I am headed out to Reno from DC and need a good recommendation for a place to stay- 4 nights on my own for business. Have not been to Reno since I was a kid. Any suggestions or warnings would be appreciated.

If you have a car and want to say away from the strip, the Atlantis and Peppermill are better properties than downtown.

If you want a more business oriented hotel, there are two Marriotts in South Reno.

If you want downtown, the El Dorado or Silver Legacy are the most complete. The Sands has a great mid-week rate and has solid, but not spectacular rooms.

A lot depends on what you're looking for - what types of amenities? Do you want to mix in some fun with your business, or do you want a quiet place where you can go back to the room and work? Reno has the usual chains (Hampton, Hilton Garden, Residence Inn, etc.) that are the same as everywhere else. However, if you want to have fun when the workday is over, any of the casino hotels would suffice. It might help if you tell us what you're looking for in a hotel (and that includes other things you might want to do) and we can offer suggestions on hotels and locations. Also, will you have a car available - that's important too.

You might have a problem finding "a few shows" as the entertainment can be limited.

From what people have said and from what I have read on line, the new Peppermill rooms look great. The South part of Reno is much nicer than the "strip" and offers more shopping and food options including a Trader Joe's for snacks. You would then be 5 minutes to downtown.

Snack? Trader Joe's Oh Come On! Lots of great places to eat in Reno no need to resort to "Snacks: from Joe's!

Most of the majors will have shows, lounge music & other attractions downtown or out such as the Nugget in Sparks, The Peppermill & Atlantis North or Harraha's or others in town. Sundays & Mondays are often "dark" nights for many of the stage shows.

Go to Louis Basque restaurant downtown for unique experience with excellent food. The Atlantis Seafood "Arch" over Virgina street has some the best most reasonably priced seafood in America.

I was talking about things to munch on in the hotel room and not have to go out to a restaurant. Therefore, "snacks" would be quite good from Trader Joe's. Now if you want to go out and eat a meal at a restaurant, of course, there are many restaurants. Many of the good ones, however, are not downtown.

And yes, if you want a bad lounge show, there are plenty of them in Reno. If you want a headliner or a production of substance, it is a struggle.

I'll chime in..since you will have a car I'll will recommend The Summit at Grand Sierra (#5 on tripadvisor). This property is centerally loacted within 10mins of N/S/E/W activities. There is an onsite movie theather and plenty of dining from $$$$ to $. You will also find a variety of entertainment, C&W, Rock n roll, and smooth sounds plus a wine bar to die for.

The Summit is a great value with amazing rooms...Hope this does not confuse you further...Read the posts on all sites to help you make your choice.
