My boyfriend and I are coming to see Bruce Springsteen at Gillette stadium this summer. I have read that we will not need a car during our stay in the city while touring around; though is the only way for us to get to the concert by car? I haven't seen any public transportation down there. Thank you!

You need a car. Gillette Stadium is in the town of Foxboro, some 30 miles outside the city. There MAY be train service from Boston like they do for Patriots games, but I'm not sure on that. They usually announce such service far too late for the people who already grabbed a rental car.

Here's a tidbit I just found. Plan on getting a car.

"I just received this from the local commuter rail agency in the Boston area. Looks like I'll be paying the $40 parking fee.

Currently there's no plan to provide Commuter Rail service to the Bruce

Springsteen Concert. Typically, Commuter Rail Service to Gillette is

only for Patriots Games. I recommend you follow-up with our department

about a week or two before the show incase any adjustments occur.

If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding this matter,

please contact the MBTA Customer Support Department. We can be reached

by calling 617-222-3200, or by visiting our website at www.mbta.com.

Thank you again for contacting the MBTA."

Sincerely,

MBTA Customer Support Department

That's too bad there won't be train service to/from the show, because that's an easy way to get in and out. I've done that train for soccer matches and Rolling Stones shows, and it was super easy and convenient.

The driving hassles, the parking costs, and the very slow crawl out of Foxboro out of the show won't be pleasant.

Considering Springsteen is just as big a draw as the Stones, I wouldn't be surprised if they did add train service. If enough people call them, they may. The Stones played more than 1 show there though. Wasn't it like 3 or 4 shows that year?

The year I saw the Stones and took the train was 2002, and they did just one Gillette show...the other two were Orpheum and Fleet Center.

I also did the Stones Gillette show in Sept. 05, and that was a very small crowd, maybe 30,000 at best, and even then they had to firesale tickets (mine cost $22.50 FACE value)...not sure if they offered a train for that show or not, I drove.

Springsteen should sell out, so they ought to do a train.

They always offer train service to the big concerts in Foxboro/Gillette. I've used it a couple times.

fabin, no need to rent a car. Worst case, you can always rent a car for one day at the last minute. No need to plan that far in advance.

I'm assuming this concert is August 2 Sat 7:30 PM.

If they don't have special train:

5:20 out of South Station to Walpole

10:55 out of Walpole to South Station

Take a cab. Ask the cabbie to take you to the end of Shufelt Road and then just follow the crowd. Ask the cabbie to pick you up there after the concert. It should only be 10 minute cab ride back to Walpole Station, but if you think the concert will last much past 10 this probably wouldn't be a good option. The train also stops at Ruggles and Back Bay if your hotel is closer to one of those stations.

I contacted the MBTA requesting the T make trips for the concert especially due to current gas prices. They said the request would be reviewed. The more requests the more likely they would be willing to accommodate I would guess.

Enjoy the concert!

Thanks for your message; I sent MBTA a couple emails asking if they were going to have transpo to Gillette. I never got an answer so I called them today. The CS rep I spoke with said that they only go to Gillette for Patriot games and when the concert promoter arranges for the train to run. So I have a couple questions; 1) who is the promoter for the Springsteen concert. 2) We are staying at a hotel close to the Back Bay station, does anyone know of any bars, etc. that are arranging for travel to Gillette. Thanks
