That's a hard question to answer, not knowing your interests. Carson City is the capitol of Nevada, so you could look at the capitol building and the Governor's mansion. There is also a state museum in Carson City that is pretty interesting and a small children's museum (don't know if you're traveling with kids?). There are a few smallish casinos and a couple of decent restaurants. You definitely couldn't spend a whole day doing things there unless you're a really slow walker...;)!

And not far from Carson City is the historic Virginia City.

Carson has a great railroad museum, I think the only one in the area. They have a real working steam engine, good for kids. Not much in th way of shopping, just the usual chains. People in Reno rarly actually go to Carson City, unless we work there, for the state. Most people migt be dissapointed.

There's quite a bit to do, depending on when you're traveling.

There is The Nevada State Museum, Children's Museum, State Capitol, Railway Museum, Kit Carson Trail among other things to do.

If you like dirt and blowing sand, lots of heat and wind, electrical storms and, you don't like trees, water and greenery, then Carson City will be heaven for you! I've only been to one place worse than this...Mojave, CA. What's nice about Carson City? The people. Some of the friendliest I've ever met anywheres!
