Hi All,

After much going around in circles we are looking to stay at Intercontinental Grand Hotel. Coulds anyone advise if in central location and shops close by if i wanted to go out alone without hassles of a taxi. It is more then we wanted to pay but after looking at a few this seemed the best. Does anyone know why delhi hotels are so expensive.

Also, would it be wise to book a transfer before we leave? Or grab a cab?

One last question if i may. We are flying Delhi to Mumbai. Any thoughts on safest airline?

Many Thanks

Caz

Delhi has a supply-demand problem. Too much demand, too little supply. The same is true for Bombay.

The Intercontinental Grand is on Barakhamba Road, right in the heart of Delhi, near Connaught Place. The street market of Janpath is nearby, where you can buy lots of handicrafts, jewellery, curios, wood and metal carvings, bronzes etc. Another place I suggest you go to is Central Cottage Industries Exposition (CCIE) on Janpath. It is four floors of shopping at fixed prices, run by the central government to promote Indian crafts. You can also go to Baba Kharak Singh Marg, where all the state emporiums stock crafts from each of India's states.

See this simple map for how Connaught Place is laid out. You can move your mouse over the little yellow men to see where Intercontinental is, with respect to Janpath and Baba Kharak Singh Marg:

There are several airlines that fly the Delhi-Mumbai sector. I don't know about "safest" - but there are budget as well as non-budget airlines. The two non-budget ones are Jet Airways and Kingfisher, and you'll find them superior to many international airlines. Even the budget ones - SpiceJet, Deccan, Jetlite and so on, have good staff who offer smiling service. Overall, flying in India is a good experience.

Your hotel will arrange a transfer for you - I noticed on the Intercontinental website that their transfer is Rs 1500. There are also pre-paid taxis as well as private cars for hire at the airport.

Hi Deepa

Thank you so much for your reply.

We are still going around in circles lol

We are now looking at staying at The Manor which i found on one of your earlier post. Costs were starting to get out of control. I have emailed The Manor as their tariff only goes to august so hopefully it will be a similiar price. If so will be a brilliant find thanks to you.

If i may, could i ask another question please.

Do you know a driver/tour company that does transfers one way between Agra and Delhi. We are looking to do a day trip by train, but it doesnt get in early enough back into Delhi to catch a late night flight to Mumbai. Any ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for all your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Caz

Sorry, I don't know anyone that does one-way transfers. The ones I know will charge two-way.

By the way, I just did Delhi-Agra by road, and it is a good road, I thoroughly enjoyed the drive because we kept seeing interesting things.
