Mother's Day Brunch |
|
My wife and I will be picking up our daughter from the U. of Rochester on Mother's Day Weekend. Any suggestions for a nice Sunday Brunch (preferably a buffet) in the Binghamton area? Thanks!! |

There are a lot of Chinese buffet restaurants in the Binghamton/Triple Cities area, but they're rather general and can be found in any city area. I'm taking a guess that you're taking I-81 South from Rochester; there's a restaurant on Upper Front Street on the border between Chenango and Binghamton proper called the Spedie Pit, which is the local "delicacy" in Binghamton. They're marinated chicken sub sandwiches that are really delicious, if you'd like to try something new. If you're dead set on eating at a buffet, the best place to go would be Vestal Parkway for the most variety. Take Exit 4S to Route 434 West. That takes you right towards Binghamton University. Immediately after the BU campus is the typical fare for a large commercial strip near a college campus: lots of fast food places and shopping centers to choose from. About a mile down on Vestal Parkway is the Town Square Mall, which is more fondly known as the Wal-Mart mall. There are two all-you-can-eat buffets here: one is a Chinese buffet with a lot of seating and different international choices (it not only has Chinese food but lots of American meals and even pizza), and the other is the Old Country Buffet, which serves more traditional foods. Both are good places for a Sunday brunch, and are only about a ten minute diversion from I-81. Hope you have a good trip!

I think he had something more in mind like a brunch buffet at a hotel or upscale restaurant. Can anyone help?

You are right. I guess I should have been clearer. I'm expecting something in the $20-25 each range.

Give these people a call in Depost, near Binghampton. http://www.chestnutinn.com/index.php The Chestnut Inn setting is lakefront, beautiful. They have different dining venues...Main Dining Room, lakefront, sunroom, pub-style. You may be able to find what you like there.

There are many good places in town, much closer than Chestnut Inn - post here what kind of place you are looking for and I can give you some guidance. Is brunch vs. sit down and order important to you? What kind of food do you like? Do you like "eclectic" food in neat converted buildings in a downtown setting, or more typical American fare? Etc etc. I will monitor this forum and be happy to help you. Wayne

We are also interested in a Mother's Day brunch, we live in the Binghamton area, would like someplace with a nice relaxing atmosphere that will be memorable Mother's Day outing. Typical American fare would be best with breakfast foods as well as carved meats, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Two places downtown that have great food (Lost Dog Cafe and D.C Dunster's) are serving Mother's Day brunch.
