Daytona Beach was beautiful,we were ther two weeks ago.We were in North Mrytle Beach last year and LOVED it. Warmer water, no riptides and a little more laid back for families.read Tripadvisor often, it eill give you lots of insite!

There are many new condo/resorts in Daytona, since the hurricanes. Many of the older ones are fixed up also.

There has been no mention of water problems on DB postings.

There are many posts on kid friendly lodgings and recommendations. Look through the forum for them and you will get plenty of information.

I'm taking my my 4 y/o and 21 mos old son to Daytona for two days for a long Disney vacation. We're stayting at The Shores Resort & Spa and I've only heard great things about it!

It's actually in Daytona Beach Shores, which is south of all the hullabaloo by the boardwalk and Ocean Walk.

I think you would like Daytona. As far as 'new' condo/resorts you may not find any but most have been remodeled after the 04 'canes. It's easy to find a nice place.

For the last few weeks the water has been COLD. Should be about 84 this time of year but it's around 74...No one is predicting when it will go back up but it's stayed low for a lot longer than anyone thought it would.

Also the storm out at sea has brought us some big waves. A lot of surfers are hanging out here now...something we don't see much of.

Beach Update...

Today is beautiful! The temp is coming up and is at 77 now. Low tide was the best I've ever seen this beach. Clear water and it looked like the Caribbean:-)

On oceanfront pool deck you will have a Lazy River -- 3 Pools - Water Gym -- 1.5 story water slide also inside 2 indoor pools & child's activities and ARCADE.

On site -- 10 screen movie theater -- Stone Mountain Creamery (Ice Cream) -- Johnny Rocket's (50s burger place) and a Quiznos..also a Starbucks for MOM...

Across street -- Go Karts...this vacation will be no work at all for you but, may have more tears than normal when ready to go home...

The beach is nice, the city is as my 8year old says, "a ghost town". Apart from the above mentioned places to go, there is not much to do or see. Lots of closed and for rent buildings and shops. If you are going for just the beach, it would be fine. If you are looking for a well rounded city, look elsewhere.

Daytona is not a large city where you will find great varieties of things to do. I always think that DAytona has a small town feel, like resort days of yore. It is refreshing to me. I don't want wall to wall people.

Everytime I see this ghost town stuff I ask myself where these people were...

The Daytona I just spent 3 weeks in was always alive!

There were traffic jams, pretty good crowds on the beach and always something to do. I'm guessing they just flew in and took a cab to one area and didn't even cross the bridge back onto the mainland?

On the Forth of July there were thousands on the beach.

In fact there were so many people on ISB July 4th weekend that it took around 25 minutes to go from US1 to I95.

So was this Ormand, Holly Hill, Daytona, The Shores or Port Orange that was dead? Maybe the Inlet?
