Here's what I've got so far...

Staying at Catherine ward House- I guess we'll have to be aware of our surroundings. Cab or Pedi-cab at night?

Restaurant possibilities-

Alligator Soul

Angel's Churchill's

Jazz'd

Leopold's

Kevin Barry's

Local 11

Molly McPherson

Shellhouse

Sweetleaf

Olde Pink

Vic's

Wall's

Any comments or other possibilities-Were trying to keep it on the casual side.

Things to do-

Bonaventure

St. John The Baptist

Tybee Island

Mercer House

Forsyth park

Tours- Not looking for ghosts. (I don't believe in them and they don't believe in me)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Please read as many of the previous posts as you have time for. There are likely people that share the same likes and dislikes that you do. You may find suggestions that will give you exactly the right information to narrow down the list.

Here's to a fine visit!! Come and enjoy!

Don't waste money on Mercer House. It's not a true nonprofit museum. All you're doing is helping the late Jim Williams' sister pay the property taxes on it. She lives upstairs and has been trying to sell the white elephant for years. Tourists are shown only the downstairs rooms & garden, no mention of the book or the murder, which is why people want to pay admission and think they're going to hear the gossippy juicy stores. Not a chance. Besides, Jim Williams' antiques & artwork were sold at auction years ago, even the rug that Danny Hansford bled to death on.

Go see a REAL mueum instead: Owens-Thomas, Davenport, etc.

Sweetleaf BBQ is now closed. It was mentioned in today's Savannah Morning News.

If you tour Bonaventure Cemetery, lock your valuables in your car's trunk BEFORE entering the cemetery. Take a camera & bug spray.

Jazz'd---Great restaurant with fun vibe. They don't take reservations unless you're a party of 8+, so keep that in mind.

Leopolds---It's an ice cream parlor. Delicious flavors and neat movie memorabilia.

Local 11 Ten---One of my favorites in Savannah. It's pricey, but a great experience.

Molly McPherson's---Surprisingly good lunch. Don't do dinner here....just lunch.

Olde Pink House---Great. Try the flounder.

Vic's---blah.

Churchills---blah.

Restaurants to avoid: The Pirates House & Cobblestone Conch House. Two over-priced, overrated dumps.

I second everything Cabo Cowboy just posted, except for Vic's. I thought it was excellent, especially for lunch.

Cabo just caught them on a bad night/ afternoon, I'd expect.

You didn't mention Lady and Sons, but in case you're looking to try good Southern cooking, I recommend The Wilkes House, aka Mrs. Wilkes, for lunch, M-F, 11a.m.-2p.m.

Locals and tourists alike swarm to this Savannah institution that began as a boarding house in the 1920's (Mrs. Dixon's in that era).

Lady and Sons has become a caricature of a tourist trap.

Deliberately skipped Lady and Sons. I don't want to deal with the Food Network crowding.

Mrs Wilkes was considered but I'm not a big fan of dining in groups, other than at B&B's.

Ft Pulaski is amazing if you have a car to get there. Much history, it was the first fort to fall because of the new technology of rifled cannon shells and their greater range. Several rooms outfitted as they may have been in the mid 19th century. Also an area where they have exposed the foundation to see how the thing is built.

I would also recommend the Green-Meldrim House, if you are a history buff. The museum is only opened Monday - Wednesday and is the parish house for St. John Episcopal Church. As for the history, this is where Sherman stayed when he visited Savannah; it is truly a beautiful house museum. I would recommend the Owens-Thomas House and the Isaiah Davenport House, the Mercer House is definitely over priced (I have been on the inside it's nice but you don't get to go upstairs to see the pipe organ. I would also recommend the Telfair Arts and Science Museum, for being a small town Savannah does have some excellent pieces! As for tours it depends what you are interested in, if you want to learn about history or just an over view take a trolley tour and then explore yourself (I highly recommend walking.) As for BBQ I recommend Angel's very yummy!
