- there is curbside as well on some side streets for free if you don't mind walking a bit further.

Hey all, I forgot to ask from my last post: are Chastain's lots paved or gravel?

People bring their own picnics, wine and candles. That is great but be prepared for them to talk at full level too. If the performer is important to you be prepared to hear him/her over their full blown voices. People at Chastain tend to treat the entertainment as a lounge act to be ignored.

I saw James Taylor while people around me talked constantly. Hence, I don't go to Chastain anymore.

That makes me wonder how many acts are going to start booking their shows at the new Encore Park in Alpharetta, instead of at Chastain.

Wow thanks everyone for the information. We will definately bring our own wine and a cooler full of stuff. I think we can get there early so parking should be ok. Is there a lot of towing because it's residential?

I'm not sure if the talking will bother me or not. I'm pretty loud myself and when my 80's acts come on I'll probably be singing at the top of my lungs anyway. They'll probably be complaining about ME (he he). And I'm sure someone will tell me to sit down and stop dancing. This sounds like fun. Thanks again for your replies.

Quest, you wouldn't happen to be going to the Regeneration Tour with Human League, Belinda Carlisle, Flock of Seagulls, ABC and Naked Eyes, are you?

I will be one of those singing at the top of my lungs at that show! :)

YES!!!! And I'm thinking about doing the whole 80's thing (might spike my hair or do Madonna bracelets or something).

Those bands were some of my all time favorites back in the day. I don't care.... I'm singing and dancing like it's 1984 all over again! WOO HOO!

LOL...I might take the 79 Trans Am if there's no rain and if the lots are paved. Have a great time!
