We'll be out of our hotel in Lahaina in the am Tuesday Nov 20th and driving to Flower Point Farm in Huelo to stay the next couple of nights. Anything we shouldn't miss on the drive there? Can't check in until after 3:00, so probably a stop for lunch somewhere....maybe a tour of a plantation, stop in a cute town or a short hike. We're up for just about anything. Just don't know the area at all.

From Lahaina, next major town will be Kahului; not much unique to islands there except mall, shopping at major chain stores, fast food.

Better to cruise on through ... head 5-7 mins down the Hana Highway to the cool town of Paia. Very fun, unique place; lots of great people watching; some good food at reasonable prices; unique shops; the Maui Craft Guild, Baldwin Beach, Ho'okipa Beach and overlook where the surfers and windsurfers hang ... and in right season location of big competitions. You can beachcomb, or swim if conditions are right, at Baldwin Beach; they have showers to wash off your feet. Before the light, across from Maui Craft Guild, you will see a community parking lot. Safe, OK to park here - Paia is only 2-3 blocks; check out Paia Fish Market, Jacques or our fav --- Moana Bakery - chef used to work for Bev at the well known Hali'imaile General Store; great variety; good food; well presented; very casual; good value -- local music and jazz.

If you have time and want some upcountry adventure, turn RIGHT at the only stop light in Paia and head upslope to another cool town called Makawao ... from here you can go the 'mountain route' to Haiku; and from Haiku Town Center to Hana Hwy and Huelo.

Be sure your car, tires, brakes are in good condition; some of the roads from Hana Highway ocean side to various Huelo lodging are not always well maintained; dirt with ruts; big holes, etc. Check with the folks at flower farm on road conditions after your turn off the highway.
