I'm moving to Haiku next month, and I'm really having a hard time finding dealers that sell used mopeds in or around Kahului. Craigslist is hit or miss, but I'd rather buy from a dealer anyway, as they usually offer warranties and their bikes are already registered, etc. But so far I can only find one guy all the way over in Lahaiana. I don't know how I'd get all the way over there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Jesse

Please be careful, if you are going to use the moped as your transportation. The roads on Maui are narrow and some of the drivers are crazy, locals and tourists alike.

Please don't consider riding a moped on Maui! It's waaaay to dangerous. If I couldn't afford a car, I'd hitchhike or take the Maui Bus:

I agree, and I wonder if you're having a hard time finding dealers because mopeds are so much the wrong thing to drive over here.

Don't move to Maui only to get killed or maimed on the roads!

Around Haiku...

You will regularly encounter windy, wet, narrow, steep, fast, congested, and curving conditions; the anathema of safe moped-ing. Often with zero in the way of a shoulder or other "out" in an emergency.

And while 98% of your new neighbors would show you some aloha on your scooter, there are 2% who are mokes and do stupid stuff like harass moped riders.

In flat, urban Honolulu, a moped is a wonderful mode of transportation; but not in rural Upcountry and East Maui.

poesloke:

I'm not going to comment on whether or not to get a moped. That decision is yours. I did notice there were no answers to your question. There are lots of dealers on Maui! Just go to Superpages.com. Type in Maui, HI for location and Mopeds for business and you will get a list of dealers as well as a map with numbered flags showing each location.

Good luck whichever way you go...

Mike
