I am flying into Singapore as a 2 day stop over on my way to Bali. This will be my first destination following a long flight from Canada to Hong Kong so I'm looking for somewhere quite to rest and get rid of jetlag.

Looking for somewhere reasonably cheap but clean.

Any suggestions?

What's your budget?

Under US$100 I recomend the South East Asia Hotel, it's clean, near the MRT Station, Staff is friendly, lots of shopping venue around, but the breakfast might not suit the western pallate.

If your budget is over $100, then I recommend the Mercure Roxy, they have a free shuttle bus from/to the airport, around 15 min each way. But the only experience I have with this hotel is their Executive Floor, which was by the way excelent, but avoid room 1613 <- I Think, it was way back in the emergency exit, seriously outside the door is the Emergency Exit. But the executive floor has all the amenities you could ask for, buffet breakfast, computer to surf the net, afternoon cocktail with free flow of tiger beer and wine. If you want to get out in the afternoon just take a bus in front of the hotel, there's also a shopping mall accross the street with a "Giant" Hypermarket in case you needed a universal electrical socket (wich i bought cheaper than airline price of course)

I was actually thinking much less than that. I am travelling for 6 months so I need to be really economical. Going for cheap but cheerful here!

I have a request in for the 1BandB Hostel and also the Hangout at Mt. Emily. $30 and $45 per person respectively. Just don't know if I can find cheaper or better.

6 months, you were'nt kidding about your screen name :)

Anyway, the SEA Hotel works around $70 for a single room, but around the same area is the new 7th storey hotel, which has a dorm room, for around $17 (not sure, check their website, you could book online)

www.nsshotel.com

For jetlagged people, i would recommend that you avoid mt.emily, because it takes quite a bit of a walk up the hill to get to (around 15 min uphill climb literally).

1BnB never had any expirience, anyway for cheap stay i would recomend the nsshotel, location convinient, almost stayed there but fully booked so moved to SEA hotel, staff (front desk) was friendly and helpful, don't know about the room, but location is in the same area of bugis, so all the amenities of SEA hotel, is kinda just a few blocks away from NSS Hotel, hope it helps

Sorry, forgot to ask, when are you coming to Singapore?

I just found out that the NSS hotel will be demolished by December'08

I tried both the NSS and the SEA hotel - both are booked for the time I'm going (which is in September)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep searching!

Hey, welcome to singapore soon!

u want cheap n no frills (no swimming pool, room service with food, no breakfast buffet)

Below are the followings.

Try the Hotel 81 chain of hotels. there is ALOT scattered around the whole city. google it up. but if u dont like the sleazy places right smack in the red light district, do not choose those with Geyland Rd as their address.

Ok sorry i just really that 80% of their hotels IS in Geylang Rd. If thats not wat you want, skip it.

Try Fragrance chain of hotels. try googling Fragrance Viva hotel in particular becuz its on the skirts of Mt Faber. U can take a stroll, try the cable cars, enjoy good view up the hill, when u eventually manage to stroll uphill that is.

Hope this helps.

Would City Bayview be above your budget? http://www.bayviewhotels.com/singapore

How about Perak Hotel? http://www.peraklodge.net

Hi, I'm booked for the first week of Sept on SEA hotel, it cost SING$ 100 per night for a double ensuite room.

When in sept are you coming to Singapore? If it's late september, I would advise to get what you can as soon as possible, cause it's the F1 season (26-28 of sept if I'm not mistaken).

Wow, glad I read this part of the forum. Was planning to book the New 7th Storey for Decemeber. Looks like it will have to be the IYMCA now instead as its being demolished!

This site is great - you get to know so many things.
