We are a young couple visiting Boston the wknd of July 25-27th, planning on going to the Yankees/Sox game, doing a walking tour of the city, maybe a little shopping, and any of the other great touristy things we can fit in. We're looking for a hotel that is relatively close to these sites and is clean and for a good price. We're not sure if we should try to find a hotel within walking distance of downtown or opt for something a subway ride away that is maybe a little bit better priced for us? Suggestions??? Thanks so much!

You'll need to define "cheap". Boston hotels can be very expensive.

suggest you give a price range you are comfortable with so TAs can direct you.

price range: 150-225 per night. If anyone wants to give their opinions on "must-sees" in Boston for this time of the year, we'd take that too!! :) And is stubhub our best choice for the ball tix- we're looking at paying around 200ish for bleacher seats- sound reasonable??

Oh boy. YOu're talking a yankees game here. It's going to cost you. Right now bleacher seats for those games are running $200 +

The Yankees are in town! Your looking at $200 per ticket. As far as where to stay, if you could increase your budget to $250 per night, the Marriott Copley Place is available on priceline for your weekend. A very good hotel in a very good location.

thanks for the replies so far. :)

Yup, we know the Yankees are in town- I am a huge Yankees fan (almost scared to say that on this forum!) and my bf is a huge Sox fan- so this is a must-see game! We're willing to pay $200+ for these tickets, which is why we're hoping to find a hotel for a little less. Any other suggestions? We found a Holiday Inn Express that seemed pretty fair, it was mentioned that it was only a short subway ride from the sites too. any thoughts??

Consider staying at the John Jeffries House. It's in a good location called Beacon Hill and very reasonable. The Holiday Inn Express is way off the beaten path down in Dorchester. At least with this place, you can walk back late at night if you miss the last train.

Which Holiday Inn Express. Will007 is right about the one in Dorchester, but there's anohter one, I believe it's called "Holiday Inn Express/Government Center" or "Holiday Inn Express/Beacon Hill" that is right near Mass General Hospital, between a red line T Stop and a blue line T stop. It's been recently renovated and is a decent location, walkable to some sites and as already mentioned, right near the T.

Hi,

The Holiday Inn Select-Beacon Hill is the one that's on Cambridge Street not far from Government Center. If that one is in your price range, It's a better location and it's a short walk to the Green Line at Government Center. If being close to downtown Boston and being able to walk out of your hotel and be "somewhere" is important to you, it's a good area to be.

The Holiday Inn Express on Boston St. in Dorchester is a nice, newer motel that is in a nondescript light industrial area that has nothing of interest to a tourist nearby. I recommend it to people because it's usually much cheaper than staying downtown ($100/night vs. $200 or more downtown), and it has free parking for those who have cars with them. I recommend it for people who are just looking for a decent place to sleep for the night and don't want to pay downtown prices. It's walking distance to the T at Andrew Sq. Red Line as well, so it's more convenient than staying someplace where you have to rely on the hotel shuttle to go places.

How much you want to spend and where you want to be located is up to you. You can also try bidding your price on Priceline and you may very well pick up a room downtown that way.

Hi everyone

The Holiday Inn Express I was talking about is the one in Beacon Hill...safe??? I know some of you had been mentioning that some of the HoInnExp's are in a not-the-best neighbourhood, so i want to confirm that this Beacon Hill one is OK. Other than this one, we also liked hte look of the Jefferies one that someone mentioned...

Once we have this hotel booked, we can take it easy and figure out how we'll spend our days, but it is important to us to have a hotel that is safe, clean and will be a good place to refresh and rest!! once again, I do appreciate the help...
