A frequently asked question about Hong Kong is the dining options. I have included some information here for general reference.

1) Fine Dining- Most fine dining in Hong Kong can be found in 4 star to 5 star hotels such as Peninsula, Grand Hyatt Hotel, Island Shangri-la, Langham Place, Langham Hotel, Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel, Sheraton, Intercontinental, New World Renaissance Hotel (Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai).

( There are many places for fine dining in Tsim Sha Tsui, Central (soho), Causeway Bay as well.)

2) Family Dining- For those with young children. We have American style restaurants like Dan Ryan's, Ruby Tuesday, Hard Rock Cafe. McDonalds, KFC, Yoshinoya are everywhere as well. There are also many good food courts around.

3) Cheap eats- Mongkok area, around Ladie's market. Lots of street eateries, but as a tourist, I would be very careful in experimenting these foods, try if you have a good travelling/tourist stomach.

4) Dim Sum is a must try in Hong Kong. There are many restaurnants to try authentic dim sum. Prices ranges from $ 8.00 a dish to $ 50 a dish depending on what type of restaurant, and what time of day you dine.

5) Seafood- Lei Yu Mun, and Sai Kung are two popular areas for fresh seafood. Many restaurants of course also serve delicious seafood as well.

The prices for food/dining ranges widely in Hong Kong, it all depends what you want to eat, where you want to eat, and what time of day you want to eat. Many restaurants offer "tea time" specials afer 2:00pm, so many locals wait until this time to eat their lunch !

If you have further questions, please post in the Hong Kong Forum.

For good Italian food that wouldn't rip a hole in your wallet, try Grappa's at Pacific Place, Admiralty. They serve good pastas and meat dishes. The pizzas are only so-so. The cost is around $200 per head. Note that none of the other Grappa's are nearly as good so do not go to the branch at the airport or Jardine House.

Incontro is small Italian restaurant at Empire Centre. Lunch is around $100. You can have a small buffet there for lunch, and if 5 people come, they only charge the price of 4. Dinner is about $200-250.

Pizza Express (Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, around Star Street, Wan Chai, and Tai Koo Shing) is the same chain as the one in the UK and other places in Europe. The pizzas are really quite good.

International Food Street was the name of the area that specialized in dining. It is at Causeway Bay around the corner of Patterson Street, between Park Lane Hotel and Excelsior Hotel. It no longer carries that name but still has several restaurants there. None of them are particularly outstanding and most are chains of one group or another.

A friend highly recommends Maxim's at City Hall for dim sum. Is it worth a visit?

Yes, but be prepared for long lines.

There are MANY places good for dim sum around HK, but this one seems most popular with tourists.

Do a search in the hk forum, LOTS of threads about it.

Every time we travel, we like to have a 'fabulous view' eating experience, eg. high tea at the Burj in Dubai and the Equinox in Singapore, so on our first visit to Hong Kong we would like to do something similar, either dim sum or high tea, with the best harbour views! Any suggestions?

If you are looking for really nice chinese food at a very reasonable price, there are chinese cafes across the road from the Marco Polo Hotel along that strip. The fried rice is the best in Hong Kong.

Fast service and most speak english.

There are about 4 little places in a row, they are all good.

Green, you should try their white chicken with steamed rice. I pour the ginger sauce on the rice
