I would like to take myself and 2 boys (will be 8 and 10) to Florida but with the mass of things to do, places to stay etc I just dont know where to start looking to book things in. When is a good (quieter, but weather ok)time of year to go?

Where do I look for a good deal on hols and would you book in theme parks etc at the same time?

I know we'd like to go to Disney and also Universal. I'd like to fit in Busch gardens and maybe seaworld, so we'd probably be looking at staying somewhere cheap enough to have a long stay, but still close enough to the action to be able to get to places. Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

Ideally I'd go the first few weeks of November or December.

We went last year right after Thanksgiving. Crowds were not bad and you get to see all the Christmas decorations and activities! Also agree with beginning of December as Kat said. Beat the Christmas rush!! Weather was perfect for us, only saw 1 short rain shower. Temps were in the 80's, nights were cooler. Sometimes it can get too cold for water parks this time of year, but I think you will be okay. Have fun planning!

BTW Thankgsgiving, if you are not aware, is on November 27 this year. So the beginning of the week after would be December 1. As many will be leaving on Sunday November 30 you may want to begin then. Crowds are smaller and weather is good that time of year.

Now, for booking flights, hotels etc. you will be better served by waiting for UK posters to start giving advice. They have all the connections for booking for your side of the Atlantic. We Floridians are not the ones to ask about thsoe particulars.

October is a nice time of year to go, though it may still be busy.

If you are planning to drive, then for your location, everywhere is open to you. Lake Beuna Vista is a very popular area, close to Disney and a short drive to Universal. I would decide on when and where before you start looking at theme park tickets, you can purchase them anytime.

Hi kitten

You have already made a good start by joining the Orlando Forum, Welcome :)

Good times to visit are 'Low Crowd' Weeks . I agree, first two weeks of November and First two weeks of December. First two weeks of January ( would be a bit iffy as far as weather goes tho ) Last Week of February. Middle of May is lovely for nice weather and low crowds. There are all kinds of deals available for every Season. Sign up for the news letter at www.mousesavers.com and also have a look at www.wdwinfo.com for up to date offers and Park info. Another good site is www.allears.net

For Ticket info and discounts www.undercovertourist.com will give you an idea of options and prices so you can better plan your Budget

Alot of folks think staying at a Disney Resort will cost alot of $ but there are perks to staying on Property that can sometimes save $ in the long run. Free Transportation to and from the Airport ( MCO ) and to all the Disney Parks. Extra Magic Hours that are only availablt to Resort Guests. Dining Plan Options ( even Free Dining in the Fall when available ) Those are just a few of the Perks to consider. I would go in early December. Perfect time of year although a little cool in the evenings. If that bothers you than October is the next best time of year to go, IMO. If you can't do that, May would be the next best, followed by November, September, January, and February. Avoid Spring Break (mid March through mid April), Summer (June through mid August), and Christmas Break (around December 20th-January 5th) like the plague.

I would stay around LBV or south I-Drive, to be close to everything.

look at booking with Travelcitydirect.com

or www.Broadwaytravel.co.uk

I would advise you stay on Idrive as your children are at that age, that International drive will keep them happy when the parks are closed.

Plenty of cheap places to eat as well.

Hope this helps?

Good look, we are all here to help!!!

Another vote for first two weeks December. I Drive is a good alround central place to stay.

My tips at present are:-

Make a list of things to do and prioritise them into must do, like to do, might do but not disaster if dont.

Then start looking at ticket options that are linked together (foe example if all the pakrs on the flex-ticket are on your must do list then list would be a must buy)

Once you know your tickets then you can price them

Consider if you want a car. With an 8 and 10 year old using shuttles etc wont be that bad. The couple of hundred quid you save on insurance can be put towards a better hotel or simply making your hol cheaper. The daily travel cost would be covered by savings on car parking and petrol.

A popular thought at present is if you can book from US sites the weak dollar and the "poor" domestic travel numbers make this a good way of saving money. And ont discount buying direct from the parks own websites, they are sometime better value than the ticket agents
