Booking activities in advance or hotel concierge? |
They might line you up with a ticket broker who might have your activites but I seriously doubt a hotel would have them paid for ahead of time just waiting for someone who wants them. If you are planning on doing a popular activity, it could very well alredy be sold out (Such as the Old Lahaina Luau which can sell out months ahead of time). I usually tell people that if it is a must do activity then book it as far ahead as possible, why take a chance it will be sold out the entire time you are there?
thanks for the info. it's our first time going to Maui so we were not sure. We will be booking our Luau today then - they still have seats according to their website. thanks again!

Where are you staying? I'm sure that the concierges in some of the big hotels have a few cards up their sleeves. I would contact our concierge right away. I sure would not wait until I arrived, given that you are traveling during HIGH season.
We will be staying at the Kapalua Resort. Our travel agent said they would be able to book activities when we get there but it seems too good to be true.
you can generally get a discount by booking in advance and on line
IF there is something you REALLY want to or have to do, book it in advance. Then you have the peace of mind that it is already waiting for you. I like to book as much as possible in advance so when I get to my destination I have very little to do but relax. I don't want to spend my precious vacation time sitting talking to hotel concierge when I can be on the beach! Have fun in Maui!
thanks! we didn't want to book too many things. we would rather just "go with the flow".

with the exception of the Four Seasona and Fairmont almost every " Hotel Concierige" is really a time share sales guy... who is more interested in getting you into a "sucker tour" than a good price. Yes they have special prices...but only if you go to the boiler room for 1/2 a day. Everysingle activity booths and concierige in Kona from Sheraton to King Kam has not one but 2 salesmen.. all time share anf they each get $50 to $200 comission for sending in new meat . Caution...if you dont keep the apointment, dont qualify, dont complete the full presentation then you will get back- billed for the full retail price of any activity you took.... they already have your cc# and you will have signed a little contract that you didnt notice.... "Fish on" Go on line.... do a booking and ask for the time share price... because the activites hace to pay 20 to 30% comission to the timeshare folks.....

wow! thanks for the info hawaiidan.

Hawaiidan, I STRONGLY disagree. While some hotels do have timeshare desks, they ALSO have concierge services. This has been my experience in every hotel I have stayed with in Hawaii. I agree that the timeshare staff can suck you into "deals," and that hotel guests should be wary. Just the same, the actual concierge staff always seems to have their hands full with car rentals, show tickets, excursions and a number of other guests services. Please don't confuse the two. The are two different staff with two different functions and motivations. Some hotels have a separate excursions desk and concierge desk. It depends on the hotel chain, their operating procedures and their workload.
