Do a search for "gift" in Japan Forums and you'll get some ideas. If you don't get any better ideas, maybe a locally-produced brand of fruit preserves, Vermont maple sugar candy, or real 100% Vermont maple syrup?

Similar questions have come up before. The consensus is to bring local specialties--definitely edible, non-meat. Perhaps nicely packaged jams?

On occasion I've given photo books of my area, if my host has been here. Don't know if they're appreciated, or just take up space.

Reese's peanut butter cups are one "major" US candy brand that is not available in Japan. They have Reese's Pieces for whatever reason, but not the cups. The 3 packs for $4 are usually available at Drug Fair/CVS/Walgreens and I usually buy 10-20 packs every time we go back (we used to live in NJ) and then give them out to co-workers etc.

If you want a local gift and live near the shore then how about some locally-made salt water taffy?

thanks for all the ideas - I have just finished stuffing my suitcase with all the goodies (hopefully they won't melt in transit) I ended up with the peanut butter cups, peanut butter brittle, salt water taffy (local product), and some of the specialty M&M's all going to be packed in a goodie bag for my husband to bring to his coworkers - I did tons of running around so I hope they enjoy their treats - thanks for the ideas

I believe on the back of the M7M package it mentions Hackettstown, NJ - there is a M7M plan there. SDo not know your proximity to Hackettstown but may be worth

mentioning to the co-workers

Have a great trip
