I'm not in Tokyo, but I'll bet the shops work the same way. They have 2 systems for people who want to sell things. 1. Consignment...you set the price and agree that if it sells you will give a % of the price to the shop. Percentage varies by shop. You leave the item for 30 days (or other set time) and go back...if it has sold, you are paid your share, if not sold, you either try another time or take the item back and you owe nothing. 2. Outright buy from you...the shop sets the price and pays you immediately. The amount of money you get this is much less than the value, as the shop is taking the risk that it won't sell at all. It wouldn't hurt to bring the receipt with you, but you don't need it.

Tokyo has many those kind of shops that we call 'Shichi-ya'. means pawn shop. it is not only you can pawn but also sell. they will show you a price that they can buy it from you and they would buy if you agree the price. bring with bag cover(original cloth cover from LV) and box if it is not troublesome. doesn't matter if you have a receipt or not. They know the price if it is not fake.

Frizz18, I read the webpages of major second-hand shops (including pawn-shops) to double-check the procedure and found out that the law now requires you to show ID with Japanese address when estimated value is 10,000 yen and over. (Foreign-issued passports/licence cards are not accepted) There may be some ways to avoid this rule but I'm not sure if it is worth bringing your bag...

Thank you very much for your replies guys! Oh I love TI, can't travel well without the helpful hints from fellow members. JLady, I don't think I will sell my bag then if it's too much of a hassle. It seemed that I have to be a Japanese resident in order to sell my beloved bag. It doesn't like to be replaced, I would say haha. But still I'm taking and using it when I go there, a good reason to keep it then :) It's an authentic LV bag that I bought in LV store in Brisbane.
