There have been several articles in the press about changes to UAE entry visa regulations recently and they have been as clear as mud.

Today in Gulf News there is an article that indicates that the changes are maybe more extensive than had been previously indicated.

If we are reading this correctly then those coming from countries that previously would get a visa at no cost on arrival will now have to pay a 100dhs visa fee, but will still get the visa on arrival. This includes visitors from EC countries and USA. The article does not state where you get these visas at the airport (whether at the visa desk at the base of the elevator before immigration or at the immigration desk itself) or which currencies will be acceptable.

This is still a bit E&OE and we will try and keep this post up to date as things hopefully become more clear.

For the full article see this:

gulfnews.com/nation/…10231396.html

See the .pdf link for the Visa issuance fee structure.

We've looked at several UAE govt websites and haven't been able to find anything more definitive. If anybody has better luck, PLEASE add the info to this post.

thanks huge

Good old UAE, plenty of thought and notice gone into this one.

I can just see the queues now at Passport control, when those entering have no 100Dhs to get through.

I once went to Cuba and you had to have note ready and slipped inside your passport when you went through customs. lol.

Hugedxb, thanks for the link - I'm still a bit confused though. We're vising Dubai again in August from Ireland and I thought last time we didn't get any visa or maybe it was just stamped when we went through passport control?

Is there something we will need to do differently this time - do we need to apply for visas before we arrive?

Sillysocks, read Huge's brilliant post again and it is alll there...

A bit worrying, I also worry that I wont have any AED when entering the country (2nd August): this could be chaos... :-(

I think the only change for countries that were previously allocated a visa on arrival (e.g. EU countries) will now have to pay 100 dirhams.

I was just a bit confused because I thought last time we didnt need a visa - but perhaps they just stamped one at passport control?

If I remember there were ATMs before the passport control so could withdraw cash from those if needs be.

Was only asking what I thought was an easy qusetion -don't have my passport to hand to check, thought someone might just be able to clarify off hand.

its easy to take a couple of hundred dirhams with you, i know the rate in the uk is not as good but just change enough ie £50 per head to get you in and pay for any taxis tips etc.

this happens in alot of countries!

Looked at a few more stories and it may be it's only for people spending more than 14 days in the UAE.

<< A visit visa applies to all tourists that wish to spend longer than 14 days in the UAE, whether this is for leisure or business. >>

Typical UAE ambiguity though
