A frequently asked question about Hong Kong is the dining options. I have included some information here for general reference.

1) Fine Dining- Most fine dining in Hong Kong can be found in 4 star to 5 star hotels such as Peninsula, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Island Shangri-la, Langham Place, Langham Hotel, Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel, Sheraton, Intercontinental, New World Renaissance Hotel (Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai).

( There are many places for fine dining in Tsim Sha Tsui, Central (soho), Causeway Bay as well.)

2) Family Dining- For those with young children. We have American style restaurants like Dan Ryan's, Ruby Tuesday, Hard Rock Cafe. McDonalds, KFC, Yoshinoya are everywhere as well. There are also many good food courts around.

3) Cheap eats- Mongkok area, around Ladie's market. Lots of street eateries, but as a tourist, I would be very careful in experimenting these foods, try if you have a good travelling/tourist stomach.

4) Dim Sum is a must try in Hong Kong. There are many restaurnants to try authentic dim sum. Prices ranges from $ 8.00 a dish to $ 50 a dish depending on what type of restaurant, and what time of day you dine.

5) Seafood- Lei Yu Mun, and Sai Kung are two popular areas for fresh seafood. Many restaurants of course also serve delicious seafood as well.

The prices for food/dining ranges widely in Hong Kong, it all depends what you want to eat, where you want to eat, and what time of day you want to eat. Many restaurants offer "tea time" specials afer 2:00pm, so many locals wait until this time to eat their lunch !

If you have further questions, please post in the Hong Kong Forum.

The quality of Maxim's varies according to each location. Some of them can be downright poor in my opinion.

Jade Garden is also operated by Maxim's and have several branches in Causeway Bay. The closest one to Park Lane is at Causeway Bay Plaza II at Percival Street and Lockhart Road. Alternatively, try Tao Heung Super 88 (not run by Maxim's) at Windor House (Great George St, just across the street from Park Lane's side entrance) for some budget yet decent dim sum.

Star of Canton at Lee Theatre Plaza near Times Square serves good dim sum but try to go early.

I am happy I read this post. I had already decided that I was not going to do it (hubby is afraid of heights). I remember how all the kid reacted to JUST the ferris wheel at disney land last summer..hahaha! I do not want to go through that again!

Anyways I guess this evens out my pros and cons list. However, I do know that with everything I have planned for our Hong Kong trip in June, I will go home with great memories and will NOT feel like I missed out on the whole Hong Kong experience if I do not ride the NP! Just me two cents.....

You may go to Google maps of Hong Kong and see that Sai Kung is at the eastern edge of the New Territories. You usually reach it via public transport on a bus or green minibus. Exactly how would depend on where you are coming from. You should post this in the regular forum instead of the dining thread.

I am interested to going to Tiffin's Lounge at the Grand Hyatt Hotel located in Wan Chai. I have heard that it is a really good dessert buffet. I am wondering if anybody knows the price for each person? Thanks!

Tiffin dessert buffet now costs $228 per adult. It is now served daily from 8pm to 11:30pm. Reservation is highly recommended.

I haven't gone in years but when I did, I thought it was quite overrated. Local reviews are very mixed.

definitely over-rated.

It USED to be "special" because no one else was doing it in HK. Just Grand Hyatt. Now, everywhere has DESSERT buffets, and much tastier, and better than GH's. However, they ARE the "pioneers" I guess!

When I went, it wasn't a daily affair yet (they now run it everyday due to its popularity). It was more than 5 years ago. I remember back then, the Japanese style cheesecake was very popular. Because of that, they didn't even have a legitimate NY style cheesecake. I wonder how they can say they have a legitimate dessert buffet without having one?

I guess they still fill their tables all the time due to name recognition, and it does have a very nice environment.
