The last time I checked on Singapore hotel prices was probably 1.5 to 2 years ago, and Goodness me what has happened to the good 3* hotels ? They are now at no less than USD 150 like the Bayview, Golden Landmark. I am looking for hotel rooms for my brother's family on the budget of USD70-USD90 per night, and we get the Hotel 81, hotel Frgrance and what are these hotels ?

I thought Hong Kong hotels are expensive but Singapore hotels are now worse. In some cases the money you pay for a 3* hotel room in HK can only get you a 1* room in Singapore!

For the last 2 years, the growth in visitors to Singapore has outpaced the new supply of hotel rooms. Therefore, this has caused the price of hotel rooms to increase significantly.

Hotel81 and Fragrance hotels are being infamous for the wrong reason. Most of their hotels are located the red-light district of Geylang. Therefore, most of these are used by locals for a "quicky". However, that being said, for budget wise, Hotel81 Bugis would be the best of the lot. This hotel is in a good location in the city, not in a seedy area.

You may also like to try Hangout @ Mt. Emily ( http://www.hangouthotels.com ) or Perak Hotel ( http://www.peraklodge.net ). Perak Hotel is quite a decent comfortable hotel with good comments.

In January we stayed at the South East Asia Hotel, which was conveniently located and even close enough that we could walk to a lot of the places we wanted to visit. It wasn't grand but it was clean and the beds were comfortable enough. Rates work out at about USD 72 for a triple.
