Hi,

I am reaching new york on August 20 morning with my wife and a 2 yr old kid. I want to spend 2 days in NYC and 1 day in DC. I have made a draft version of my plan. Please help me in finalizing that.

Aug 20, 2008 : We will reach Battery park directly from airport may be around 8:00 AM after having breakfast. I will be going for Statue of Liberty. I want to get down in the Island and want to spend some time over there.

How much time normally it takes to clear the security and in the cruise in the morning? When is the first journey of the boat in the morning? How much time can we estimate to come back to battery park once again?

Then we will head for Wall Street and new york Stock Exchange. I think by having around 10 mins walk, I can reach there. Please confirm. Then spending around 30 mins over there, I will proceed for WTC. It's again a 10 mins walk I think. After spending some time over there, we will proceed for Brroklyn Bridge. Here I am bit confused. Which is the best way to reach there? I can walk around 10-15 mins at a stretch. Please suggest what train I need to catch and from where or walking is enough.

after doing Brooklyn bridge, if possible, I will go to South street sea port and then will head for my hotel in Times Square by Cab or subway.

Please suggest if I can cover something more. I am not interested in Chinatown or Little Italy.

I will write about Day-2 and Day-3 next post. I plan to see Empire State Bldg, times Square, United nations, one museum, madam Tussad on day-2.

Thanks,

Sandip

I see some problems here.

Precisely how do you plan on getting to Battery Park "directly from the airport"? Which airport is it that you are coming into?

Where were you planning on eating breakfast?

Just how early were you planning on leaving the unnamed "airport" that you would beat all that rush hour traffic and be at the Battery by 8:00?

Are you travelling without luggage? If you are coming from the airport, you certainly can't take suitcases to the Statue of Liberty.

Precisely what are you going to do for half an hour on the sidewalk outside the Stock Exchange? It's not as if visitors are allowed in the building, you know.

Are you just going to look at the Brooklyn Bridge, or walk it? And if you are going to walk it, in which direction? And just how much walking do you expect a two year old to do, anyway?

What do you want to do at the South Street Seaport? Why not go there from Wall Street, as it is on the way to both the WTC and the Brooklyn Bridge.

And do you REALLY have no luggage at all????

So far, very little of your trip makes much sense.

Hi,

I should give more detail on it.

Yes, We won't have much luggage/suitcase. We will be carrying two bagpacks and one stroller for my baby.

I am reaching JFK at 6:00 AM by Delta from California. We are planning to take a CAB directly to Battery park. I don't have much time, so can't check-in hotel in the morning. Yes, it is bit hectic, but we have aleady done such trip before. Can't we have some place to take breakfast near Battery park? We don't have any special food fasination and can take almost anything.

I don't know what are left worthy seeing and what we can skip (among what we have mentioned) by taking suggestion from board.

In Wall street, we just want to roam around in NY streets, take some snaps. But if it is not worthy or Liberty itself takes more time, we can skip that also. South st sea port is intended for shopping only, but again optional.

I don't think you will be even be able to take an overnight bag to the SOL. Security is very tight.

Is there any way that I can put my bags deposited in security and can take it back while returning....

Otherwise, we need to shif Day-1 to Day-2 and day-2 program to Day-1. We will start from Times Square hotel in Day-2 morning and reach the ferry security with my camera only?..BTW, is stroller allowed or this needs to be back to hotel?

Visitors and their belongings are subject to inspection. The National Park Service appreciates your patience and understanding of these procedures and the additional time that may be required.

Please note that there are no locker storage facilities at the ferry terminals. Lockers, for small items, are available at Liberty Island. Backpacks, strollers, parcels etc. will not be allowed inside the monument. (cameras, handbags, and small personal items are exempt). Please keep in mind that there is no eating, drinking, or smoking inside the National Monument.

A "Monument Pass" is needed to enter the monument. All visitors with a time pass must pass through secondary screening on Liberty Island before entering the monument. The "Monument Pass" holders will be able to enter the Museum Gallery and visit the top of pedestal. There is no access above the pedestal level. Time passes are available free from the ferry company with the purchase of a ferry ticket. You can order advance tickets by calling the ferry company at: 1-877-LADY-TIX (1-877-523-9849 or on-line.

Thanks Bobby for your reply.

**Backpacks, strollers and large umbrellas are not permitted in the Monument.**

Can we take backpacks and strollers to the island by boat BUT NOT inside the monument?

That's what it sounds like.

Maybe give them a call or send them an email

If you have any questions regarding security procedures, please contact the park in writing prior to your visit at: National Park Service, Statue of Liberty National Monument, Liberty Island, NY, NY 10004, Attn: Division of Interpretation & Visitor Services; or e-mail.

I just talked to them and as per them, Strollers and backpackas are OK to boats if the size is resonable.

Thanks for being patient with me.

Please help me regarding the other part/question of the trip, how much time we can expect over there in ferry, security etc.
